The best tutorial that I've found for a beginner like myself, thanks so much.
Thanks for all your 600D guides, that's my weekend sorted :)
Just bought a 600D last week, getting to grips with it a lot better now with the help of your videos.......Thanks
Just dug up my old Canon T3i to film some videos. This was super helpful since I"m a newbie with DSLR video. Thank you! :D
thank you for an excellent tutorial...I learned more in this video than all the t3i ones I've watched. Going to use these settings on a wedding I'm filming next week
Thank you very much! I just sat here and did it with my own camera! awesome!!! thank you so much!
Thanks again Dave, note I have only just found your channel! I will defiantly be trying these setting out when I get my new camera.
Thank you so much. Your videos are very helpful and its always good to see that you help people with their problems in the comment section. :D
You are a great, I have subscribed you, you have given me that knowledge that booklet of canon didn't gave me. Thanks a lot !!!
Thanks man, you save my money, nerves and wasting of time, now i can filmed videos with much more quality and no stress for all. Cheers
i enjoyed your tutorial, i am gonna make a full length independent feature film soon with my canon 600d and thank you for the tutorial i learned a good bit here .
Kevin Cronin did you ever make the movie? I plan on making one this summer with my t3i and Mavic Pro drone.
Use Manual Focus and manually adjust the focus with the focus wheel.
If you're finding that the depth of field is too small, decrease the aperture (increase the f value).
Hope this helps
Thanks for the answer, ill stay tuned for more videos. Great job you are doing, it helps a lot. Keep it high like this. Cheers!
Very helpful...I dealt with my new cam shutting off in the middle of recording....very frustrating, you saved my life...thanks.
glad it helped!
Thanks a lot it really worked out👏👏
Thank you so much your a life saver!!
Thank you for this video I appreciate it 🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️ Supporting From US
Thanks for filming this. It was helpful!
rambuik kau karitiang :v
Beautiful video from canon 600D
Thank you that was so helpful
Hi, thanks! The effect of the blurred background is achieved by using a shallow depth of field with a very wide aperture on the lens. In this case it was a Canon 50mm 1.8 lens at its widest aperture of 1.8. Details of other manual exposure settings for this effect are in the manual exposure video I also did.
I just got crazy as your video started with that cool music and then the music stopped :o
Thank you for the help m8 very very good advice
Thank you very much! Very helpful!
Thanks so much for this video. I found it to be extremely helpful.
glad it helped!
Happy filming! its a great camera
Best tutorial ever
I am from India.... Awesome video
Really helpfull thank you very much Sir.
Thanks. it was avery useful video. 👍
To start out filmmaking with this camera on a budget I would suggest getting it with the bundled 18-55mm kit lens cos that gives you a nice range of wide to mid angle shots at a low price. And I would also buy the the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens which is a great quality low price versatile lens which allows you to get the cinematic shallow depth of field look on a budget. It can record at 60FPS in 720p (HD .. but not full 1080p HD mode). Yes shutter speed is completely manual in manual exposure mode.
Format the card using the camera menu (low level). The camera formats the card in a special way that makes it faster to write the video file. The weird thing is that you need to format the card each time you remove it from the camera to copy the files. Also, use a class 10 card.
Did enjoy that. It would be even better with more example footage; like you touch a setting and then show the resulting footage that you shot on that setting. But this is wonderful...and very clear. Thank you!
thanks very helpful I have been taping in the wrong setting for a year
Glad it helped
Thanks for the help
thanks. you are really helping me out.
really glad it helped!
Dave HowTo i ve decided to shoot a movie using this camera. later i will transfer the edited footage to 35mm film for theatrical release. can i use this camera as an alternative to canon 5d mark2 as most film makers in my country do .
+Dave HowTo how long can this camera record Video. Because i have canon 7D n it only recoreds 10mins max.
nic sup
Thanks a lot for the video!
Thanks for the video. And btw I was wondering whats this metering timer for??
Congratulation from Brazil Dave. watching. thank you
Good....
It works......
Thanks 💪...
Thanks, very helpful
Thanks man helped a lot
glad it helped!
Hi Stambin. Thats a good lens you are using so your lens is not your problem. If you want the blurred out of focus area behind your subject be sure to set the aperture of the lens to near the maximum ie 1.4 or 2. If the video is too sharp set the picture style to neutral to make it less sharp. If your colors are strange set the white balance to auto. If the color is still strange do a manual white balance. That should cure your problem I hope that helps!
ty for the video it helped
Very helpful thanks!
Glad it was useful to you.
Effecting the results for sure. So you can post process them as you want. If the video very sharp then you can't remove that from it but if it is not that sharp then you can add that to it in any editing software. Still it is up to you and how do you want it to look in the end.
