This is part of my Splatoon headcanon that Callie when meeting 8 was just very friendly to her (I headcanon 8 being female) and Marie was just distrustful even though her grandfather tried easing her worries and saying "I spent enough time with agent 8 to trust her, so you should to'" but Marie didn't until something major happened like 8 pushing her out of the way of a falling pillar and risked getting hurt herself. Marie saw that as 8 earning her trust.

Then I had to sneak my way past guards while not having a weapon, protect an orb from billion attacks at once, fight you since you got your a** mind controlled, get false hope that it was over, see a big a** statue come out of the sea, be told by a telephone that Inklings and Octolings should git gud, be threatened by that telephone that he would destroy me and everyone, watch a gremlin and a tall chick argue over what to do, be told by the tall chick that I should run around the statue and shoot bombs under three minutes while the tall chick and the gremlin sing a way to happy song for the end of the world, paint the statue pink, get my eardrums blown out by the gremlin and then beat you again except you were in my head and 100x harder than you are now, seriously git gud m8, just to meet the Squid Sisters. I see you clearly went through more to meet them.
