Cycling to the Old Vicarage Tearooms in Tosside - I'm a cyclist and I live in the Pennines

  • Tosside is located on the border between Lancashire and North Yorkshire and is nestled within the hills that form the Bowland fells. It is a naturally peaceful and scenic place to ride your bike and I guarantee that if you cycle through these parts, you will not be disappointed as it is in an area of outstanding natural beauty. On today's ride I set off from the village of Whalley which lies on the banks of the river Calder and is the gateway to many places in the North West of England. It's just a short ride with a few climbs and some undulations.
My videos offer you maps, a narration of the ride and a unique descriptive element of the day, I hope to inspire others such as you right now reading this, to get out there and go for a ride.

Was hoping to go to Lake District in Early March, social services stopped my request, been having lots of care problems with my wife, but that’s life, now officially retired. Planning sailing trip in May for my 1 weeks respite this year, out of Dartmouth with friends, been feeling very unfit lately, so you cheered me up today, take care mate, cheers Alan.

    New jacket Daz 😂
I have to say Daz, and I think I can probably speak for all of us that love road cycling, this is just what we needed to make us feel that Spring is here and to be able to hear that lovely sound of your tyres on smooth tarmac, avoiding the potholes of course. 🙁
Your film making ability is incredible, the scenery, commentary, ambient music, and of course Mike, make for a very watchable video. Living relatively locally to Whalley I’ve only ever ridden this way once before, but after your vid I’ll be back and back again. No wonder I see so many cyclists around this area. I know I said this before I’m sure, but thank you Daz for putting these rides together for us all to see. They do take a lot of work in editing, filming and producing but they are just the tonic we need I’m sure.👍

Hello lcsdwo1, I totally agree with you about Spring being the tonic that we all need to lift our spirits, it is great to get out there and hear all the birds singing and the lambs bleating.
As for the jacket I have had it while and tend to use around this time of year because it can be a difficult choice getting the layers right this time of year, my old yellow jacket is looking a bit worse for wear nowadays.
Thank you kindly for your kind words once again, they are greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daz.
    Hope your well.
I’ve watched this ride over and over again and vowed that before the years out I’ll do this one as it look amazing.
Came back this afternoon (Tuesday 21st NOV) and what a great ride. The old vicarage tea room was lovely. I was the only one there at about 11:45am and tea, jam and cream and a strawberry, admittedly it was half the size of yours, but came to a grand total of £4.95p.
I sat at the same table you did as this was facing the sun and the views just took my breath away.
Some good quiet roads but I did struggle a bit on a couple of climbs and had to push the bike up🙁mainly the one that you said “was a brute of a climb” and heck it was. I’m running a 11-24 rear cassette on my Revenio which I don’t think is great for the hills in the Ribble valley and I am struggling a bit, not out of breath or anything, just all the energy sapped out of my legs. I’ll probably be wise to alter the cassette so I’ve just got another easier gear to go at. Anyway thank you for the video and even though I’m completely whacked this afternoon I’m glad I did it and got very luck with the weather. I would urge others to try this route and enjoy the old vicarage tea room, well worth a stop.

This is really inspiring stuff and thank you for sharing this for us all on here.
I am genuinely proper chuffed for you. My father had a serious health scare many years ago so I totally appreciate the importance of living life to it's fullest and to set achievable goals on the road to recovery. The moment you mentioned the cafe and sitting outside, I literally took myself back to that place, and it is a great place to gather your thoughts whilst you take in the views and enjoy the ambience of it all.
The Revenio is also a great all round bike which can punch well above it's weight and I'm sure it added to the experience of the day.
Thank you so much for commenting 👏🙂

The Touring GPS will run all day - over 100 miles comfortably on a charge. It has no connectivity, which is fine for my needs. I run the screen at a low setting too and only allow the backlight to stay on for the minimum of 15 seconds after touching it.
It does use a lot more battery life though when in the navigating mode and if you were looking at navigating all day on a big ride with it I would definitely take a power bank just in case.
I like it because it is cheap, it does exactly what it says on the label and if it failed I could replace it without speaking to the bank manager.
I have watched GCN from the beginning and it has some great episodes like you say, I think it is tailored a bit heavy on the professional riders theme with Aerodynamics and wattage topics all too often which us mere mortals may never need to think about. (My Lidl shopping bags cost me 100 watts when they are hanging off my bars whilst doing the weekly shop)