Hey Dave what lens do you use on this video and which lens do you suggest for a normal distance? Thanks in advance, you got my subscribe!
I used auto focus, but this would work equally well with same result in manual focus
Much appreciated.
Thanks for the informative videos ;)
Oh you sound so professional. You are a professional photographer. Aren't you?
Well there are many variables in filming that affect quality. After you have set the settings above, you need to set your focus correctly and your exposure (manual) - have a look at my videos on those subjects as well on this channel. I hope that helps
So if I'm getting a lot of noise in my image, is there anything else I can do to the settings to get around that? Or is it that handled in post? Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks for the video...on my movie rec. size, I have the option of chossing 1920x1080 and 30 fps...should I choose 30fps instead of 24?...does it make a difference?
Is there a way to allow the rebel t3i to shoot by using the shoot button instead of the liveview button? I want to use my remote shutter to activate the video but it won't work
Thanks Dave,
We are having trouble with noise in our colors (darker colors to be exact) ... Wondering what ISO setting your using and if that helps at all? We have ours at 800 - 1600 - 3200 depending on the lighting conditions.
Great informational video. What camera did you use to shoot this video?
Thank you so much for making this video!! I just ordered my T3i and cannot wait to use it. Would all of the settings mentioned in this video be best for videos I plan on uploading to CZcams?
Yes for sure. Always use the best quality to record in. When going to encode for CZcams you should also select H264 MPEG4 as the movie type.
Okay, will do. Thanks for the tip!!
good topic tnx for this , i wanted to know the last part of this video when u r saying tahnks which lesn is that did u used coz it is very sharp and the foucus the background is very bluer so plz tell me which lens is that tnx agian
Hit the Q button to the right of your LCD, scroll down to the second window, which allows you to change the white balance, then use the left and right to adjust it for the conditions you are shooting in. Select tungsten when shooting indoors under tungsten lighting.
great. glad u found it userful
Which Lenz Do U Recommend For Videos..??
Good video. Thanks!
What are the best settings for indoor filming? My videos look way too bright and i dont think i have them in the right settings, if you take a look at my latest videos you can see how white the background is :(
make sure you turn down your iso. also turn Down your aperture. Rule of thumb, if your fps is set to 24fps then your shutter should be set to 1/48 or 1/50. the idea is to double the shutter speed of whatever the fps is set too. So if your shooting at 60 fps then you set your shutter to 1/120.
This was helpfull, thank you for sharing. But I still have a question. When I want to record, my camera also a 600D stops automatically around the 40 seconds :(
it can depend on the speed of ur memory card it should be between 6-10 or higher
DLK I have a 32 gb memory card and it also stops automatically. How do u fix that?
Were you able to fix ur problem? I have the same problem though i have a 32gb memory card.
SoftwareAnalyst yes, After I watched this I searched for more information about memorycards on youtube. I learned a lot. So I went to the store and bought one with it is a 10 speed. 80 MB/seconds and 16 GB memorycard. Stops automatically at 12 minutes recording but thats okay for now. Memory cards are quit expensive here in The Netherlands. In the future I'll buy a better one
Thanx for ur reply. I did some digging too. And found out that u have to take into account the memory card brands as well. Some brands will give u a 10s recording time even if it's class 10. The recommended ones are Transcend and Sandisk. I ordered one last night and hopeful it will fix the pb.
As for the 12 mins, canon t3i only allows u to record for that period of time it's a defect. To make it not stop at 12 mins, install magic lantern.
yes as teamtakeoff says below you need a class 10 sd card, anything less and you will get a problem when shooting movies. Also when you get the card format it on your camera first before you use it. Hope that helps.
What settings do you recommend for shooting on green screen... so far all my attempts in various levels of lighting have proved a waste of time as they come out too blurry to be able to effectively key out the green. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
thanks very helpful
Great upload
tnx for your video can u plz tell me what lenes did u used on this video when you are recoreding yourself in this video
Hi Dave. i just got T3i. got the problem with setting and u already did help with this video. thx btw.
But i still have a little white square right in the middle of the screen. it will be OFF only when i'm recording video. but . . i dont want it there no more. please help
You can use any lens to shoot movies on DSLRS... that's part of the great attraction and fun in using them for film making ! Just to start somewhere at low cost the most useful ones are in my opinion the ones I mentioned and build on those as you get more confident. Long telephoto type lens' are less useful for filming (unless you are filming sports events or wildlife). Also don't forget on crop sensor cameras like the 600D a 50mm lens is actually gonna give a 80mm full frame film view etc.
Thanks Very Much.
Thank you!
Hi there, this is great! Should I use NTSC or PAL? I'm editing with Mac on I Movie. Thank you.
