  • Ludwig van Beethoven:
String Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 4 (with Score)
    Composed: 1795
    Performance: Endellion String Quartet
    00:00 1. Allegro con brio (E-flat major)
    10:42 2. Andante (B-flat major)
    18:16 3. Menuetto: Allegretto - Trio I & II (E-flat major - A-flat major)
    24:03 4. Finale: Presto (E-flat major)
Beethoven wrote "Octet in E-flat major, op. 103" ( • Beethoven - Octet for ... ) in 1792. He reworked and expanded the Octet in 1795 as "String Quintet in E-flat major, op. 4". The quintet has been viewed as a mere transcription of the octet. However, there are a few differences between the two works. In the first movement, there are significant changes in the exposition and substantial ones in the development, reprise, and ending. The ensuing Andante employs new themes and involves significant changes in the ones retained. The Scherzo and finale are also substantially different: among other alterations, a second trio was added to the former and a new alternate theme was inserted in the latter.

He already had a unique mind in young age. I hear Beethoven's style even he is 25 years old.

So much passion and energy in this. I love it so far even just hearing the first two minutes

We can hear thematic correlation between this and sonata op 2 n 3.

I like it better as his Wind octet Op. 103

Not a fan of the motif. Being Beethoven he repeats it all over the place .

A good point. Composing by motives might be the quickest method for beginners how to compose. What other methods do you know? I was thinking Kontrapunkt of Bach, melodies of Tsaikovsky or Stockhausen´s music, that is revolutionary!
