    This video was RIGHT ON TIME. I’ve been in the Air Force 19 years 4 months and have said for a long time imma do at least 24 years…. But I been waking up recently feeling it’s time to go. I’ve lost the happiness in my heart for what I’ve done so long and with a nervousness I looked in the mirror and faced the fact it’s time to hang up the uniform with all the uncertainties. Your video has encouraged me and enhanced my faith that it will be alright. This wk I’m going to start taking the steps for what I need to do to get ready to retire… skill bridge and all that… thank you I appreciate you taking the time to share

      I’m so glad this video helped you. Change can be so scary. It was for me and I was only in for four years so I can imagine your anxiousness about getting out. However, to be in for as long as you have you seem to be a certain caliber person. Hardworking and diligent along with a plethora of skill sets you’ve gain form the military. Therefore, it is inevitable that you will be successful out of the military.

    OMG You hit so many emotional trigger points within me in this post. I really can relate to every single talking point you discussed, especially at the end when you spoke about "success" and it essentially being relative. I have struggled so much internally with the idea of success, my career aspirations, burden of financial debt, etc. After going through school and serving in the Air Force over 9 years, I am finally attempting to take steps towards my own version of success - Sustainable happiness is tranquility, peace, and comfort in this world filled with social abnormalities, biases, and economic inequality. Thank you so much for affirming my outlook on this subject and being transparent with your journey. Peace and prosperity, love!

Thinking of completely switching my career to a more technical/computer science/analyst/admin centered job. My EAOS is a year and a half of from now. On top of that, I’m currently 1-2 years away from my math degree and really looking for a job that will give me the time to start and finish my masters after regular working hours.

    6 figures is decent money in DC if you live on the Maryland side. I’m so happy for you! You have me motivated to talk to the chief/commander for SkillBridge. You are motivating! Would your company happen to have corporate Jets and looking for a technician?

    Great video! I have a question regarding when when I should start skillbridge. If hard separation date with the navy is in July, do I base the 180 days off of that date or do I base it off of my 30 days terminal date in June? Maybe you had experience with this?

    • @kjk916
      @kjk916 Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you ! Every command is different however my command would not allow me to take both Skillbridge and terminal. My contract was up in May but my Skillbridge ended in April . Instead of going back to work for a month I took regular leave. Signed on with the company took about a two week break and went straight to work. This way I got paid both by the military and the company . I would suggest you base it off of your terminal leave. Have a bit overlap for multiple income but I would not suggest taking a full 30 days after the internship before you try to get a permanent job with them . Does that make sense ?

    • @legallyblack9418
      @legallyblack9418  Před 4 lety +4

      TAXES! When finding a company have an idea about the salary they will offer you when the internship is finished. When figuring out your salary account for taxes that will be taken out of your pay in the civilian world. For me as a second class no dependents a six figure salary was only about a $1,000 increase on my check.
      Be mindful of the company you choose and make sure you are going gain real knowledge that will help you maintain you way of living when you get out.

      That’s a good question. The program has specific time restraints. If you are already separated I don’t think you can join. As a reservist you get paid for the time you have duty that month. If you don’t go to duty because of the program I’d assume they would not still pay you. However I would definitely talk to your chain of command at the end of the day they have to sign off on it.
