- Well, It's been a while since I talked about Sly Cooper. Specifically, Sly 5. The unfortunate news is that Sly Cooper 5 MIGHT Have Been Canceled... I am still unsure but Sucker Punch made a statement that really hit this theory train hard. But, I'm not drawing any conclusions.... yet.

If this is true. Then I will be very mad at Sony because this would be the third time a sly cooper sequel game was canceled. Frist being the Vigil Games psp game and Sly Cooper: Network of Thieves. Match that with the Movie and the TV Show disappearing out of nowhere and I would be extremely mad at Sony for treating this franchise like otter dirt

I would agree, but I looked at how sucker punch spoke about the announcement and from how it sounds....I'd say they likely have a veto on sly projects and after Sly 4 they're killing anything that starts up but doesn't look like it will be good enough to live up to the original trilogy.
Well hoping and praying by next year we get some information on sly cooper 5 or a trailer at e3 2023 bc now it been far too long for this cliffhanger of sly cooper too go on any further it need to end or give the right to make sly cooper 5 to another game company

@@zaperzero If the implication is that Sucker Punch didn't like Sly 4, then that's flat out wrong. They approved of it and even used it for their Sly references in Infamous: Second Son.
It’s also possible maybe the project was just straight up put on hold till further notice, due to some reason involving the developer working on it. In that case, Sucker Punch would be right by saying that none were being worked on NOW. Maybe it isn’t being worked on now for some internal reason, and wasn’t cancelled at least fully.

That's a good point. This wouldn't be the first time in recent history that fans looked at wording along the lines of "its a priority but not for right now since we got other stuff in the works to come out first" and interpreted it as "this series is deader than elvis".

At my most optimistic, there has been initial work on a Sly Cooper but had to be scrapped for × reason(s) and they're starting from scratch on a new Sly project. But it's more likely that it was just cancelled outright. Which is a shame... I'd love to see Sly Cooper come back. If there's nothing at The Game Awards then at least I'll have some closure.

It was all rumors before but I’m still holding out hope for sly cooper to return, it needs to and we deserve another new game or 2 after so long, it’s very loved and deserves a comeback indeed, plus sly is still stuck in ancient Egypt, they can’t leave it on a cliffhanger like that
Also i came up with what the story could be for it, it would start with sly in ancient egypt and meeting the slytunkhamens and take on there enemy who is a female spinx cat trying to rule egypt, and while there dealing with that, clockwerk found the remaining time travel parts to leparadox blimp and attach it to himself to his mechanical body to travel through time to try to take down the cooper family, but the time traveling parts are still very damaged clockwerk can only travel to a few timelines at a time, but during its activation bentleys got a reading on what time its coming from and he, murray, and carmelita all travel to egypt and find and reunited with sly after he helped slytenkhamen beat the spinx villain and they saw clockwerk with the time traveling gear and follow him to stop him before he damages the timeline and they travel to all the timelines clockwerk end up in like ancient scotland where the gang meets slaigh cooper and help take on a male badger villain, the colonial Caribbean sea circa 1616 AD with henriette one eye cooper and battle a male pirate gorilla, victorian era london with thaddeus winslow cooper the 3rd and fight a male fancy rat villain, the european netherlands with ottovan cooper and take on a male or female osprey, falcon, wild boar or a european pine marten, one of them, and then the final level they end up back home to take on ancient clockwerk and prevent him from changing history and sly and the gang get a little help from sly coopers father to stop clockwerk and put everything back the way it was before and wraps up the time travel storyline.
Why a sphinx and not Clockwerk? Tunkhamen was canonically the first Cooper stalked by the hateful owl meaning the Egyptian timeline would be the perfect time to reveal the truth behind Clockwerk's hatred as I feel it's more than rivalry.
@@azurengamer9392 true and clockwerk would be the main villain of the whole game, but with different timelines there should be other villains to fight especially ones and species that fit in the timelines like the spinx in Egypt
@@johnmichael2692 I'm not saying there shouldn't be other villains just that I think Clockwerk should be the big bad of the Egyptian level given how that's canonically his origin point, in the first game Clockwerk says some interesting things like how his immortality is fueled by "vengeance", him mentioning how empathy was one of the Cooper family's greatest weakness, and...butter cup flowers for some reason, personally I would be more interested on the origin of Clockwerk's spiral into hate fueled madness than some random cat doing generic evil stuff.

It was probably not the leaks, it was probably something else, hard to know what it could be exactly, there are multiple possibilities.
Isn't it more likely that the leaks were never real in the first place or that the game was never really far in development anyways? You'd be shocked how many proposed pitches get cancelled constantly. Sure only some of them end up leaking in any way which makes them feel super significant but the reality of the situation is that 99% of game pitches never even get greenlit and a lot of the ones that do rarely make it far before being shelved for something else before the public really knows what is going on.
@@SomniaCE I think it must be at least a descent time of development, because, there has been a lot of hints of sly cooper in playstation presenations. maybe not too far in development, but definetly a descent time.

