Thank you!!! It's an absolute crime that the camera doesn't come with this feature already enabled by default. So many movies of my son ruined because there was no way to focus the video. Whomever at Canon decided that this feature needed to be disabled by default should be fired!
Oh my gosh this is so helpful!! I have been struggling trying to find the autofocus... I also didn't know that aF stood for auto focus... Thanks a lot!
Hey bro it's 2018 and i'm still using this kind of camera so I've been searching for an answer on how to do it so right now i'm really happy i saw your vid!!
I suggest using any kind of external mic for audio recording because you'll probably get better quality audio from using a dedicated mic and most likely won't pick up the annoying autofocus noise. I don't use an external mic myself (I rarely autofocus in video), but people have suggested the Rode stereo videomic pro in the past.
These models all differ slightly, so mine, which is not the T3i but standard EOS 600D, attempting autofocus as suggested in the video, half pressing the shutter button, didn't work, but I noticed on the info of the display screen the * flashing, so I pressed the * star button which is behind the on/off switch. It worked! These machines are so complicated and user manuals do not tell you everything!
You can press the shutter button at any time during recording to take a picture. Note that it does show the picture you took for a sec during recording. Try it out yourself to see how it is. Could always remove that section when editing your footage though.
Great video! Good job:) One question: Do you film yourself in the video also with the canon 600d? I mean the scences where you sit on the red sofa Thanks
do you have to hold the shutter button down the whole video to keep it in auto focus through the whole video or can you just hold it down until it focuses ?
The autofocus is noisy if your using a kit lens for example. But if you buy an USM lens or a lens with good AF ist a lot less noisy. And with an external mic too its gonna sound great ;). Thx for the video!
Nice! Are there any other advantages to using a USM lens? An external mic would be nice, I'll have to consider it. From what I've seen, many people pick up a Zoom H1 or a Rode.
Oh! I get what you mean now! Sorry, I thought you meant taking a pic while recording a video (since the video you're commenting on is about recording video ...). Don't have my 600D on me right now, so I'm not too sure, but I'll be making a bunch of videos regarding stuff like that later.
I have done exactly what you did in the video, however I'm still not getting any autofocus done. It shows up some stuff at the bottom of the screen when I try to gently touch the auto-focus button but no autofocus. If I push it all the way down, I take a picture in camera mode. Am I doing something wrong?
Yeah it does auto focus, but it's sh!* If you're looking for a DSLR to get into vlogging or similar, especially where you might be moving around or selfie vlogging on the go, you will need something like the Canon 70D where it will focus WHITHOUT having to hold the shutter button down. Nice little video though. WHat MIC are you using?
I agree bro. I´m doing a few videos, and the AutoFocus is a problem when you want to change de subject. I want to change my old 600d, and I´m thinking about a Canon 5D Mark3 or Sony A7ii (my pocket can't afford more - I'm from Argentina haha), so I need to evaluate not only for photos, for video too, and something I want is have a good focus in video. Greetings!
No probs! I was searching for some time as well. If you want to know how to do manual focus as well, check out my Channel and look for the EOS 600D playlist.
Thank you!!! It's an absolute crime that the camera doesn't come with this feature already enabled by default. So many movies of my son ruined because there was no way to focus the video. Whomever at Canon decided that this feature needed to be disabled by default should be fired!
Agreed, I think it should be enabled by default. I too lost a few, otherwise good, videos as a result.
Oh my gosh this is so helpful!! I have been struggling trying to find the autofocus... I also didn't know that aF stood for auto focus... Thanks a lot!
Thank you for this video, have been looking for this option for ages!
WOOOW thank you very much!
I searched very long for this :)
Your video is still useful in 2020... Nice job!
thanks brain, this is so good mate, we been tryna do this for ages
This was very helpful thank you. I am going to test it out and see if it works with the remote.
Awsome video, really helpful. Thank you !
Thanks man! Was asking myself for a while if it's even possible at all! :)
Not a problem! :)
Hey bro it's 2018 and i'm still using this kind of camera so I've been searching for an answer on how to do it so right now i'm really happy i saw your vid!!
Wow this video has helped me soooo much! I've been trying to figure out how to autofocus whilst recording for months! Thanks :)
No problems! :D
omg! life saver... thank you so much!!!! I was literally gonna buy a new camera for this!!! thank you :)
Nice vid fella :)
One day I might actually read the manual, ha ha, but there's so many good video tutorials out there :)
Yeah, haha. Video is a much more interesting way to learn, as opposed to reading a boring manual. So, I plan to bring you all more :)
Man, that was really helpful, thanks alot!
Helped a lot. Very nice video! Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
OMG thank you for this video! I was actually buying a new camera just because of this reason!!!! Haha thank you so much
Yeah, I expected continuous AF as well (coming from camcorders), but was pleasantly surprised with how much I like manual focus
Helpful video, thanks for creating! And nice table football set :D
No probs; glad I helped :)
Super nice and helpful video!!
Thanks man. Just recorded a 10 min video, wish i watched this tutorial before i started :D
Suberb.. Was trying to figure out how to autofocus in Video mode all these days.. Thanks.. It helped.

pete Davies the 600d and the t3i is the same exact camera just different names
No probs! Manual focus is quite nice.
great video! so helpful.
No problems! Glad I could help :)

Great video, absolutely love this camera although I prefer the manual focus.
Cheers man, you saved my day
No problem, I'm glad this helped.
this video help me
first i thing my camera lens is broken but you teach me
thank you so much
Thanks! It definitely is a great camera. I do have a video up regarding manual focus on my channel.
Glad you found it useful
Cheers. Helped a lot.

