I don't know if contracts were singed yet but it should be shown in the US, but I am not sure how wide this release can be. Seeing how Volkodav (Wolfhound) earned nearly $22 mln in the US in 2006, I hope Viking will have fair release in the States, not just in selected few theaters.

Looks like the writers did their homework - for the first time in any cinematic work about norsemen. "He's a mongrel. A slave. Not a prince." < stuff like this is very un-PC AND authentic to the sagas. Which is why you don't see it in Hollywood productions, because everything has the fit the narrative of "good guys = multicultural, bad guys = racist" "I'll bring back his luck and his strenght" < again, aspects of norse paganism like this is NEVER caught by writers - until now. In norse culture, you could borrow your luck to others, and you could inherit the luck of ancestors (and thus the tradition of naming descendants after the deceased). Excited to see this!

In those days Russians, Swedes and Finns had very close ties and mixed both ethnically and culturally, so when his older brother Yaropolk tried to kill him, Vladimir recruited a band of Varyags (Vikings) to help him retake his realm of Novgorod. In process he set the foundations for all modern Rus' nations - orthodox christianity upon slavic roots. The movie tries to tell his story.

I enjoyed the movie! Brutal, dirty, good story, acting, excellent fighting scenes, costumes and setting. The only thing I hated is obvious Christian propaganda and the depiction of Slavic human sacrifice. As I know they didn't sacrifice people or animals to gods, only food and plant offerings. But overall, I really watched the movie with full joy!

@@bogdanvojnovic989 i just watched the movie and I don't think I have ever seen such a realistic portrayal of the mentalieties of the different cultures involved , pagan slavic who were in many ways quite similar to the Scandinavian culture at that time in contrast to that how different the mentality of the christians was . Probably the most accurate movie of that time period, vikings is a high school production in comparison to this . Imagine a Vikings show like this instead of the stupid melodrama, I'll definitely watch more Russian movies now

There is few historical mistakes in the trailer like: sexagon laminar armors on averange soldiers during late 10th century (only a duke or prince could allow such luxury) and some other minor stuff.. But overall trailer looks very promising, i liked first trailer more trough. I hope this movie will focus on historical aspect over love story.

Watched this movie today. I 'm really impressed, it's one of the most interesting films I've ever seen