@@SomniaCE It could be, but it's strange that every single thing teased become a game, and sony did stuff like that before, there was a playstation presentation in the past with a reference to crash returning a while before n sane trilogy got even revealed. so, sony really do this kinda of stuff to tease new games.
I know that someone (don’t know whether it is Shigeru Miyomoto or someone else) said a delayed game is eventually good but a rushed game is forever bad, but the thing is not all delayed games end up being good, and sometimes if they take too many years, they just get forgotten by the players, just because they are no longer excited for it. If a person waited for 8- 16 years or 2 decades for something to happen, they might not be interested in it anymore. Timing is everything, you can’t release a game too soon, but you also can’t wait too long before making it ready for the general public.
I also hate Cliffhangers, because if the Cliffhanger does not get resolved then it leaves the series of whatever people made the cliffhanger on end on an unsatisfactory note. Yes I would be disappointed if Video Games ended after just a few games with no cliffhanger, but I feel that would be better than if a Game ends on a Cliffhanger after the same amount of games games and the resolution to the Cliffhanger never comes. Still I would prefer a Game Franchise I love to keep going strong.
I will be very sad if Sly Cooper and the Cooper Clan family goes extinct because he no longer get any more games.

I'm replaying the whole series rn on Playstation Plus and I would die for a sequel!! Look how well Crash 4 and Ratchet and Clank did. I really do hope they do something with the franchise. there's so much potential :(
I don't know I really do believe Sucker Punch is lying to fan the flames of the rumors of Sly Cooper coming back, it's happened before at Sony with that 2012 Twisted Metal game prior to it getting released by a year or so where you had one of the main lead devs actually do what Sucker Punch is doing right now, honestly Sly Cooper's comeback is inevitable I do firmly believe Sony is cooking something, I'm just shocked no one has decided to fill in the void with a Sly Cooper like game from an Indie dev of sorts during his hiatus.

I think that the reason why Sony hasn’t announced a come back of Sly Cooper is because they really wanted to save it for The PlayStation Showcase which it was going to happen last month, but it was delayed. The reason is that Sony is eyeing on the Microsoft/Activision deal. Sony wanted to have exclusive content for Call of Duty. Microsoft says that there will be content coming to PlayStation and other platforms. This is my guess. It’s still up on the cards for Sly Cooper’s return. I also think that there is something behind the scenes at Sony’s development studios.
you actually believe all this bullsh*t? Microsoft doesn't run PlayStation number one. Sony does. #2 we have way better deals than Sony does. I don't understand why Sony PlayStation just doesn't reach out to game companies and buys them out like we do.

It's very frustrating, for sure. I'm a very specific kind of gamer, the only reason I own a PS3 is because of Sly 4 and I was hoping for history to repeat itself whenever I decide to buy a PS5. Call me stubborn or hopelessly optimistic, but I'm adamant about sticking to that principle, no matter how many other great games I miss out on.
Take Ratchet and Clank for example. People seemingly got mad there wasn't anything announced at the 20th anniversary of that series, and all I could do was to roll my eyes and think "You've got a lot of gall to complain, you got a new game in 2021 whereas some franchises haven't had one since 2013!"
Just to be clear, I like Ratchet and Clank. But I'm also extremely jealous about that series being kept alive through passion from the creators and also being a big cash cow whereas Sly can't even get a proper conclusion due to all kinds of unlucky breaks.

I want to be honest, after Sly 3, I didn't like subsequent Sucker Punch games anymore. The Infamous series never really hit me, while Ghost Of Tsushima found it boring and repetitive, with bosses that all looked the same and with slow and uncomfortable combat mechanics. These are my personal opinions of course, nothing official. The Sly series is one of my absolute favorites, I still play all 4 chapters, because they are fun, varied, original and never bore me despite having played them several times. I really want a Sly 5, for 3 reasons: (1) Because I love that series. (2) Because on PS we need new Quality Platform Games. (3) Because I don't accept the ending of the fourth game and I expect a fair ending for the series. If Sucker Punch wants to make a GOT 2, I certainly won't buy it, while if they did a Sly 5, I'd be overjoyed to buy it.

