Found this from the War of the Spark: Ravnica book review. I can say with 100% certainty that the narrative present in this audio is equivalent to the stellar quality I've come to expect from audiobooks on the level of Timothy Zahn. Will definitely be looking forward to more of this!
Oh man. A Magic novel by Zahn. Why did you make me want this?
This is the end of side one.
Please continue the story on side two.
BEEP
I don't know why this hasn't got a like yet that was hilarious.
+Billable eh, id wager that the majority of the audience doesn't understand the reference. alas, we're old fogies now -_-
@@buddykiller too true :pepeHands:
all I can say is I just invested 47 minutes of my time and I was completely sucked into this story. I would happily support more of these stories.
Yay! I'm so happy to hear you liked it. It was so fun to put together and I look forward to more.
+Shaun Penrod who are you why isn't TCC responding
Some of the most well spent 47 minutes i can imagine
gen doukeshi has all of them :D He doesn't get enough views for the time he puts into them
In my opinion this is near perfect, presenting the story in such a way is truly amazing.
I just personally feel that the sound effects detracts from the experience, filling a role that is not needed, the narrator and actors do a good enough job to paint the picture needed to immerse yourself.
Keep in mind this is episode 1. Your feedback is IMPORTANT, including what you feel didn't work, so cheers.
And I can't wait for episode 2-them all. If the majority enjoys the sound effects and what they bring of course they should stay, it is not enough of a detraction to keep me away!
I actually like the use of sound effects, because they add a "we're doing a radio play" feel that you can't really avoid when using different voice actors, but I think the volume on them should be a bit lower and they shouldn't be so prominent.
I think the squishy sound was over used but otherwise the SFX are a good addition.
That was the idea. I wanted to capture the old radio story feel.
I'm glad Tolarian Community College is becoming so successful! I remember when you only had some 20,000 subs. We've come so far. I think you just make the superior superior secondary content.
1 up
thank you very much for this, i would have never really dived into the lore if not for you guys to bring it to me in a comprehensive manner such as this. keep up the good work. this channel is the reason I play magic the gathering
Thanks for watching. I'm really glad you liked it. I look forward to many more. With your support, we can make it happen.
Fabulous stuff. Many thanks to all the artists, performers and writers for bringing this to life for us to enjoy!
They are amazing. Thank you for you support.
Thank you so much!!
I'm only 3 minutes in and I already love it. The narrator is really calming, and the art is so beautiful. Tbh, one of the reasons I love Magic is the art. It's what drew me into the game. I love opening my new cards and diving into the artwork. I study each card, and I feel like the art is a really amazing explanation for the card's abilities. The little details are so beautiful. If I may, I'd like to recommend my favorite Community College makes a video about the art (I've just barely scraped the surface of this channel, so if you have already addressed the art, please pardon my request).
I love your videos Tolarian Community College! Keep up the AMAZING work!!!
LOVE the immersive feel of how the story was presented as a whole. this kind of feeling and ability to truly transport the listener into the plain and follow the story of this chapter of the MTG universe is something wizards really should pay attention to more and get behind perhaps. Should this quality of production continue, i see greatness in this series for sure.
Found this today. I really liked the Shadows over Innistrad storys and read all of them when they came out. Since then I wanted to have Halana and Alena as Legendary Creatures to build a EDH deck around them. I am so happy they printed them in Commander Legends. Today they're at the helm of my EDH deck and I learned to love Gruul through them. ^^
This recording has an magnificent quality. I didn't know you had this on your channel Professor. Thank you!
Wow! This was great, I definitely need more of those!
Believe it or not, I was searching for magic audiobooks today on youtube and didn´t find any.
Then I got the notification of a new Tolarian Video and here it was! The timing couldn´t have been better.
Beeing a big fan of Audiobooks and OldTimeRadio plays, this is perfect for me and my reignited love for magic!
Big props and thanks to everyone involved!
Shaun - I am so glad you hooked up with the Professor to add this very valuable visual element. As you know, I'm not into Magic but I do like good story-telling and this enhanced the audio only version so much. Anyone liking the genre can appreciate it without playing the game. This should increase your exposure and hopefully gain more sponsors to create more stories. Great job to both of you.
I absolutely love this. I've been playing Magic for over 14 years, which I know isn't really all that long, but the only reason I have kept coming back to the game is because of the story. I feel like this video is one of the best renditions of the story I have ever heard.
The lore is great, and 14 years is a long time, that's awesome.
I'm glad you liked it.
Very good production value for the audio drama! I would listen to more of these.
This is great! I would watch everything of this type of content you'd put out. Most of your content is aimed at the newer players and kind of misses my demographic, but as an avid audiobook/podcast listener this really hits home for me. I'm a fan! More!