THANK YOU. Soo much
I've mentioned it in a few other responses, but ideally you want to get something fairly fast. Going by class isn't always reliable. Some companies don't use the same standard of transfer speed per class. You want to shoot for something that does 45 mbs to be safe.
Hi. I want to know how do you get the video to be focused on you but with A blurred background?
with a 16gb class 10 SD card, for how long can you record continously with this camera? (even at 720p)
hi you need to make sure your camera is in movie mode on the top dial, then check your settings
Thank-you.
Well one option is to use the 1280 50/60 recording size that gives you the 720p recording size which is HD and very good quality just not as "big" as the Full HD 1080p. It gives fine resolution on all pc monitors/you tube etc and even on large screen tvs its acceptable (most digital broadcast HD is now 720p ...). By doing that you can increase the frame rate to 50 or 60.
You can also use Magiclantern to artificially increase the frame rate a bit (to 37fps) but its a bit flaky in that regard.
Dave HowTo Are you using the standard Kit Lens for the T3I? Thanks.
What should I do if the Camera says, "Movie recording has been stopped automatically"? Thank u. Ur answer is a big help for me. :)
Check you have a fast enough SD card (class 10 minimum). Also the camera stops after about 12 mins automatically, just start it again. (or use magic lantern to auto restart). Hope that helps!
I've a question, please. I purchased a class 10 sd card and the movie recorded just fine. But when I transferred it in my laptop, the movie speed becomes really slow? But it's fine on my camera.
which program are you playing it in on your computer? and make sure you have the updated video codecs for your system.
Thank you so much :)
Hi, yes the lens is a canon 50mm 1.8 lens
Thx man!
No problem,
if you set the region on your camera to NTSC (USA) then the rate is 50fps. If you change the region to PAL (UK and Europe) then you get the 60 fps. Yes to use slowmo you need to use the 720p setting.
best on youtube!!!!!!
im not sure if anyone can help me, but every time I try to record a video, it looks great on my camera. But when I import them and open them on either iMovie or Photoshop cs6, it's incredibly slow. I've tried to do a couple different things to fix it but nothing has worked. I have a 32gb card. if anyone has any advice that would be great!
How do you change the f/stop? My problem has been getting the burred- bokeh backgrounds that I do when shooting pictures in manual to come through on my films
Hold down the AV button while turning the dial. to open up the aperture to the max you can get with your lens.
thank you so much!
Does anyone know why the settings don't stay the same as you last left it on? Everytime I turn on my Canon, I have to keep adjusting the settings to what I like. I want it to stay how I leave it instead of resetting constantly...
7 years later your at 1 million. Congrats 💯
@@hamzaibntahir9877 Thank you! 🙌🏼
Thanks for that
once you are hooked on lenses it becomes a mini obsession and like us all you can spend a small fortune :). For example a great top quality all-round zoom lens for video or photos is the Canon 24mm-104mm "L" lens.. but top Lenses are expensive.. that one is about 600 pounds. Other higher quality 50mm lens is the Canon 50mm 1.4 (about 250GBP) or the best 1.2L(1000GBP). You can have a look also at the mixing cheaper 2nd hand Nikon lens with adaptors, there are many bargains on ebay
Very good
ntcs used in the US and pal used in some other countries you can google which countries use what in their TV broadcast. And the frame rate depends on what you use pal or ntsc.
Hi, I just bought a 600d. I have a question. how do you adjust the lens to make it focuses just on you? thanks!
What settings do you suggest to avoid noise in low light videos? I use 50fps to avoid light flickering and do smooth slow motions in editing. But I can't set shutter speed to 1/50 (as I read somewhere is the best setting for low light shooting) because it stuck to 1/60 and doesn't go under. What shall I do?
Its almost impossible to avoid noise in low light/shadows on most DSLRs (though the 5DMKIII comes close!) SO the best thing to make your life much easier is to invest a small amount in NEAT video noise reduction software. It works great, is quick, and works as a plugin in Premiere and After effects as well as many other editors
Dave HowTo
I already have it but I am pretty sure that a lot of people doesn't even use it and they obtain a very great result with canon 550D and maybe the 50mm, f/1.8 lens. I just ask my self how they can?
Most videographers use noise reduction in post for dark shadow areas, its a standard part of post production in those situations and the results are excellent. To improve your shots in addition you should not go above iso 1600 (try lower) and also consider lighting your scene
Dave HowTo I shoot videos in clubs so I cannot work on the light but just on the camera. What settings do you suggest with a 50fps video? Shutter speed, ISO, Aperture and stuff?
is the canon 50mm f1.8 lens mounted on 600d can be comfortably used in indoors for filming or photography. please give ur your reviews on both the lens &camera.
Whats the equivalent of auto exposure or canon 650D?
