I guess it makes sense because of the work-life culture in Japan. It seems mainland East Asian women in general are a bit more reserved, therefore being approached online is safer than in-person.

I did 8 years in the navy and never took the opportunity to go to Japan. And it became something I really regretted.
also learn japanese, not learning japanese or speaking conversational will seriously help if you don't speak any Japanese you are playing on handicap mode.
So Bumble is what you recommend? Good to know. I was thinking I would try JapanCupid but her other video stated the ratio of men to women is 90/10. That is pretty bad odds for men, great for women.

It feels regrettable, doesn’t it? I wonder how life was in Japan before the Internet. I’m an American (I haven’t been to Japan). Many of us Americans stubbornly continue to try to live in the real world and meet people in the real world. I’m a single man, and my fantasy is to meet my wife in a chance encounter in a supermarket. My dad met my mom when she was buying a newspaper. He happened to walk by at the time, thought she was pretty, and stopped to talk to her. I still have an instinct in me that makes me feel men should meet women in this way.
Just stick with your own way then. In the end it doesn't matter where you meet when you find the one.
It was an easier and more peaceful period for sure, but it has passed. And longing for it causes you nothing but pain. Look to the future and implement the things you mentioned in your comment into the real life situation.

Your father's generation had no other options. He didn't have a marriage match maker, or the internet at that time. So the guys had to grow some balls and take a chance on talking to a woman in person to get her (house) phone number. And unlike dating apps, he usually didn't know if the woman was available or has a boyfriend/husband already. Your gen can still do it now, but don't have the balls nor the desire to learn the communication skill of approach and small talk. Once I learned it, my body count shot up to triple digits.
It's regrettable that I can't get an arranged marriage like my great-grandfather. The times they are a-changing.

This is a refreshing take with data backing up your arguments, but I find dating apps work if you're a Japanese looking to date another Japanese. I'm a foreigner myself and had been using the apps for quite some time now, and I would argue the apps are skinner boxes aimed at men.
Sadly dating in general is a skinny boxes for men weather on dating apps or not.
But a lot of international couples in Japan definitely use online dating tools. So I strongly believe this is the way to maximize your chances.
Before I even watch this video I just need to say, thank you for actually saying that we should date in Japan. Because I fucking hate when people say "oh you shouldn't date Japanese women". NO!!!! what you shouldn't do is go to another country with no knowledge of the culture and expect things to be the same as they are in your country.
The apps are the most likely for success in Japan. I agree with this.

Asagi, there is growing concern over this "ai" stuff. My spidey sense is tingling and I sense much danger to come, especially with dating apps. Maybe this would be a good topic to explore and find ways for people to protect themselves against potential scams or harm? I’m sad that COVID changed the social situation in Japan. I had so much better luck before COVID, both online and in person. I’ve found that because there are so many people using dating apps now that it’s too concentrated. Definitely think Japanese apps are better than bumble or tinder. I have very few matches on those two. I’ve found that with women, they tend to get hella matches, which seems great at first, but they have so many that they have trouble going through all the messages, especially when many of them are boring or uninspired conversations from men.
On the other hand, unless men are in the top percent - very good looking, we don’t get as many matches anymore.
I'm not shy at all! If I was shy I wouldn't have met my husband (British). I met him on a dating site.

months ago, I went to the video of a site called italki. i was doing a section where i explained why japanese people don't make good friends and a weird japanese girl was answering me, who is from osaka. she explains that a number of Japanese people are attracted to foreigners. but she never explains how we could meet them. she made other answers, every time someone talks about a dating site, the girl said that it's not possible, that the Japanese avoid answers from foreigners... I didn't understand. I followed her on her channel recently to talk about it, but my comments aren't showing up. is it a cookie issue? I would like to talk about this with someone reasonable, who does not know me, without bad faith. this is not a troll, please can someone explain this girl's problem to me?

Chance encounters as encouraged by many are a waste and highly useless, women have work,busy with errands, want to be alone strolling, waiting on friends or just minding their own business. The idea of just interrupting someone is not a good idea, with a dating app the intentions are clear and it's direct. If a chance encounter finds it way then that is good but it should not be used as a means to ignore dating apps.Back in the days it was arranged marriages, a priest to get someone from a church times have changed or a friend would introduce you through a friends but Dating apps are a Godsent for those who thinks of the future! .
dating apps work fine for me no matter what country i am in, never heard about it being a scam, ofc there are some fake profiles but gotta ignore them

So many sources on google. Most the apps you need to speak japanese and have a japanese id to use the apps as most wont accept passports. Tinder require a verification as well. Apps i used are bumble which has been more successful for me. Hinge is a hit or miss. And cupidjapan works but mostly older women over 40
I will certainly need some advice whenever I move back to Japan full time.

If it works, fine. But 15 years of it, using Japanese and Western apps, with basically no matches I guess not for me. On Western apps, 90% is single mom Filipinas, etc. On Japanese apps, mostly profile pics that hide their faces. No interest in a profile that doesn't even like itself.

I never had any luck with dating apps. I learnt to speak Japanese, watching and listening to it from anime, I am weak in Katakana and Kanji, but I can verbally at least hold a conversation. Yesterday in my workplace, I happened to come across Japanese people in cafeteria, and I managed to hold an actual conversation with them, I couldn't dare to exchange mail address though since I was a stranger to them nonetheless.
Does it, increase my chances of finding a date in Japan, online? I am Indian though so I understand there is a negative stigma in general, unless I am mistaken of course...

1. You are not matching with talkative women.
2. You are not providing the atmosphere for them to be talkative.