So glad you liked it. I hope there is more too.
+Shaun Penrod Hey! After finishing the story I realized this was your content hosted by tolarian academy, I think? Question: if you reach your first patreon goal, how often can patreons(/everyone?) expect new episodes? I'm debating chipping in and frquency of content would be a big factor in making that decision.
Love that you're always pushing the envelope and creating new types of content (and supporting others who create content). This community college is quickly becoming a university.
Well said. And thanks for watching.
This is fantastic! All the storytelling told behind the game (flavor text etc.) keeps me interested in each block. MORE!
I love this. so much. I work at a job that is a constant grind that does nothing to keep my mind preoccupied, so I almost always keep a podcast going. Usually it's MTG based or politics, and when I heard the first episode on MTG Pro Tutor, it was really refreshing to have something that reflected my interests, but felt so different and well done. I'm really glad you've included it on your channel, and hope it helps to spread the word so we can have more! Many thanks, prof.
Yeah! Can't get enough Arlinn Kord!!
This is fantastic. The enthusiasm in the narrator's voice and effort in the foley. I admit, I was not expecting this.
I'd love to see some of the Khans Block, but I know how much time has to go into these and there's so much potential content.
this is like a podcast and I absolutely love it. I'd actually download this if this was a podcast. keep it up!
half way through and already a huge fan of this. please don't stop. and please do the entire magic story line.
How did I miss this last year....just watched the Arlinn Kord episode and it was incredible.
Wizards decision to focus on story has finally dragged me back into the game. Seriously a good call on their end.
I've seen many lore videos before, but none of them compare to this one. When the video ended I almost shouted "MORE!"
OMG this was amazing!! The narrator did his job really well, the sound effects were mostly all beautifully synced, and the actors put all the emotion and effort. We need this for ALL of Magic's history!!!
I'm glad you liked it. I loved working with the actors. They are very very talented.
even though I've read this, this is a perfect way to tell the stories! Thank you Professor
So glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. If you'd like to see more check out the Patreon page.
Shaun, any chance you are looking for voice actors in the future? I love this so far and would be thrilled to help out.
Basically liked right at 1:30, totally what I've been waiting for!
I love this so much! Sorry, I’m only just finding this now but hands down one of my favorite things you’ve put together Prof. I wish there were more of these.
Oh that "To Be Continued" Piss me the fuck off. Really great job guys!. Loving the story
Outstanding work! The part at the altar was chilling and fantastic. Kudos to the unnerving music and splendid voice acting. I hope to hear more of this.
It's times like this that I wish CZcams had a "love" button. This was amazing. Thank you. Thank you.
I'd half expected this to be Magic's Story presented with voice acting and animation. Now THAT, I would LOVE to see.
That was very immersive and overall amazing, definitely wouldn't mind seeing more of these in the future :)
Thanks so much. Check out www.magicthestory.com to help make the series regular.
11/10 so impressed with the production quality. I would to see these sort of things for planeswalker origin stories and other key mtg lore events and history
Thanks so much. Gald you liked it. :)
I appreciate your feedback and would love to do PW origins as well.
With your support we can. Check out the Patreon page.
45 minutes with a crew in one episode? Thank you Professor. Liked, commented, shared.
This was perfect! Ya'll were spot on the with the acting, and I can hardly wait for more
Amazing! I was taken away. :) Thank you Prof. and Thank you Shaun.
Im an avid fan of podcasts and audiobooks and I loved this. Combining two of my favorite things. Great quality too, especially for a first episode. Im going to seriously consider the Patreon!
Incredibly well done! Thank you so much for improving Magic from so many angles. You and the people you work with have become more than pillars for this game and this community. Thank you!
Thank you so much. :) I'm so happy to be working with the Professor.
I simply LOVE the setup for this video
The Voice, The Pitch, The Story, The Atmosphere!
So damn amazing!
Take my money. Let me buy this on iTunes. Let me support this on patreon. I dont care, just take what it needs to make more of these! I love you guys, this is the kind of content this site was made for. Now let me listen to the last few minutes and sleep like a baby, goodnight from Germany :-)
Great story this is awesome it's like a book on tape.
That's the idea!
+Tolarian Community College holy wow thank you
+Tolarian Community College are you going to do all the uncharted realms?
SHAWN PENROD!! It's so great to see you two colla!!
I think The Professor is amazing and am so grateful we were able to put this together.
This is great! I couldn't read the block of text on a website. This is exactly how it should be, thank you!
I agree. I love listening to the story and thought this would be a great way to go about it.
This kind of reminds me of the ShoddyCast Fallout Storyteller... good work!
