      He might. Carter was very good though for Philly... that said, Murphy/Witherspoon will allow Seattle to operate better under MacDonald... partly because Spoon can probably play ANY role in the secondary (he can already do DB1, DB2, nickel, box - and I wouldn't be shocked if he takes snaps at safety). And then Murphy is far more easy to rotate than Carter... he already has 3tech/NT experience and was double teamed non-stop in College.

      @tommyjames2448 Před 10 dny

      @chrissears5482 the reports all showed McVay wanting to give up whatever it takes to get Bowers or Murphy. Snead wasn't willing to go past a certain price. So yeah, they didn't really try to go up seriously if the best offer they could give was giving up their 19 - and 2nd rd pick to move up 9 spots to 10 NYJ. The reports make it look like McVay was telling Snead give me one of those 2 and Snead going "I hear you but I'm not going to take your request that serious" if that is the best offer they could muster. So yeah, this is the beginning of an eventual divorce that'll happen in the next 3-5 years with 1 or both of them in LA.

    • @aa-ze5cz
      @aa-ze5cz Před 10 dny

      @@tommyjames2448 I mean who knows the full story... but yah if your GM and coach aren't aligned it creates a problem. That's what happened with John/Pete towards the end there.
      Also stings further for the Rams because a division rival got them.. and McVay knows full well what MacDonald is going to do with that defense... their days of just exploiting Pete's stupid cover 3 soft zone is over... and he knows that Murphy is by far the best DL in the draft that fits what MacDonald wants to do.
      Last year MacDonald really only moved the safeties around. This year he can move the DL around (Reed 1tech/3tech/NT, Williams 3tech/5tech/NT - being asked to learn 6 positions now on the DL, Murphy 3tech/NT - all 3 have experience with double teams), and if Dodson/Baker are good to go he can move those around. Jones is also being tasked with EDGE and we already know he can do 5tech. So now in theory Mac can rotate all 3 'lines' on D.. Love can do SS/Nickel/Box, Jenkins can do SS/FS, Witherspoon can basically do everything, and I wouldn't be surprised if he lines up at safety...
      The big area Seattle was STILL lacking (Hankins is just a true NT) was IDL.... and McVay knows Seattle solving that problem with Macs scheming is going to be a nightmare to gameplan against. And Murphy commanded double teams non-stop in NCAAF and still beat them. McVay's defense is nowhere complex as MacDonalds but he knew Murphy has the technique/moves/skillsets and raw power to be a DECENT replacement for Donald (if that's a thing).

    Rams DID build their current team using the draft--just not using their first round picks. The "F*** the Draft" strategy only works because the Rams draft better in the later rounds than most teams. Just look to last year's draft and see how many studs they drafted and developed after day one: Avila, Byron Young, Kobie Turner, and of course Puka. Kyren was a 5th rounder in 2022.

    This little rant has nothing to do with the Seahawks drafting Byron or me hating on the Seahawks because even though im a rams fan i rooted for the Seahawks back in the legion of boom days before the rams came back to LA because i liked Pete Carol and always respected the Seahawks.
    I think Byron could be very great for the Seahawks and yes the Rams wanted him but he was number 2 on their list, the first they really wanted was Brock Bowers and they wanted him first before the raiders ultimately took him. Jared Verse was number 3 on there list and they even say that in behind the grind episode 2 (draft day) because when they drafted Jared verse they said he was in there top 3 and was the only one remaining and couldn't believe he fell to them.
    In all seriousness How can you talk about a divisional rival and act like you know them and tell people lies because you obviously don't know the rams, les snead or McVay ?
    1) The rams success isn't based on drafting? What in the hell are you smoking because it must be good. We haven't had a first round pick in 7 years!! yet we have had the best record in the NFC West and have been to 2 Superbowls since mcvay has been coaching, how do you think that is ? Cooper kupp, Aaron Donald, todd Gurley, tyler higbee, greg the leg, jared Goff, van Jefferson, taylor rapp, jordan fuller, greg gains and way more all draft picks. Yes we trade first round picks like nothing for Ramsey and Stafford because we can because we draft well in the late rounds and yes we get free agents like OBJ and Von miller because we are a good team but our success is definitely based on our draft, who won Superbowl MVP ? Kupp a third rounder.
    2) les snead is a huge risk taker in the draft and free agency ñ. In 2019 the rams had a first round pick and they traded down in that draft and picked Taylor rapp in the second round. If the rams want someone they will literally throw the kitchen sink to get them. They did that for Stafford, ramsey and even did it for this draft for Braden fiske in the second by giving up 2025 second round pick. Les can do this because we draft well in late rounds and they have solid youth in every position. What round was puka again ? 5th
    3) i think both teams did well in this draft and i think it was a blessing in disguise for the rams but also great for the Seahawks. like i said i think Byron will be great for the Hawks but the rams pivited and still got one of the top 3 guys they wanted. Immediately after they drafted Jared they wanted his teammate Fiske for DT because they believe alone they both are very good players but together they are way better. That is why they went all out in the second round and everyone in the media gave them crap for giving too much for Fiske but the rams don't care, they never do and will do anything to get the guys they want, because they believe in their scouts to draft late rounders and find undrafted gems like there starting Left Tackle Alaric Jackson who was sixth in pass protection for a left tackle.
    I know McVay and Snead were upset he couldn't get Bowers or Byron but they were also very excited to get Jared and Fiske and you can see it on CZcams (behind the grind episode 2 draft day).
    I think Verse and Fiske are going to create a monster D-line to go along with Turner and Young who had 17 sacks together as rookies last season, also brown who is a great run defensive DT. Those 5 will be a problem for years and people will see starting next season.
    On a side note kobie Turner who led all rookies in sacks (9 sacks) also had the most double teams when rushing the QB on the rams and led all rookies for most double teams last season. So i think the rams will be just fine without Aaron Donald.

