Great Box Caleb! That corner jig is slick, I need one of those.

It’s really handy! They’re easy to make, but’s it’s also nice to have something that’s just ready to go.

The box looks great, Caleb! I like how the finger joints look...the the white oak has a really nice color. When I saw you cutting down the lid, at first I was like, "Nooooooo...you're going to cut off the spalting!" but you were able to keep some of it.

So you did not want a hot mess of glue, that is funny, Hot Mess. Takes me back to my days in the Navy.

Great work. Question for you. How did you prevent your black epoxy from bleeding into the wood? Did you spray a thin coat of lacquer, shellac or thin coat of clear epoxy before pouring the black epoxy?

I didn’t, this was a fairly thick epoxy so trust wasn’t much of a problem. But if I did it again in oak I’d definitely do some sort of seal coat first.

nicw job! i've done black epoxy inlay on oak and the porous nature of oak sucked it into the grain and fuzzed my inlay. it looks like you didn't encounter this; or did you? if so, how did you deal with that?

I didn’t have an issue with that. I think because it was laser cut the burning may have helped seal some of it off.