I'm am so glad this is getting this kind of attention. I listened to several times already. It's just so amazing!
This was masterfully performed and presented by all involved. I can't wait till ANY of the other Hundreds of stories from Wizards get performed!
Amazing! Thanks to everyone involved!
Haven't watched all of it yet but this is a great idea. I hope to see more in the future!
Thanks so much.

I wish I could hit the like button enough times to show how much I love this! It is insane and the production is spot on! This is great! I wish I could support you guys but I don't have the money for that right now...
Wow! That was Incredible! A big Thank You to everyone involved with this production. You were right, prof. It truly was an experience unlike any other. I hope we will be so blessed as to enjoy more like it.
I loved it. It is so much better than reading the articles. Please gives us more.
"It's dangerous to go alone; Take this"? nice.
YOU HEARD!!!!!!
YAY!!
That was me and my little easter egg. I'm so glad someone heard it. :)
This was outstanding! A great addition to the TCC lineup.
Excellent, bravo. I know this took a lot of time and effort, and it certainly shows. This is a job very well done and I'm looking forward to future installments.
how did i know it was arlinn? this is a great series and i cant wait for episode 2, i know i will fund this because i love listening to this
This is superb!
A fantastic way of telling the lore! Can't wait for the next one..

Very cool stuff, good audio production - well done!
This was such an impossibly great way to Tell the story!! I absolutely love, love, loooove this! Seems like the First patreon I'll be a Part of :D
If Magic the Gathering had audio books, this is how they should be
Please do it more!
I'm so glad you liked it. I'm looking forward to doing more as well. Check out the Patreon page to make this series a reality.
How someone can dislike this is beyond me. Great job! :) A lot of work went into this, and I appreciate it. Hopefully this is successful enough for you to produce more.
This is what I've wanted for so long! Anyways to contribute?
www.MagicTheStory.com
Go to gen doukeshi. He has Every single story in audible form
@ShaunPenrod I didn't know you did this. So cool!
That was an amazing Story! Thanks to the whole Team behind this! You are awesome! :D
This was beyond awesome, hope to hear more in the future, keep up the good work you guys!
This is absolutely great! Suggestion: Add subtitles. I would love to follow the script as the plot unfolds.
Outstanding! Thank you so much for this. Very enjoyable.
wow, this feeling...
I'm so glad you liked it.
like? love it😜
This is very well done!! Great Job!
Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it.
Nice Wright/prarie style lamp!
We need one about Phyrexia!
This is quite outstanding... A History/Lore 102 class perhaps? XD
This is the first time I've given Magic's lore a chance, and it's absolutely amazing! Is this part of the actual story or is it something you guys put together? Either way, it's really good, keep it up!
those dark ascension boxes are making my mouth water.
I’d love to listen to more of these.
Loved it. Its like u took a Seiben vid and streched it into a radio play. Love Seiben and his vids. He can make at least one a week by himself. This probably took a few weeks, and several people. Keep watching Seiben y'all, because the popularity of his vids drives others to make things like this. All in all, great vid. 👍 👍
0:54 that's an Italian Saviors of Kamigawa box!
Yes! Finally! Lore! Thank you Prof!
I was like "46 minutes? Psh." Then I listened to the entire thing. Very well done.
I love the old style radio show.
That's what we were going for. I'm glad you liked it.
This is really well done. Honestly, this is great.
This is wonderful!! Does anyone else do this? If not, you have a great unique channel advantage!
There are a few other dramatic readings, but none with actors for each part and professional sound effects. The Professor did all the visuals for youTube. Together, we have made something truly unique.
omg i fell in love Arlinn's Voice actor ^_^ she made me happy
Also cant wait for "The Gitrog Monster (Sacrifice)" audio drama :D
That one would be fun to do. :)
YES! more of this! NOW!
Hey Professor! Your videos are outstanding! I just participated in my first small tournament at my game store. I lost 0/4. But I got 2 Nahiris and in my 1st pack of Fate Reforge I got Ugin! Beginners luck perhaps? :D I don't have the cards to use these yet but I can't wait to draft/play again. Please continue your videos!
MORE! WE MUST HAVE MORE!!!!!
I'm interested on who is going to voice Avacyn and Jace for this
This is really cool and i like the professors gameplay and knowledge. There are MTG books out there you can buy for yourself and read.
That was amazing. Thank you one and all.
This was incredible! Please keep doing these!
O_O Really? Wow, I didn't expect this, so happy!
amazing!!! like an old horror story over the radio!!!
Excellent job! Looking forward to more
Congratulations! Very good! Thanks
this would be great as a podcast on SoundCloud.
I need more of this in my life...
I'm watching both this and Seiben. No need to make this a competition!
