The phone call with Austin and his dad to sounded like Austin was genuinely scared. The narrator said he sounded flat and monotone and perhaps there was some of that but he had to be absolutely exhausted due to his behavior and undiagnosed mental status. It’s clear he didn’t feel himself and didn’t know why. Questioning yourself that way plus the manic feelings of grandeur is terribly exhausting. I felt really sad listening to that phone call. He sounded like a child wanting to be reassured and comforted by his dad 🥺
Thats exactly what i heard!!! A scared young man with extreme mental health problems!!! Im sure the steroids exacerbated his mental health!
I am heart broken for the murdered couple’s family that is for sure!! I am also so extremely sad for Austin and his family. It is clear this is a mental psychotic break from reality. His parents tried to help. Just an awful tragedy. 💔

My father had a psychotic break and it is the worst thing I've ever seen. One day he was a strong, hardworking, great father and husband and the next he said he had a worm in his brain, didn't know who we were, tried choking my brother, broke every single thing in our house, and jumped off of an electrical tower. I have lived through a horror movie and I feel for all of these people and hope they can find peace in their lives

Idk how you could think Austin wasn’t insane the night of the attack. He seemed completely delusional - glad he’s in a secure hospital now honestly. Prison wouldn’t do anything for him.

@@codymazza7303yeah it really sucks. It’s hard to feel bad or good about it because people died you know. But from what it seems, he has a terrible case of schizophrenia. I know a couple of people with a mild case of it and all they experience are faint whispers and intense chatter in there head that normally isn’t a bad thing but for them it feels completely involuntary. So for Austin I can’t help but feel sorry for everyone involved the world is a sad place sometimes

Update to the Austin case for those interested: Austin was found not guilty by reason of mental insanity in November 2022 after a judge accepted his plea and he is set to be placed in a secure mental health facility.

He better be. My mom was working at a psychiatrist office and I was doing carpentry work there and known this guy for 20 years his son tried to cut his arm off and beat his father with it. He's currently in the hospital thank God because he was going to kill his father in my mom about 2 weeks ago. That is so scary I love my mom

Case #1. We've lived with the onset of schizophrenia with our son. It was very scary for us to observe, and experience, how he changed. Fortunately he was evaluated in a psychiatric hospital over a period of three months and has been on antipsychotics for three years. His behaviour gets weird at times, but nothing remotely close to what it was. All we can do is support him and ensure he stays medicated to protect society and himself.

@@tonyotto5988 I could never do that to him, even if I could afford it. He's heavily medicated and hasn't had any episodes since going on the meds. And he actually never leaves home, by choice. Apparently the biggest problem comes in if they start feeling better because of the meds, go off the meds, become psychotic, go on the meds, go off etc and every time they go off they are more psychotic than before. Also drinking and drugs are a total no no. We're over 65 so if anything happens to us he may need to be institutionalised. Whole thing makes me so sad.
@@marionfriedenthal7352 it's true it is sad and eventually if something happens you and your husband he would have to be institutionalized before something bad happens to somebody else or himself. Not saying he's a bad guy because you could be the coolest guy in the world it's a tragic situation
make sure he takes his meds, stays away from horror movies, violence, bad crowds and other anxiety inducing things.
depression is also a gateway to manic episodes. Stay strong, guardians of mentally ill patients never get commended, but know that there are people out there who has a strong idea of what you're going through, and those people commend you for your bravery and perseverance. God bless your family and make it easier for you

He sounds like my first love in that phone call. He had schizophrenia and killed himself a couple years ago. I loved him so much and still do and I wish he was still here. I know that Austin was probably so scared and heartbroken by what he’d done.
Yes, it is heartbreaking. I have 2 wayward children. I want nothing more than to wrap them in my arms to keep them safe from themselves until the danger passes, but they won't.

I’ve heard more about Austin’s case:
He said he heard voices and saw this dark shadow and he followed it to that garage.
He only attacked Michelle because the voices told him she was a witch and he had to kill her.
The phone call between him and his father was so heart breaking- he sounded afraid and like he just wanted to be with his family again.
His father is so amazing for still loving and reassuring his son that he’ll be ok and telling him that he loves him.
Although the narrator said that Austin sounds monotone and flat, I personally thought he sounded scared and like he was about to cry.
Hes just a boy who need serious help, I feel quite sorry for him because of the voices and his mental illness but
His actions and cannibalism is not excused and he should be charged for it
I know we are only getting a brief overview of this story but I don't have confidence in anyone medical professional that says Austin wasn't legally insane.

There are far too many people in prison that have mental health issues. But where else are they suppose to be? There are not enough mental hospitals.
I bet you could find more ‘medical professionals’ that would decide that the kid was faking it than ones that would side with him. Just perspective. Right or wrong yes or no, nobody knows for sure.
The dad is amazing. I’ve never seen such unconditional love. The dad knows terrible things happened but didn’t judge his mental health. Only reassured him that he would get him help and suggesting he try to get a Bible. Rather than defending his actions, he said stay strong. We will get you help. I can’t imagine how hard it was but that’s true unconditionally love

It's rare that I feel bad for both sides of a murder case, but the first story is upsetting to say the least. It's not often that i believe a murderer has diminished responsibility for their crimes based on mental instability, but its pretty obvious to me that Austin was not in control at all. I feel for both sides.
Sad thing is that he's in Florida where they don't care if you are seriously mentally ill or not most of the time, they just want you either locked up or dead.