Hey! Do you know ho it can AF when I am vlogging and no one is controlling the camera??
Thank you, man! Now I got it!!!!!!
No problems; glad I could help
Thank you for the tips.
Thank god for you!!
Thank you mate!
thank you it's helpful
Super useful!
Great video! Good job:)
One question: Do you film yourself in the video also with the canon 600d? I mean the scences where you sit on the red sofa
Thanks
Thanks! Those shots were taken with the 600D. I love using it for video.
Very helpful! Thankyou! :)
No problems
do you have to hold the shutter button down the whole video to keep it in auto focus through the whole video or can you just hold it down until it focuses ?
thank you sooo much for this video!! :)

perfect! Thanks!
A bit late comment, but thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

that was very helpful mate! only question why does it not so this automatically!!
Thank you , so helpful
Very helpful video. Now i know that the autofocus really isn't smooth while in video. I'll probably have to use manual. Thanks!
Thanks Bro ! Appreciate it!
great tutorial!
Thanks; glad you enjoyed it.
When you train focusing by hand it is easier faster and more quiet way to focus.
I think there's an option for that, but then the camera will periodically refocus and make noises and such
This was helpful
Glad I could help!
Is Cannon 600D worth it now?
I want to buy a DSLR...
Which one would you recommend?
(Same price range:P)
Hold down the shutter button and press it in to take a photo while recording. Just like you would in any other mode.
Glad I could help
Thank you so much!
Is there any way it can do auto focus without having to press the shutter button?
Oh! I get what you mean now! Sorry, I thought you meant taking a pic while recording a video (since the video you're commenting on is about recording video ...). Don't have my 600D on me right now, so I'm not too sure, but I'll be making a bunch of videos regarding stuff like that later.
Hi does it not also focus in manual? As when operating my gimble i am not touchig the camera
also! do you recommend a good wireless auto focus remote? where you can auto focus when sitting down.
I haven't look into doing that. What I do is place an object where I'll be sitting / standing, focus on that, then stand there and record.
If you use a a stm lens will it be silent and faster
Thank you my G
I have done exactly what you did in the video, however I'm still not getting any autofocus done. It shows up some stuff at the bottom of the screen when I try to gently touch the auto-focus button but no autofocus. If I push it all the way down, I take a picture in camera mode. The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM comes with extreme picture quality and a USM motor for ~350$. But the bad thing is that it is an prime lens. ;)
HELPFULLLL! Liked!
Thanks!
Hey if you recording your self and the camera is on a tri pod will it auto focus it's self ?
So I must first start recording, and then hold down the shutter button?
i gonna buy canon 600d but i dont about camera friend its best one?
How do you get the camera to take a picture automatically
The Rode mics sound a little bit better than the Zoom does and with the Zoom you have to edit the sound and the video together.
Maybe using manual is better because of the focus issues in video and lens focusing noise.
Agreed
So there is no noise when using focus manually?
Yeah it does auto focus, but it's sh!* If you're looking for a DSLR to get into vlogging or similar, especially where you might be moving around or selfie vlogging on the go, you will need something like the Canon 70D where it will focus WHITHOUT having to hold the shutter button down.
Nice little video though. WHat MIC are you using?
No probs!
I'm using an Tamron Piezo Drived lens with an Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro and its great for filmmaking! :D
My macro zooming lens isnt focusing in autofocus mode.Any help?
thanks for the tip.. btw great accent
No problems! :D
Nice
600D is only a stills camera :P I tried video with it but never again haha. Only good if you prefocus and don't move.
I agree bro. I´m doing a few videos, and the AutoFocus is a problem when you want to change de subject.
I want to change my old 600d, and I´m thinking about a Canon 5D Mark3 or Sony A7ii (my pocket can't afford more - I'm from Argentina haha), so I need to evaluate not only for photos, for video too, and something I want is have a good focus in video.

angger keneh euy
I think it's a mistake to use AF on video footages
thanks alot!
No probs!
Yep!
helpful
is there a way that it is autofocusing by itself whithout having to press any button ? thx
Not as far as I know, sorry
No problems!
I use the EFS 15-85 Ultra Sonic,no noice by focusing.
No probs! I was searching for some time as well. If you want to know how to do manual focus as well, check out my Channel and look for the EOS 600D playlist.
You can always switch to manual focus
No noise with manual focus, that's right
Are you supposed to use a spesific kind of mic (im a noob here, so be gentle) or is the camera mic plug in the standard one?
Did you ever find out?😂
OMG Rajesh Ramayan Koothrappali also takes pictures!
