Am I dreaming or did Montegrappa start using laser engraving on their Extra nibs instead of a proper stamp??? That would be an absolutely inexcusable cost saving strategy that would go with the outrageously high price they are asking for repairs.

Sapreste dirmi il costo di produzione di una Montblanc 149? Analogamente, quali sono i riferimenti numerici, i riscontri comparativi condotti con metodo scientifico, et similia, tali da giustificare l’esorbitante prezzo delle MB? Sapete meglio del sottoscritto che una Sailor od una Pilot pari livello hanno qualità ben superiore con prezzi inferiori. Purtroppo le MB godono di buona stampa, van certamente di moda e per le loro quotazioni esagerate vale quanto in atto, da decenni, per gli orologi “prodotti” da Rolex. Detto questo, seguirò certamente i vostri prossimi video.

Best nib among this - Sailor’s King of Pen (negative aspect of this pen is the ink capacity & filling mechanism) Best piston mechanism - Montegrappa Extra (negative aspect of this pen is the ink capacity and nib colour) Best pen overall - Montblanc 149 (negative aspect of this pen is the difficulty in getting a well tuned ExtraFine nib and the piston knob)

Excellent presentation of a unique class of gold nibs. All the pens shown are, of course, exceptional and very desirable. I only have the MB 149 and Sailor KoP (three, including the same blue ebonite & urushi one). I must say that the #8 sized 21k gold Sailor KoP nib remains the most sublime and my own favorite nib. I’m not too fond of Jowo nibs, in general. But these large sized gold nibs must be pretty special. And the writing demonstrations strongly suggests that is the case. I wish more Italian pen brands decided to get into making their own nibs in-house like Aurora always does. I wish Aurora offered a size 8 14k/18k gold nib sometime. My favorite Italian pen makers are Aurora, Montegrappa and Stipula. Also OMAS in the past. And now Scribo seems special. The nib will always be the heart and soul of any pen.

Thanks a lot for this extremely well-done and helpful review of some of Stipula’s different in-house nibs and feeds. Stipula pens are very close to my heart. I love the pens dearly. I have seven of them, including the same gorgeous green celluloid one you showed here. I never knew of the ABS feeds. So this was really interesting to see. All my Stipulas have ebonite feeds. And most come with the superb in-house Stiflex gold nibs. I really think I must try an EF sometime. And I’ve always greatly preferred Bock over Jowo. So the special Bock nib on a Stipula would be very fun to own and use.

I absolutely love Aurora. Of my current collection of 65 pens, 28 are Aurora (including seven 88s). The other Italian brands I love most are Montegrappa and Stipula. ❤️ Aurora’s and Sailor’s gold nibs are my most loved nibs today. I actually have all of Aurora’s wonderful nibs, except EF. The ones I love most are M, Italic, Flex, Stub and Goccia. Aurora’s italic nib is the very best factory italic nib I’ve ever used. It’s really unique and delightful to write with. Many thanks for your excellent presentation of these terrific nibs.

The best way to use a fude nib for western calligraphy is to break down each letter (cursive, printing, whatever) into individual strokes and change the nib angle for each stroke and during a stroke. You can decide to go "artistic" or research the origin of each Western letters back to the Greek alphabet and to the Phoenician and Egyptian abjads, in order to trace each sign with a different and reasoned width.

Interesting to see a series on in-house nibs. I said a year or two ago in a comment on Samuel Naldi's youtube channel that I think one day in house nibs will be like in house watch movements, where above a certain price people won't want to buy a pen if it does not have an in house nib. Many pen buyers no longer understand the jewelry aspect of pens, so the writing has become by far the main focus, and even if the writing isn't "better" it is important that it be characteristic of the brand.