It's the first time, I'm genuinely sympathetic to someone who murdered two people. You could tell, he just needed psychiatric help. I feel for his victims too. And Austin too. It's just a heartbreaking situation. The call broke my heart.
Dont be scared. You can get help! I want to help you. Im just far away and maybe not in a mental health to do anything good. I just have to wait until the sun comes up and I can eat my breakfast. Its so good to have rice and chicken in the fridge. Remember to eat and drink water and wine with jesus and you will be okay.

Austin’s case is particularly tragic to me coming from the area, and knowing many people who knew him personally. I’ve worked in the psych field and have seen people’s hard won lives turned upside down by these issues. The fact that he mentioned shrooms hit me like a ton of bricks. Do NOT touch psychedelics if you have any family or personal history of serious mental illness. You can throw yourself into a situation it can be difficult if not impossible to climb out of.
Or concussions, people don't do psychedelics if you play sports that you end up with a lot of concussions. Local story for me where a boy stabbed his father to death and almost his step-mom because he had a history of concussions and did shrooms. He thought they were devils and that god had sent him as some day of reckoning. Cops who arrested him claim he had abnormal strength, almost "super-strength" as they put it. Search Thomas Chan stabs family.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. Young people fail to realize how serious it can be taking shrooms and having an undiagnosed mental illness. It can also happen with pcp.

I've seen a close friend of mine have a psychotic episode on mushrooms.
This was during a house party with around 30 people, most of them on mushrooms themselves inc me.
We initially separated him, put him into a dark room at the back of the house with dome dim lights, got all of the pillows, covers and blankets we could find to pad the room, and removed everything sharp because he was trashing around a bit.
This worked fine for a while, he was just lying in there, speaking nonsense, giggling, sometimes screaming obscenities.
But then people stumbled in on the room, and within a few minutes there were a dozen or so ppl on there...
We were trying go get then out, but our friend was getting more agitated, and even tried to bite a girl's face, so we had to restrain him....
This guy is 6'2, does ufc and may thai. I was holding his left leg only, for like an hour before we decided we needed to call 000 (Australia).
By the time the cops got there he was very violent, trying to punch, bite, scratch anyone. He fought the police and tried to bite them too.
Once they restrained him on a stretcher he calmed down.
We were really worried about him, but the next day he showed up at our place. He said he didn't remember anything at all, except trying to bite a police officer, which was when he sort of came to the realisation of what he was doing.
He woke up in hospital, restrained, with a nappy on.
He didn't have a history of mental illness. He and us did mushrooms together for many years, dozens of times, and one time it just happened.
This isn't to scare anyone, just a personal experience. This didn't put me off from psychedelics myself lol. Just give them the respect, and I wouldn't do it more than twice a year.
Yea those are definitely dangerous. Although im not an expert on shrooms and dont how how they affect the body or long long the hallucinations can last (eg. A week or a year), im still stunned how the toxicology report states he was basically sober at the time of the attack with no drugs or hallucinagenics noted before he attacked. But again, im not sure if the hallucinagenics couod have affected his state of mind permanently.
The saddest thing about most all cases like Austins- if you’ve ever traveled that road with a child suffering from mental illness- there’s no help. Society literally pushes them to extremes before they will listen. We see it over and over- the videos, diaries- mentally ill minds begging for help and nobody listens. Then they get sent to prison still not medicated properly. Imagine- your mind haunting you every min of every day and having just enough sanity to know something is wrong. It’s awful. The victims never had to die if someone- anyone had helped Austin before it came to that.
It's always "they have to be 18 to even be evaluated for things" and by the time they are 18 its way too late! It's sad. This shit is sad.

@Mmannk they can show signs as early as 6 or 7 but can't be tested but by the time they are 13 or 14 they are pretty much never going to change, only get worse, but can't be tested until 18 where it's way too late to start treatment.

I feel like this is more nurture than nature. Getting abused by your stepfather throughout your childhood, telling multiple adults including your mother and multiple counsellors, and them not doing fucking anything about it, would really fuck someone up for life. It isn't an excuse for her actions, but society definitely failed this woman from the start.
My bf stepbrother has schizophrenia, he was diagnosed last fall after his dad witness his psychosis and he got help really quickly. It was so hard to listen to the phone call because I feel like that could have happened to my stepbrother if his parents had hesitated getting him hospitalized in a mental health facility. He's now medicated and always at his mom's of dad's, went back to school and even got a part-time job. He also interacts better with us compared to before.
I'm happy for your family. May I ask, how did he get the help he needed? Did he request it or did the family members call to request help?
@@prettybrowneyez3338 his dad took him to the psychiatric hospital and he was hospitalized after a quick diagnosis. They needed more time to assert it was really schizophrenia and give him proper help. He stayed there for a few weeks and his parents would visit every day. He was discharge with medications and they made sure he would be taken care of.

