  • KHANDALA - A place where not just people, but the trains tend to climb the mountains as well.
    Khandala lies in the Western Ghats and the railway tracks passing through here belongs to the Central Railway (CR) Zone of Indian Railways.The trains entering this place from the western direction climb a very steep gradient (with the help of banker engines attached at the rear end). Similar such gradients lie in the entire stretch from Karjat to Lonavala.
    The trains featured in this video are : 22105 Mumbai - Pune Indrayani Express, 12127 Mumbai - Pune Intercity Express, 18520 Mumbai LTT - Vishakhapatnam Express, 11025 Bhusaval - Pune Express and a cement freight.

    I have seen the trains plunging down into first tunnel at a steep gradient at Khandala while going towards Karjat. We can feel the down gradient. The locomotive crew do the brake check at that location and bring the train to full halt. Then we can see brakes released and as train moves ahead without the power locomotive and the brakes are applied to full stop. Then crew give signal by horns as all OK to the control. Then the control tower clears the signal. Same process is repeated at Monkey Hill.

    Nice shooting Ayush, kamal kar diya. My point is that when train enters Khandala Stn., front engine gets very slow and then departs very fast, why ?

    • @AyushKamal
      @AyushKamal  Před 3 lety +1

      I don't know if there's any technical reason for it but I guess it happens because the trains have to climb a steep gradient before entering Khandala and once they reach a flat surface the trains accelerate.

      You must have noticed the trains climbing a very steep gradient, that may not be achieved just by a single loco, that's why banker engines are attached at the rear end to provide support. Such gradients lie in the entire stretch from Karjat to Lonavala.