    Not comparing Murphy to Donald, but only to say that it makes sense the Rams would want him after Donald retires. He was the best player at that position with that skillset in the draft, again not saying he will be as good as Donald, but the playstyle would have allowed the Rams to keep on trucking. Thinking about it now, we got lucky to get Murphy and it really all started when Atlanta took Penix. If Murphy is even half as good as Donald it is going to be such a massive improvement for the entire line, the rest of the guys are going to have success (or vice versa) off of it.

      @@jameslarson319 I don't get Brendon's comments on why he wasn't excited about Murphy - ESPECIALLY given 1) MacDonald - where Murphy already does 3tech/NT and was double teamed non-stop in NCAAF and still found a way to win. Yes he needs to clean up FINISHING plays (lot of missed sack opps) but hurrying/pressure is there period... 2) Yes we got Hankins, but we needed more DL depth. I was absolutely BAFFLED last year we went in with Reed/Jones and a bunch of late round guys lol.
      Danlow aying Fiske/Verse is better than Murphy or they had a better draft is ridiculous (Seattle got the best pure guard in the draft which was another steal). Also I don't know where the hell Brendon thinks Latu would've been there at 19 or should not have been a top 20 pick. Yes the health concern, 3 years ago... when Latu played both seasons full time over the last 2 years. In addition, Latu not only has good size/speed, but his technique is BY FAR the best EDGE rushing in the draft and I would say over the last few years as well... it's not even close. The guy is a pass rush MONSTER and his technique 100% translates to the NFL. Combined with strength/speed you turn into a pass rush nightmare.... and Latu has both.
      That's the reason Donald was the best IDL in NFL history. Not only was his speed/strength off the charts, but Donald played with incredible technique. Murphy does the same, although not quite to the degree Donald did when he tested/came out. Murphy still has a ceiling though, he's not at it. If he can clean up some of his pursuit and angles once he beats the OL (which he did all the time in College, hell he routinely beat two of them) he can be a monster to deal with... and that's easier to clean up than learning a new tech on the line or hand placement/moves (which he already has).
      I honest to God thought Latu would go #8 to the Falcons. If the Rams had sniped Murphy and Seattle passed on Latu (we're fairly decent on EDGE if Hall can get going - he was a borderline 1st round pick) I would've been PISSED.

      What are talking about? That’s is a good trade offer usually the standard is a 3rd round pick to trade back 5 spots in the first round but this was 4 spots so it was fair, the Rams should of never included the 5th round pick 😂

    All this tells me is that NFL teams might know a little bit more about scouting players than you do. LMFAO

    I wasn't surprised Latu went at 15... I thought the Falcons were taking him at 8... Latu has the health concern, but that was 3 years ago - he played full time the last two seasons. Also, he is by FAR the best pure EDGE rusher in the draft. It's not just speed/agility, etc. his hand technique from College will 100% translate and be effective day 1 in the NFL... that's the hardest part about being a good EDGE is the technique/moves. You can be the fastest/strongest guy out there but if you don't have the techniques, it wont work at the NFL level... and Latu already has it.
    Baffling to me Brendon you didn't think Latu would go top 20... I thought he'd go top 10. Frankly the Colts and Seahawks got the two best defensive players in the draft and BOTH should've gone top 10, but the class was too loaded with offensive skill positions and OL to pair with younger QBs.
    Latu would not have been there at 19.. hell Seattle prob. would've taken him.. and I would've been fine with that if Murphy was off the board.

    Murphy has the traits you are looking for. That are star traits. doesn't mean it plays out on the field. The draft is about drafting traits. The more you have the higher you get drafted. He was rated the best defensive player in the draft by most everyone who has a working brain cell. What he could end up doing is game wrecking in the NFL. Again you draft traits. Murphy has the traits. If you watch the film, it shows you the traits. How you can think otherwise shows why you are on the net doing this instead of working in the NFL:) You are pretty much clueless most of the time.

    The scouts I've read about, say Murphy was almost as good as A Donald. We'll see, but he he's starting, which is a good thing.