I have a friend who has paranoid schizophrenia but who is the least violent person I have ever met. It first manifested at a house party. He believed that someone started a rumour that he had sexually assaulted a cat and that everyone conversation he could see people having (not close enough to actually hear) was about him being a zoophile. The assault never happened and no one was even showing him attention, but to him, everyone was looking at him and talking about him. This escalated to people "believing" he was a rapist and paedophile. He can hear the conversations of people walking past his home saying "that's where the nonce lives". I can't even imagine how awful that must be to live like that. Although when he is not delusional, he knows it isn't real and is aware of his psychosis, but when he is- it is all very real. He is such a great guy and I wish he could see that.
I have suffered with delusions and believe me it is SO SO real.
Unless you've experienced it you'll never understand how logical and rational you believe you're behaving 😩
Susan Smith’s story is eerily similar to that of Diane Downs who shot her three children while “out for a drive” one night in 1983. She also claimed that they were carjacked by a strange man. In the interviews, you could tell she was just overjoyed to be the center of attention. It was also eventually discovered that Diane had been obsessed with a married man who claimed he didn’t want children. The similarities between the two cases makes me think this happens a lot more than we think!! Just crazy

I had to wrack my brain for a minute because Susan's case is such a carbon copy of Diane's and I wasn't sure if my memory of Diane's story had somehow gotten completely scrambled. Piece of garbage or not, though, at least Susan had enough of a gnawing conscience to finally crack and admit what happened, versus Diane who, as far as I know, is continuing to Rubik's cube her story about the "frazzled man" to any who'll listen.
The phone call between Austin and his dad is actually heart breaking. There was absolutely something wrong with him mentally. I cannot imagine waking up from insanity, coming back to clarity, and finding out you killed two people. Obviously my heart absolutely breaks just as hard for the victims. If only the people around Austin where more versed on the signs to look for and got him help sooner. This all could have been avoided. Painful all around.

I’ve been watching these type of documentaries and I always know which call / voice is fake or genuine . Austin tone sounded like he’s sad and scared not flat. I’m shocked how the narrator said otherwise

Narrator said flat/monotone AT TIMES. People have made comments that they disagree with that as if he made it out that was the whole conversation tone but that's not what the narrator actually said. 'At times' and he's right, he did sound that way at times. He also sounded genuinely scared and everything else that's been mentioned.

The last story about Susan Smith is unbelievably horrible. I could not sleep after watching this. I had to think about the horrors that the small boys had to suffer before their death. This crime is so evil it should be only punishable by the capital punishment. No mercy for that evil unhuman being.
I agree, this case was an out and out premeditated murder. By a woman who cared only for her self and her selfish desires. She does not have the right to be called Mom. I don’t buy the academic theories put forward by psychologists that her behavior has anything to do with her own childhood experiences. I would venture that she can remember how bad her experiences made her feel, the sadness, the pain, the feelings of I just don’t matter, feeling totally unloved including by her own mother. No one would visit that pain on their own children. Yes, I speak from experience but I would walk through fire to protect my children before anyone would harm a single hair on their precious heads. Keep the woman that bore them in jail forever. Rest in peace little Angels.

I will never forget Tim Bosma's wife saying: "It was just a TRUCK!!!" The raw specter of emotions in her voice made me sob. My God. I still get chills and tears in my eyes remembering that. The unbearable pain suffered by an entire family, just because a psychopath felt like committing a thrill kill for the fun and excitement of it. Millard didn't need the truck or the money. He would never have stopped if he hadn't been caught.
They could have caught him before that man was murdered. Due to sh*tty detective work it didn't happen. Dellens gf missing then a few months later his dad "kiills" himself...I would have at least questioned it.

Have you learned anything in life? The fact his wife was more concerned with losing the truck shows how little common sense they both had. Even doing simple Craigslist deals I always have my concealed on me. Red flags are waving and they were looking the other way. Could’ve been completely avoided had they relied on their instincts not financial worries.
I live in Ancaster, and I remember seeing her on the news, crying and begging for his return. I have always been scared of selling or buying anything online after this incident.
The hardest part of hallucinations isn't being able to discern reality from what isn't real. It's being too tired having to remind yourself that something isn't real. You can usually tell by the body language of others or certain features of what you see that it can be dismissed. But having to do that all the time is what leads to breakdowns. Most learn coping mechanisms to vent or process the stress, but it's so sad and even scary when you see people fail to properly handle those things and destroy people's lives.

I know what you mean about things that you'd swear are real, but they're not. I went through a time when my body had adapted to my dose of medication. Thankfully with help and my dosage upped I'm doing much better. And I'm more aware of the symptoms when I need my dosage upped again.
@@victoriawilliams2786 I had to make serious sacrifices going off medication, but I'm glad you're in a stable place while taking it. Try counseling and any other alternative so you don't have to keep dealing with those awful side effects. Good relationships go alot farther than you'd realize dealing with these things.

