Interesting comments about working once then failing, i have owned countless sprayers over the years expensive and cheap. I haven’t had one fail on me yet, I wonder if are you cleaning out your sprayers completely? Anyways, just bought the homeright super finish and wow am I impressed, wanted something in between my conventional HVLP and airless to spray latex out if can. I have used this thing about 4 times and working like a champ! Leaves a fantastic finish and will be spraying my outdoor chairs and bathroom vanity real soon.

I gotta get me one of those face plates for bowls. I did one of those dovetail holes so my chuck would hold it for my first bowl...and while it came out okay, I bet it'd be a whole lot easier with one of those large faceplates. I have a set of carbide tools coming. Right now all I have is an HSS set and no jig to set them in on my grinder for when they get dull. I just have a regular speed 8" grinder, but I can lower its speed by simply plugging it into a variac (Variable voltage transformer) and lowering its speed by lowering the voltage to whatever I want. You have a nice shop! I have a few shop tools, but most are a bit old, but work fine. Rockwell 9" contractor table saw, Master Mechanic miter/chop saw, Wen tabletop belt/disc sander, Skil tabletop bandsaw, Central Machinery mini lathe, Campbell Hausfeld 60 gallon 2 stage compressor, etc. but I have to keep it kinda small as my shop is a one-car garage built in about 1940. I did upgrade to a breaker box from the old fuse box in there when I added the compressor and then ran new 12/3 wire on 4 more circuits for 4 more outlets than the single outlet it started with, lol. Have it lit with a lot of 4' florescent tubes as it was a year after I installed them that the LED tubes came out. First thing I ever did to that garage though was paint the cinderblock walls and plywood ceiling white so it is well lit in there.

I think you ran the air through it the wrong way ... first slow the air flow .. drops big chunks, then accelerate the airflow through the narrow passage and spin it up to use centrifical force to throw the fine dust to the sides of the exhaust pipe ... presumably you would take that spinning dust river on the exhaust pipe surface and funnel it into a collector .. I could be wrong, but ... plumb it the other way and see what happens?

  • @victoryak86

The Jet design seems just inferior. Usually the cyclone cone is vertical, having gravity as an aid. ( i know the cyclonic aspect is with the fins but..) it’s horizontal and the opening is small with too much “stuff” in the way leading to clogs. Those are just casual observations;. Anyway it was a good video.

Did you test air volume before and after taping your joints? It's obviously helpful, but I'm not sure the benefit is worth the cost and aesthetic mess created from taping (I actually care how it all looks), but the before/after Delta is substantive, then I'll tape the joints. Also, by not taping, I can more easily disassemble and reconfigure when needed. With the 6" PVC, the fittings are pretty tight even w/o tape.

I second the flex hose to the compressor into the building. I'd also suggest adding valves at each of the low points of the system, with the air outlet above them, to keep condensation from collecting in the airlines.

Hey! As A beginner woodworker, and having purchased mostly used saws, I've been using the blades that I have lying around or those that came with the saws. Your video prompted me to look critically at my blades and I find I'm using incorrect blades for my individual tasks. I will be visiting my local hardware store to purchase more correct blades. Thank you.

If you do this again, you really need a resilient connection, like a hose, coming off the tank. Hydraulic hose works great. This is because compressors vibrate a lot. If fact the can walk around if they are not anchored in place. This could the the compressor vibrations will be directly transmitted into the wall of your shop, or worse, the stress of the tank moving around can cause the rigid connection to fracture. A union on the tank with a loop of hydraulic hose will make things much better.

This was a perfect comparison for me. My single stage dust collector clogs all the time when I clean up after turning on my lathe, so I was to add the second stage (and a better filter). The smaller Jet unit seems to have the same problem my single stage collector has, which means for me, it's not the way to go.

Like a few other commenters have also noted, I watched another Avion restoration video (1968 Avion Trailer/RV Renovation Ep. 1) that mentions how Avions are built differently than Airstreams so the shell doesn't need to come off to replace the floor. Would love to get more of an understanding of how/why you plan to remove the shell - really looking forward to your next video!
