  • This is our first (and last) overnight trip out of Kumasi and took a Tro Tro to Bonwire, not too far from the center of town, to visit a Kente weaving workshop that produces these traditional fabrics that are so important to Ashanti history. The patterns and colors all have different meanings, but you can learn more about them in our upcoming post on our Ghana Travel Blog, which you can check out here:

Omg!!! I had no clue this tedious work was involved in the making of these cloths. I salute these gentlemen for their patience and skills. Just amazing. I'm definitely sharing this video with several people.

But they're working harder not smarter. To be fair, people buy these clothes at a very high price just because they're woven by hand.

As a person who crochets I have been looking for an African technique that I can transition to. I am no where near skilled enough to weave like these men but I am still searching.

The knitting from the North is not kente!! They don't have designs and are more mechanical.