Wow what an amazing dad Wade is. I remember being locking up when I turned 18 and I wish a had a dad like that, one I could talk to and communicate with. Unfortunately I did not and I was in and outta of prison until I turned 28 and I haven't been back since. Had a lot to do with having an abisive dad instead of a loving and caring one. My prayers are with you Austin and Wade your an amazing father!!!

My stepson has schizophrenia/Schizoaffective disorder. It’s so sad. His started mildly manifesting at 20, but he was diagnosed with severe disorder at 22. Thankfully he’s never hurt anyone, but he was really bad. Thankfully, he’s in a housing facility right now and he’s doing great. He’s been in there over a year. He’s fairly normal now. He can carry conversations, whereas before he would talk complete and utter nonsense. Such a sad disorder. It’s heartbreaking.

This story is tragic. I lost my son who developed schizo affective disorder late in life, last year. He didn’t threaten anyone but his delusions and paranoia about them were scary, shocking and well, devastating. I would worry for him and others.

All The Crazy Things He Was Doing Including Serious Criminal Acts Right There In The Neighborhood And Warned Them That I Was Sure
Someone Was Going To Get
Killed. I Figured It Would More Than Likely Be Him Since He
Seemed To Choose To Be Homeless And Not Work A Steady Job. The Girl Had

Hospital Happy On A Friday, And They We’re Both Dead Sunday Morning By 8AM.
There Was Violence Involved
By Both Parties. I Had To Put Myself In Therapy 2 Years Before This Happened, And My Therapist And I Both Knew That His Behavior Had Already Turned Criminal And It Was Just A Matter Of A Shorter & Shorter Period Of Time Before He Would Get Himself Killed Or Kill Another Person. Of Coarse, It Killed My Soul To Get The News.
However, Living With The Anxiety And Anticipation Of Knowing It Was Going To Happen Sooner & Sooner And There Wasn’t Anything More I Could Do To Prevent It From Happening Was Like A Slow Death For Me. I Developed Graves Disease From All Of The Stress I Was Going Through And Even Had To Have Surgery For What It Was Doing To My Body.
I’ve Educated Myself In Every Way Possible About This Mental Illness. It CAN Show
Up Seemingly Out Of Nowhere And Progress Very Rapidly. Accepting That This Mental Illness Is Just Part Of The Human Condition Is A Whole Lot Better Than Not Even Knowing He HAD Schizophrenia And Being So Afraid Of Him I Wouldn’t Let Him In My House The Last Time He Came By At 4AM.
When He Called Me The Last Time From Yet Another Mental Hospital I Told Him If I Were Him I Would Work Diligently With My Doctors And The Medications They We’re Prescribing Until I Got It Figured Out And Could Start To Functioning Better For A Better Life That Would Work For Him. I Also Told Him That If He DIDN’T Do It, Something
Was Going To Blow Up In His Face, And “That He Would Never See It Coming”. He Hung Up On Me, As Usual.
THE END Came Five Days Later For Two Young Adults.

As someone with bipolar schizophrenia, hearing that phone call between Austin and his dad just broke me a little bit. I remember having similar conversations with my mom when I was in the psych ward. It’s a terrifying experience, losing bits of yourself until you can’t recognize yourself anymore. I’m so grateful that I got the help I needed early and quick. Poor Austin.

Oh man the phone call with Austin & his father, that’s genuinely heartbreaking. It’s obvious something happened mentally, that he wasn’t in control of himself.
I know 2 people died, horrifically, but I hope Austin & his family don’t just become more damage, sometimes you have to see past the brutality & understand there’s more to it & not just condemn more lives.
That first case is so sad and frightening at the same time.
I'm currently going through something kind of similar. My upstairs neighbor keeps having hallucinations of a woman inside his house who screams, laughs derisively, bangs on the walls and slams doors and he's latched onto the fact that it's either me, my mom or his upstairs neighbor's wife. I've come home at 1am once to find him sitting on the floor between the two doors of our apartment and a couple of days ago he knocked on our door in the morning to confront me and ask me to please "send the consciousness of the woman inside his house away". He said he would call the police and if nothing came from it he would find the person on the street and beat them.
Needless to say, we're all scared. I recorded most of the conversation and sent it to his family because they haven't been taking it very seriously? They thought homeopathic treatment was going to make him better. It won't. Nevermind that I'm a psychologist and told them as much several times. But apparently that changed once they heard the recording. I guess it really makes a difference, hearing the voice of their own son/brother saying all those clearly delusional things instead of just hearing it from someone else.
Regardless, I am ready to go to the police if they don't tell me he's been institutionalized because I've been threatened twice at this point. Might just link them this video too.
Push until you feel safe. No one took us serious even though our whole family told our neighbors family, therapist and police that there was REAL danger- until she broke into our house in the middle of the night with weapons and tried to kill my mom. We ended up having to move and we lost everything because of it. Keep seeking help and pushing his family, please.

