  • My dear friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We’d like to start the new year with a brief analysis of the range of the #8 size nibs we offer in our shop and website.
A little focus on the types available, their source, their features and a writing sample demonstration. We hope it will enlighten some notions you already have and help you select the most suitable for you. Please do not hesitate to ask whatever you need and do please let us know if you need any further assistance.
I’d like you to suggest new topics to focus on by texting me on our email or message on instagram. Thank you and enjoy the video which does not dare to be perfect!
It’s just the beginning of a new splendid year of writing passion!

Excellent presentation of a unique class of gold nibs. All the pens shown are, of course, exceptional and very desirable. I only have the MB 149 and Sailor KoP (three, including the same blue ebonite & urushi one).
I must say that the #8 sized 21k gold Sailor KoP nib remains the most sublime and my own favorite nib. I’m not too fond of Jowo nibs, in general. But these large sized gold nibs must be pretty special. And the writing demonstrations strongly suggests that is the case. I wish more Italian pen brands decided to get into making their own nibs in-house like Aurora always does.
I wish Aurora offered a size 8 14k/18k gold nib sometime.
My favorite Italian pen makers are Aurora, Montegrappa and Stipula. Also OMAS in the past. And now Scribo seems special. The nib will always be the heart and soul of any pen.

Thank you for sharing these special nibs and pens. It is difficult to see these in stores or on CZcams, so this is a great service to pen enthusiasts. It is always a pleasure to see you and your videos. Good luck to your lovely store and staff in the new year.

Thanks for this information. Can you describe the difference between the Sailor Pro Gear nib and the nib on their King of Pen?

Best nib among this - Sailor’s King of Pen (negative aspect of this pen is the ink capacity & filling mechanism)
Best piston mechanism - Montegrappa Extra (negative aspect of this pen is the ink capacity and nib colour)
Best pen overall - Montblanc 149 (negative aspect of this pen is the difficulty in getting a well tuned ExtraFine nib and the piston knob)

I do not mind the small capacity of the KoP and also actually prefer using a converter. However, at this price I do think they should make a custom converter as large as is practical across the KoP range. Preferably screw-in. So improvements are possible.

Am I dreaming or did Montegrappa start using laser engraving on their Extra nibs instead of a proper stamp??? That would be an absolutely inexcusable cost saving strategy that would go with the outrageously high price they are asking for repairs.
