- The only thing that the Extreme Weapons Pack is missing is a trollface that pops up whenever you try to fire a gun. This is a Doom mod that sucks, no seriously there's a weapon in here and that's all it does, suck.

This is literally the closest thing I've found to a real life Marine Corps weapon pack. Everything malfunctions or is broken, you have a toothbrush, and a weapon cleaning kit.

It stands to reason that a real BFG 9000 should run on windows xp. Though technically windows xp didn't exist yet when doom was created.
Well, the minigun is an accurate depiction of what would happen if you tried to hipfire a minigun, at least.
Not really, the minigun is heavy enough such that the recoil isn't that bad. The problem is carrying the gun, the ammo, and the power source.
The new XM556 is perfectly possible to fire from the hip and carry around though.

It would already be unbearable to try and hold one without a sling for a long period, and firing as many full sized rifle rounds as fast as it does, would definitely make most people lose their footing. The game is exaggerating it sure, but it would definitely knock over your average person.
WIth some kind of sling it wouldn't be as bad, but still difficult.
@@coaxill4059 Well of course you're not going to want to carry a full sized minigun around without a support harness for a long period of time.
But people have fired them from the hip with no danger of falling over from recoil. Look up the FPSRussia video where he fires it from the hip. He's not carrying the power supply unit or a huge ammo pack, but he is firing a minigun by simply holding it with two hands. He's not a huge muscular guy and didn't seem to have a problem with it.
As for Physics, the heavier the gun, the less the recoil. That IS how physics works. So a full sized M134 doesn't get moved backwards much by the recoil of the rounds it fires. At least not in one fast motion that knocks you on your arse. Yes, it's firing a lot of them. That continually pushes the gun backwards relatively slowly compared to, for example, firing a .50 BMG round. You mostly need to adjust for the gun moving away from where you're trying to aim it. You aren't going to get blasted backwards and fall over, unless you weren't standing and holding it properly.
Keeping it on target is the problem. Falling over or doing a 180 degree spin, not so much.

@@DGneoseeker1 @DGneoseeker1 I think you misunderstand what I meant. I'm aware that a gun being heavy will require more energy to move due to inertia, but a minigun is firing A LOT and the sheer rate of fire will quickly overcome that weight in almost no time at all. You can very clearly see what I mean in the ballistics gel video, where even a relatively short burst gave the man quite a shove.
Now these weapons are using rifle caliber ammunition. In DOOM, it's hard to say what the Minigun is meant to be since it was based off a toy. In the game mechanics, it fires pistol ammo. But the sprite appears to have barrels thicker than that of the shotgun, which leads me to believe that it's meant to be a .50 or larger. As far as I'm aware the original game never explained exactly what cartridge it's meant to use, though it does have a pistol grip implying it's meant to be handheld.
Moving past that though, just looking at it the one thing that should be obvious is that the weapon is nuts. Something that simply could not exist in the way that it does in real life. I'd argue that with this in mind, this parody mod does a good job of presenting that fact. While no gun would fling someone off into space like this thing seems to. I think it's fair to say that it is actually more reasonable to have excessive push than none whatsoever.
Considering that, it seems an especially odd reply to say that the recoil of a ridiculous aircraft cannon with a pistol grip wouldn't be that bad actually. I get that the commenter said "A minigun" but personally I don't think he was talking about the XM556 or even a M134D. I think without much thought or hesitation, he looked at the minigun in the game and instinctively knew it was insane, and like me he was happy to see that it's truly ridiculous nature was represented in a mod.
For the record, I appreciate your consideration and civility.

I made it as far as the Gantlet with this mod on UV. However, it wasn't frustration that made me quit, but the boredom. It's actually possible to get through the game (although not beat the final boss) with this if you're very patient and know the limitations of the weapons. i.e. With the pistol, never let go of the trigger until everything is dead, so that you have time to wait out the animation.
I have tested, and the final boss IS possible to beat. Given the rockets actually explode a while after they hit the ground, you just have to wait for them to go off while it's inside the final boss' brain. Basically, pop off rockets into the brain and stay alive long enough till the impact. It's pretty much just launching time bombs into the final boss.
Assuming no air enemies get in the way, yes. The rockets in this mod fly until it hits an enemy or wall.

In my experience, the basic shotgun is the most interesting weapon. It basically deals infinite damage (the spread can kill multiple cyberdemons in one shot), but the higher level the difficulty you go, the slower it fires. Icarus seemed to be playing at level 2 and it takes him an average of ~10 clicks or so to fire it. When I played on UV, it takes ~100 click in average!
As a result, I beat Plutonia Map 32 (go 2 it) with ONLY the basic shotgun. (In fact other weapons are totally useless...) Something I would do once and never come back. As FrozenWolf puts it -- boredom.
and the toothbrush was a COLGATE, perfect for all monsters

As a bit of a doom perfectionist I feel I must tell you that you perpetually miss two additional secrets in the first level there. Running off of the secret in the big room(where you hit the button to open the outside area) and landing on/skipping across the raised floor vent opens a rocket launcher secret in the small round room with the blue potions. Also running quickly from there to the outside area there is a floor trigger in the hall which opens a door to the right of the imp cage that usually contains armor. Just a little FYI. Yes I know this video is over a year old.

This is the kind of great joke mod I would love to see in every game possible, especially the entire Doom series.
Imagine this in Doom 3, or even Doom 4, oh the great, weird creativity one could put into making each, useless weapon for those games, the mind boggles, and giggles.
I just wanted to say that I love your videos dude. I've probably downloaded almost all of these mods you've mentioned and had soo much fun :D I recommend checking out Doom Center at one point as it has a lot to offer.

Plasma rifle (vacuum cleaner) can sometimes shoot a wave of plasma and Insta kill. Shotgun, tooth brush and pistol are your only good weapons.

I feel like the tragedy of this mod is that most of the weapon concepts are individually actually not bad jokes, but the fact that once you get down to it almost every joke is "It's slow" means that the actually funny bits (Doomguy polishing his nails then giving a 'just right' symbol, half a super shotgun that sends your view spinning, etc.) are overshadowed by tedium
That vacuum thing would be pretty useful in a ghostbusters mod.
First level has a secret rocket launcher. The room with the tiny health open upp when you land on the grey box under the elevator.

Icarus you should check a doom wad called DoomRL Arsenal + the monster pack for it.
It's based around the game called DOOM Roguelike and it's ton of fun specially on co-op.
It has a lot of new weapon (the old ones are redesign to) and new gameplay features.

You have to admit thought as terrible as it is to play it is very well animated and made. Yes its shit from a playing standpoint but from a technical standpoint its quite impressive all the new sprites and stuff and causing effects like spinning you 180 degrees.