Homeopathic remedies for mental health are always bs. Honestly, please go to the police anyway to make sure they do something and not just move him and lie to keep you happy.
I would seriously consider moving the eff out of there. Unless they have a police officer watching your place or offer some sort of protection I would be so scared. I’m so sorry you are going through this - I hope you find a safe and quick solution to this problem as soon as it is possible. I’m sure the solution is not so cut & dry.
Austin’s parents made relentless attempts to get Austin help. The parents had Austin committed in earlier months. There are stories on the Internet which go into grave details about the help Austin received. A psychiatrist cleared Austin prior to the horrible events. I’m glad the judge requested another evaluation. Austin was able to fool the first 2 psychiatrist. I feel sorry for all parties involved. How do you recover?
It’s not necessarily that he fooled them, but the lack of resources in mental health. Many states, such as Florida, have continuously cut funding to mental health, wearing down the already lacking amount of psychiatrists and MHNPs. They get burnt out and it leads to things being missed. Many work 60+ hours a week. I’m a mental health nurse and it’s unfortunate to see.
@@WowOafus I completely understand what you are referring to. We lack so many resources and this particular family did not reach out for state funding resources. However even though you were paying out of your own pocket and may be paying much more it does not necessarily mean you aren’t getting the appropriate care that is needed. Just like any service she don’t know if it’s a great until after the fact… But yes his family truly did reach out for help he had already been committed once and released if I remember correctly he was on medication whether he took the medication or not that I do not know The parents really did try to help him and they were trying to help him

You can’t expect someone who isn’t of sound mind to be able to understand why they need to pay for mental health treatment. In Minnesota, most of those who are committed are covered by Medicare.
The 2nd case kind of hit home and I just started watching it. My husband went to about 30 min roughly away from our house to sell my phone. He chose a church parking lot because it was well lit and right off of a intersection. The guy came up and another came up behind him with a gun to his head and they robbed him. My husband was also carrying at the time but there was nothing he could do so they robbed him of everything plus some at gunpoint and too this day he still has PTSD from the event but I can’t imagine if anything worse would of happened to my baby because he didint hold his composure.

My brother is schizophrenic. It was horrible trying to get him help. He was violent toward my dad and all they would do was a 72 hour hold. After the hold they would let him go. This happened several times within a year. There were a few times he would sign him self out and we would have to track him down because we had no clue where he was. He was 20 so the hospital was not allowed to tell us anything. It was a scary time for my family and it was hard seeing my brother like that. I don’t think people realize how hard it is to get someone help in that state. Especially an adult. You can’t force someone to stay in treatment, we were told basically until he does something illegal they can’t keep him over the 72 hours involuntary. Luckily after several 72 hour holds my brother finally was well enough to realize he needed help and voluntarily stayed. He is still not the same but much much better.
Austin's struggle, I had gone into psychosis once from stress and insomnia, went crazy, hallucinated, was dangerous to myself and others. He googled about sleep, I have no doubt insomnia had a part in this. I have gone into psychosis by not having enough potassium and magnesium and drinking a lot of alcohol. He rapped about shrooms, recreational use of psychedelics can throw a person into psychosis and psychedelics often aren't tested for or won't show up after a period of time. I'm not schizophrenic, but I have lost my mind from the the things I mentioned above. After a break, being put on medication, voice became monotone and couldn't think quickly, it took months to recover from the episodes every time. Writing this to bring awareness, pay attention to your sleep, get sleep, pay attention to the foods you eat, deficiency affects mental health, careful with substances, they probably seem small but can change your entire life and others lives, and getting a misdiagnosis is also damaging, get the medicine when you know it's what you need, but the issues could be from other things and requires a different medication, treatment or lifestyle change. When you're gone, you're capable of anything like Austin.

You’re describing what usually accompanies the overuse of methamphetamines, be it crystal meth off the streets, or prescription drugs like Adderall. Those symptoms, no sleep, vitamin and nutrient deficiency, do not come on naturally and just ho away with time unless induced by some sort of chemical intake.

@@omarsyed7345 It took it's toll and took months to get my energy back, had brain fog for a while. Had to try to make lifestyle changes, hard to stick with them, but no one's perfect. I also got off medicine for a misdiagnosis (bipolar and it's actually PMDD) taking what is helping me now, so I'm less likely to struggle with insomnia or turn to alcohol to cope and continue to eat healthier the best I can after meeting with a dietitian who helped come up with a plan for PMDD and hypothyroidism (that worsened depression). Getting those in better in control, I have better control over BPD symptoms (would worsen from PMDD). It's been a lot of work. I am doing much better than I have in years, thank you for asking!

