    "It's for security reasons" has clearly become Mojang/Microshaft's go to excuse for implementing features intended to take more and more control over how people play the game and what they're allowed to say and do. It's positively Orwellian and I assure you with almost 90% certainty it has nothing to do with "security".
    The entire reason Minecraft became so beloved in the first place was due to the creative freedom to play how you want and do what you want, when you wanted to, with little to no restrictions beyond your own in-game progression and acquired resources. Mojang/Microshaft are now stifling that freedom, and lying to our faces about their reasons.

When certain words are banned or censored because, though they aren't offensive themselves, they contain all or part of a derogatory word within them (i.e. the names certain countries, like Japan or Nigeria are censored), or are allowed to censor normal speech because some thin-skinned moron may be offended by it, especially when you basically encourage ratting out your neighbor/fellow player for wrongthink, there is no other word to describe that other than orwellian.
      I oppose all forms of censorship. Censorship is the tool of tyrants and cowards. Majority of people can keep playing the game thanks to mods, because vanilla Minecraft is a one trick horse that gets old fast and stays old for long. Without mods, no one even will just *be able* to play Minecraft more than like a week per year. Open it up for nostalgia's sake, play a bit, get bored, and leave for another year... I really hate it when people attribute these things primarily to Mojang, and slightly to Microsoft. It's the other way around where most of the controversial stuff are from Microsoft more than they are from Mojang. I'm not saying Mojang is perfect, not by far (their dumb views on vertical slabs is a huge example among many). But think about it. Minecraft, a game made off the premise of being able to do whatever you wanted, mod in whatever you wanted, made by a studio who for the most part does right by their community, starts making anti-consumer/player changes after being bought by a company known for doing anti-consumer things? The push for parity? Microsoft. The push for Bedrock over Java? Microsoft as Bedrock fully came to be after their acquisition of Mojang. The whole thing with chat reporting and crack down on "mods that hurts the brand image"? Microsoft. Mojang had no issues with mods that adds gun imagery as far as I could tell, until one day it suddenly an issue. This push to remove community made mods to be replaced by the marketplace that Microsoft can more directly benefit from is 1000%, without a doubt, a Microsoft move. Mojang wouldn't benefit from this anywhere near where Microsoft would. Hell, Java doesn't suffer from this because there isn't an official monetized storefront like Bedrock. So no, this isn't people getting mad at Mojang with Microsoft catching strays, this is people getting made at Microsoft's insatiable greed with Mojang being the fall guy.

    This is why I'm never moving to bedrock. I enjoy how java is a game you buy for 30 dollars (Already cheap), and you can mod it and shape it into anything you want.
    Edit:
    It's cheap for a game. Alot of popular games cost around 65 dollars. NOT TO MENTION, with java you aren't just spending $30 on the game, but also you unlock a world of THOUSANDS of mods that let you make the game.

    • @CZghost
      @CZghost Před 2 měsíci +3

      $30 is cheap? I wouldn't call that cheap. Here in Czechia, most people can't really afford it (which is why so many people play pirated version frankly - and this is also a sole reason why there are so many cracked servers in Czechia - they wouldn't have players otherwise), and just to show you what I mean, $30 (which is about €30 as well) is about 700 CZK. That's a fairly expensive game on our end. Most players wait for sales to purchase a copy, hoping the price drops down a fair amount (like 30% and more), because it actually eats into our salary quite a bit. I was lucky to purchase my copy for about $15 somewhen around 2018-ish, when there was a sale event, and I even managed to get myself a free copy of Minecraft Windows Edition (which is basically Bedrock), which was given out as a redeem code if you purchased the Java Edition. Back then, the value of USD to CZK was a bit different, so it's hard to give you an accurate conversion, but it was still fairly expensive. I was taking a risk purchasing my copy. But I was determined to start a CZcams channel, and for that I actually wanted a legal copy of the game, and I didn't want to play cracked version online. Purchasing the game opened me to servers like Hypixel, Hive and many US-based servers. It was a gamble in essence, that paid off. I was uncertain if I did a right thing.
      Just because $30 looks cheap to you doesn't mean it's cheap for everybody else. Internet is *NOT* just USA, there's a whole another world out there. Remember that.

    Now, I don’t make Minecraft mods, but I’m very familiar with reverse engineering games. I want to share my take on this as someone with years of experience on the field. The PDB file is basically the second best thing you can get besides the source code itself. It’s a map of name-address for classes and functions, having it means that you just have to search things by name in softwares like Ghidra to update mods.
    Like, assuming that the plug-in loader runs when the game executes a specific boot function (I know nothing about Minecraft plug-in loading again, this is hypothetical), the problem is that to make it run at that specific spot, you need to know where the code for it is located in the game exe, having the PDB means you can just search by name and get the address. If they don’t have it, they have to find this address manually, and that can take time. However, there are ways around it, and they are not too time consuming (unless they obfuscate the games’s exe), I’m talking about stuff like AOB scanning for those familiar with the job. Even if they remove it, I think people will eventually come around it and find a way to maintain their code. I’m active in the Souls community, my main work has been on Dark Souls 2, and we’ve never had PDBs for these games, it’s definitely possible, just harder and more time consuming.
    If someone knows about Minecraft inner workings and what I said here is wrong, please let me know. I just wanted to share an educated guess on this, but again I have never touched Minecraft for modding purposes in my life, so there are stuff I could definitely have missed

    Only recently started experiencing Java for the first time. Only got Pixelmon Reforged with no extra mods (due to not knowing it was possible and is a first). Didn't know Bedrock could be modded. But going to be against the change to remove modding from Bedrock. Even if I do plan to move to Java.

      Pixelmon Reforged is one of my favorite mods of all time. Depending on your preferences though I recommend also trying out Cobblemon. It’s another Pokémon mod that does mostly the same things, but the two are still different enough to the the point where I think you should try both to see which style of Minecraft + Pokémon you like more. Know beforehand that Cobblemon is still in development, so many of the moves don’t have particle animations and not all of the Pokémon are in the game yet. Personally, I’m waiting for the Pokédex to be completed and then I’m fully switching to Cobblemon.

      Sadly true. While it's true I have plenty of criticisms regarding Mojang and Microshaft's handling of recent updates (or certain updates in general, like the aptly nicknamed Update 1.9.84 that allows the company to literally spy on you and deprive you of access to the game remotely for the "crime" of saying something that someone may be "offended" by, even on your own private server); but even I find the online hate-mob tactics and death threats utterly reprehensible and vile.
      Not to mention it gives a bad name to those of us who actually have legitimate criticisms and the ability to keep a level head while voicing them.