I've heard this case covered multiple times and the one thing I seem to always take away from it is that both his parents, particularly his father, completely dropped the ball in realising their son needed urgent psychiatric help. Even the phone call to 911 from his mother she seems way too calm. If my son had come home and started drinking cooking oil I wouldn't just be taking him back to a restaurant, I'd be taking him straight to hospital. A true crime CZcamsr named Joshua Miles did an amazing video on this case and an extensive part of the story was focused on Austin's increasingly bizarre behaviour leading up to the crime. The way this kid began to unravel bit by bit, day by day, was described in chilling detail. It was like a bird's-eye view into the mind of someone who was literally losing his mind. I was stunned that all of his family members were witnesses to this but didn't seem to think anything was really all that wrong! Just baffling.
I've come to realize that some ppl don't think things could or would happen to them. Some ppl don't know of the evil In the world as some don't know the good. This is like a scary movie they probably never imagined could become your reality IDK

You can't admit someone, even your child, to a mental institution against their will unless they are overtly homicidal or suicidal. Doesn't matter how weird someone is acting, unless they are threatening others or themselves you can't commit them against their will. So when you blame the parents for not doing something, what exactly were they supposed to do?
I’ve listened to a few documentaries about Austin, and I have nothing but pity for him, his family, and the innocent victims of his madness. He wasn’t in any more control of his actions than we were.
I am so so incredibly sorry for victims of violence ALWAYS. I am genuinely heartbroken and literally cried for poor, poor Austin tho. He was very obviously criminally insane and he truly does not belong in prison. He is one of very few people who does. The pain, fear, and child like way he was speaking to his dad was heart wrenching. 💔 I truly hope that he can get some much needed help, and somehow create a positive life for himself inside of whatever institution he's going to be spending the rest of his life in.

I'll never understand this. I was severely abused as a kid, and had no childhood to speak of. When i had children, I absolutely delighted in everything about them. They both saved my life and woke me up from a deep depression.
I'd argue that, if you have a soul at all, once you know what being hurt feels like, you want to save every single soul you encounter from feeling anything close to this. Susan is a malignant narcissist and nothing will ever change my mind about that.
After being admitted to a mental hospital on a 72 hour hold, I spent time with a young man there who reminds me a lot of Austin. Schizophrenia is so so scary for the person suffering from it, and I feel awful for him and the couple who had to face the wrath of his episode. He’s absolutely heart broken in the call with his dad. The internal demons he had to fight every day without help. I hope he gets what he needs, and I hope the couples family is doing well after the tragic events. I feel for everyone involved

I had a very good friend who had schizophrenia and was a recovering herion addict. He was a good guy but would hear voices and see people. He would text me and ask if he could call me, he would be thinking someone was trying to get him and barricade himself in his apartment and grab a knife. It was completely different than anything I’ve faced before. Sadly he was in some trouble and the court ordered in patient rehab. So he figured he would party one more time. Sadly he od’d on 9/10/23. His “h” was laced with fentanyl. A girl was arrested for it.

I heard about the first case with Austin and it has always made me sad. A boy who did well and had his life ahead of him in athletics and academics… with the amount of force police had to use to subdue him, I truly think he wasn’t aware of his actions and under psychosis. He sounds so lifeless in the phone call with his dad too, like he doesn’t truly understand what he did and is just empty.. I hope in the future he can get the help he needs and get himself on medication.. I’m not sure why the mother wouldn’t take him to the hospital or something after she found him drinking oil after he’d walked all the way home. Overall, just unfortunate for him and terrible for the lovely couple who lost their lives.

You can't force someone to go to the hospital just because you're their mom. And he was also clearly delusional so who knows what he would have done to her if she tried something. She did the right thing in calling the police.

Psilocybin and alpha-PVP are well known for causing delusions and unnatural strength and for possibly leaving lasting mental impairment effects afterwards and are notoriously hard to detect due to being out of your system in 15 hours or less. The very drugs he rapped about using.

The phone call with Austin , he sounded very drained yes but you could tell he was distressed & most likely scared maybe even remorseful , let’s not forget his organs were just failing not long ago also so I’m sure he was feeling exhausted, hope he gets help & I hope the victims family finds peace.
Austen’s story makes me so sad. He clearly was having a mental health crisis that wasn’t caught soon enough. It’s an absolute tragedy that it resulted in the death of that couple. I really hope Austen gets the help he clearly needs and doesn’t become hopelessly lost in the broken criminal system. I also hope that the couples families finds peace in their devastating loss.
Listening to the phone call between Austin & his Dad has given me a whole new perspective on this case. The fear in Austin's face really shook me. His Dad is a strong brave man.

I find it hard to believe that Austin changed all of a sudden. I think his parents missed crucial signs throughout his life that only compounded over the years and culminated on that horrific day.

If you look deeper into the case his “acting crazy” and his delusions, auditory hallucinations, visual hallucinations, psychosis and other issues weren’t something new at all and had been going on for a year or more in many different ways but the day & into the night of the incident was when it all exploded in their faces and made them realize they should have gotten him help much sooner.
The fact that the prosecution agreed he was legally insane at the time of the incident and didn’t fight it with a trial says a lot about how sick he really was. I’ve seen a lot of trials where people say they were insane. I’ve seen only 1 where I actually believed they were legally insane without a doubt and a couple where I wasn’t 100% sure but it was likely. In all those cases the prosecution took it to trial and forced the defense to prove it. I was shocked when they basically just agreed to let him go to a mental health facility and didn’t fight it in this case.
Unfortunately, these poor strangers & their families and friends are the ones who are paying the largest price for them thinking he would grow out of it or something.

#3 I was in high school when this happened. I remember how so many of us were shocked when we found out that it was the mother that killed her children. It was during a time where that idea was still very new. I just remember seeing adults around me just completely surprised that it was her and she could do what she did. It was definitely a shift I think I saw in investigations of children missing over or harmed by parents who weren't initially suspects at all. But now it's the first go to to eliminate suspects. I did find a quote similar to the one you used, and I saw that he was kicked in the head and had a K9 mangle his arm. He wasn’t severely beaten, and the quote wasn’t spot on with what you said from what I could find.
Austins story was sad. He did a horrible crime. But he knows he messed up, you can tell he deeply regrets it. His father was so sweet. I am glad Austin has his dad. I hope Austin is getting help.
I had to skip the first one, which was a local event, though we have many insane events happening down here, this one really got me. His family should've gotten him help. I fully place the blame on his parents. They knew something was going on and chose to ignore it. If they got him help, maybe Austin would have graduated from college and the other family wouldn't have been shattered. Just seeing the difference in Austin's appearance from his CZcams videos to the day the attacks happened would've been enough to cause me concern if I was related.
His best friend's mother went to his mother saying he was seeing and hearing things, and they did nothing but keep him locked out in the garage at night. When all this info came out his parents should've been arrested, parents can get arrested if their child secretly has a party at their house, but their child goes through this and nothing? The mother got what she wanted, her son locked away where she can now sleep at night with no concerns of him hurting them. You know it was a full-fledged psychotic episode, not being faked, when the cops were tasering him and kicking him in the head to get him off Michelle, and he didn't flinch.
This boy was giving off signs and symptoms of schizophrenia and was the right age for people who have a predisposition to start reacting to their illness.

I still remember Susan's trial and memorials for her babies as a young adult and being sickened. Even before having kids I could never understand how anyone hurts their kids. I still don't understand and now one of my friends is in prison for the death of his son but everything points to the MOTHER. I swear she's Casey Anthony 2.0. I need someone to look into this!!
Where is the case being prosecuted? Do you feel comfortable sharing their names; mother, father, and child? I would love to try to do some research into their case but would need all of that at a minimum.

Hi, schizophrenic here. It's important to remember that it's not just schizophrenia that can cause mental problems. Bipolar disorder, and severe depression also have psychotic components that can cause breaks like that. Drug and steroid use can exacerbate (and even cause it) it as well.
Most of us aren't violent, either. I never had delusions of hurting anyone.

The scariest thing about Austin's case, is that when the officers arrived at the scene. Austin yelled at them to shoot him. Saying "kill me now! Can't you see I'm eating humans"?

Dang, those poor little boys. It drives me nuts that people get so worked over criminals getting shot when so many innocent babies and children are made to suffer so. All alone and trapped in the dark to drown, only knowing that your brother is suffering the same fate and you are just helpless. I appreciate that you tell it how it is. These monsters are just wicked. You alluded to the fact that she wanted to be in control and like a bully she exerted it on the only little men that she could.
the phone call with austin and his dad is so upsetting yet slightly heartwarming. Austins father was so calm with him, and polite just telling him about the news, the weather and how he was going to get him out of prison. The narrator says Austins voice is flat, however i honestly feel like he is scared or upset. His voice sounds shaky, and goes high pitched at points,indicating some clear emotion. I hope that Austin, his family and everyone else mentioned in this video are doing well.

Case 3 reminded me of Diane Downs, who attempted to kill her children (one died) because her lover didn't want to be a father; (he had nothing to do with it; she was a homicidal sociopath) the movie Small Sacrifices with Farrah Fawcett does a pretty good job in explaining how her twisted mind worked; one of Farrah's best performances ever.
This story in particular is so infuriating. Why not just give the father 100% custody of the children if you don't want them. I truly don't understand it

Because some people see their children as possessions. So they would rather dispose of them than give them up.
Their is a lot of controversy with Diane as they say her husband kept getting her pregnant over and over again and didn't believe in contraception or abortion etc.
People believe she had a mental break and kept trying to reach out but her husband didn't believe in medication if believe correctly.
They say postpartum/postnatal depression was the main factor.
So hard when it comes to children as they should be protected by their parents who they trust with their very lives only to be killed by them...just heartbreaking.
I'm hoping I haven't confused these two cases though.

Thinking about the fear those babies were going through in their last moments is horrifying and heartbreaking.
Austin’s story is so sad. I know schizophrenia onset can be rapid, but it’s so important to try and get people help as soon as they start acting very out of character. My brother was schizophrenic. He had been extremely violent and mean to me most of our childhood and into early adulthood. Once he was diagnosed I was hopeful it would help him get back on track with meds and therapy. Unfortunately that was no the case, and I cut ties because I was afraid of him and exhausted of getting my ass kicked for no reason other than his violent whims. What always strikes me about Austin’s case is I was always so afraid my brother was going to kill me, my parents, or strangers. He had a high IQ and a god complex, and I felt him capable of it. It sounds terrible, but I felt indescribable relief when he finally successfully un alived himself.

The Tim Bosma case is just a sad case all around. This happened in my hometown and it was very sad that this happened. A lot of people are wary about selling their cars online and have a second person always coming with them. Now if they meet in a public place with the vehicle as long as it’s running. People don’t take the chance of selling a car that’s not worth selling and I rather scrap it then have something like this happen again. I feel for the Bosma family and I really hope that they’re doing all right.
Even donating a car is an option. My last car completely died and rather than trying to sell it for whatever I could get, I donated it to NPR. A company picks it up and that was it.
My son is about the age of this Susan Smiths children... I would have adopted those kids and give them the love they never got. How tragic so many women have trouble giving birth take it for granted while so many are eager to outreach their arms and welcome what they themselves can't create.
Only love to those two children drowned because their mother had lost her way. RIP children and I wish I could've given you a long, happy healthy life. Too many tears.
I was in college when that happened, and was horrified. The safest thing is that their daddy would have taken them from her, but she never gave him the chance. 😢
schizophrenia and hallucinations are scary. 2 people i knew had it and it was very sad to see them spiral and come up with these weird things and sometimes be hostile. theres nothing you can do to get through to them. i have had a paranoia problem set off by meth and one time i hallucinated all these demons and a man looking at me through the window. i got a knife and was going to see if someone was there. i didn't have many visual hallucinations after that night but i would hear people saying things about me when they were talking about something completely different or think i was being poisoned for some weird reason. luckily it seems to be mostly gone now because i havent done drugs in a long time but i feel like if i had to live like that all the time i probably would've wanted to just die.
I had a similar experience with amphetamine that finally went away a few after I stopped using. I kept hearing voices telling me to hurt my mom. I recognized that they were in my head and didn't listen but they still wouldn't stop. But yeah that shit is scary, I couldn't imagine having to live like that every day
I felt my pulse stop on spice one time lol that stuff was no joke. That was like 12 years ago. I was just disappointed in myself
I never ever got over the last case. Never. The police who pulled those babies out were sobbing. I couldn’t get my head around it.

Schizophrenia comes out of nowhere. It happened to my son at the tender age of 19 too. Medicated he’s fine. He had several run ins with the police. I thank God the police was trained and recognized it was a mental health crisis. And didn’t hurt him. Know the signs. 😔

That first story is fu&@ing insane when you listen to the details. There is a video where the cop who arrived on the scene describes everything. The dog would latch on and he would rip his arm out it’s mouth . Insane .

I remember hearing about Austin’s crime on the news. Schizophrenia is a genuinely terrifying disorder and, while I don’t condone what Austin did, I do feel empathy for him and for others that struggle with it.
When I was 21 only drug I was on was weed I stayed up for 3 to 4 days and started loosing my mind I was at my gf house at the time and that’s when my delusions hit. Her mom had a weird bf that was there we were laying in bed she goes in the bathroom and my mind was going I thought she was in the bathroom with the bf I was racing snapped out left. I worked at a hospital overnight transporting patient I went to work had a mental breakdown at work seeing things thinking weird things starting crying. Got brought into an office and got 302 into the hospital I was working at in the physc section. There are things I don’t remember I’m awake but blacked out but when he googled do you need sleep. Most likely that was what caused it.

austin definitely sounded scared on the phone with his dad and like he was on the verge on tears/a breakdown. this poor boy needed help sooner and maybe he wouldn’t have done what he did. don’t get me wrong, what he did was horrid and no lives should’ve been lost, but truly i don’t think there was anything he could’ve done in that state of mind to talk himself out of what he was doing. rip to the stevens, and i hope austin is getting the help that he needs while serving his sentence. it’s also admirable that his dad is so comforting and loving despite the terrible thing he did, he knows his son was not himself and that he was acting extremely out of character. my heart goes out to both families, this is just overall really heartbreaking

Austin on phone with his dad sounds to me, like he's trying not to cry, and is very scared. What a good dad he has, assuring him he won't be left on his own and his family will do everything they can for him.
there were a lot of signs they dropped the ball on.he was patrolling the house all night for demons,etc.they should've taken action way before the oil drinking episode.

Watched a ton of these videos and this dude Austin is the only one I watched I felt sorry for. I got a full list of mental issues myself that's why I try to stay away from anyone. The thing I hate more than anything is when people try to use mental issues to hate on or hurt others.
Not sure why the narrator didn’t cover this crucial aspect of the story, but the dude was on bath salts. Don’t believe this piece of propaganda. He isn’t delusional. He isn’t schizophrenic. He was a massive drug user on a rampage and deserves zero sympathy.