I'll be even more than happy to buy the Sly 5 game for my ps3 because the 4th game was a thumbs down for me in my opinion. I'm just hoping that the 5th game would better and that I'll get to see Sly's father Conner Cooper in the 5th game.🤔
It's also possible it was just a massive miscommunication.
The leakers are only as reliable as their source and without further details on why their source knows this information, there's no way to guarantee that it's reliable and not just a misattributed assumption.
The other consideration is that a future release being discussed or planned isn't necessarily the same as a game being developed, which could be a reason the source got it wrong. It could be that plans were initiated, but it never got past that stage. The logo being teased could be caused by Sony jumping the gun or by something causing plans to fall through after the reveal but before development actually began.
I'd rather have Sly turn up dead than have that cliffhanger without a conclusion
Tbh I think they’re hiding something, but it may have started but be put on pause to work on some other projects, so that statement they put out might not be them saying it was canned, but just put on hold

If we dont hear anything at TGAs, the projects were canned. There was way too much smoke for this to not be a thing. So it's either done or the announcement was pushed back.
The best chance of a new Sly Cooper game is to wait until after Sucker Punch's project (which is Ghost of Tsushima 2) which could be years from now
Sony seems to be on a buzz re-releasing their titles on Steam. Perhaps we could get the Sly trilogy + Thieves in time, ported there too?
If they are afraid to make sly 5 why not remaster the first 3 games? A lot of people loved them. Myself included. After that maybe they could put it up to a vote with the fans or they could ask us what we liked or didn't like about sly 4 so they could improve or don't repeat the same mistakes. I enjoyed all the Sly games the only thing I didn't care for is the ice age one. I like Bob. I just wish we would have seen one of Sly's ancestors we know about. Sly's story need finished. I would also like to meet the rest of sly's ancestors.

I like Bob too, but the other ancestors were terrible. I don't like Carmelita because she's horrible.☹ I just wish that they retcon her atrocious behavior and attitude as well as the ancestors' terrible behavior and their attitudes because it makes the game way less enjoyable.🙁👎

I have a theory what if they did the same way they did with Crash bandicoot they do a collation of the games with thieves in time and then we might get sly 5. I figure way for Sly to get home since Sly got stranded in ancient Egypt he met his ancestor Slytunkhamen telling him about doing a book so he can pass his skills to his children and their children and on and on. this give Sly a idea he told Slytunkhamen who he really was soon Sly wrote a note in the book so that his friends in the future will known where he is and come for him. then Sly might learn how Clockwerk made the hate chip and try to stop him before it happens.
I found a story online about Sly 5 plot on a fandom this is a fan made story called Sly Cooper 5: Heart of a Thief but it's really interesting and this involves both Sly and Carmelita's families
In my point of view, the only thing that we can conclude is that the game is NOT in development Right Now, but it might be planed
Could it be possible that when they say the game "was" in development, it could be a sneaky way of saying that they finished development and are just waiting for the best time to reveal the finished product for hype? It could also be that the game had finished development, but the TV series is still in development, and they want them to be released in tandum with each other.
I feel like they probably HAVE been trying to develop a new game, but they probably keep getting stuck on the story line/plot direction, and keep shelving it to focus on other games that are actually making progress. It may be other things too, but probably something in that, or actually putting the concept into reality is stumping them
It has happened before. Not from infamous, but i remember "there is no new hardware coming" two weeks before the nintendo 3ds reveal. This has also happened with games before. In fact, it happens all over the place for rumored but not announced titles that later prove real or cancelled, like factor 5's rayman 4
Sucker Punch never said that they are completely done with Sly Cooper, they said they have no plans to revisit it right now. Meaning there is always a possibility they could revisit the series in the future. Im so upset at Sony why they completely abandoned Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter, why does rachet and Clank continue to get new games

My theory would be they are having a pc port of the remake trilogy since they are porting quite a few famous games to pc recently

There was way too many hints and evidence towards this. Sucker Punch found out about the cancellation and made the post about nothing Sly or infamous coming up to not get fans hopes up any further..

I wish SuckerPunch Studio didn't cancelled Sly Cooper franchise for the 5th video game if he's stuck ancient Egyptian times, but we all love Sly Cooper in our hearts he's our beloved ringtail with all his stealth, techniques, and had help with his team reclaim the pages from his father's book of ancestors, especially missed being chased by Carmelita Fox when she found a photo of Sly and herself that show he really cared about her in his heart, and I respected their masterpiece of art since mid 2000's, I may not play or heard of Sly Cooper as a kid on the old PlayStation, and I respected the Cooper fans draw art of Sly and Carmelita as a couple, I wish the story as a finale where he meets great grandfather in Egypt and helps away back home to the present and sends a message to his friends and Carmelita that he's trapped in the past who needs his help and then reunited with his friends and Carmelita Fox

knowing Sony in general it's 50/50 on the game being canceled/ Sucker Punch just being left out of the loop.
Projects get shelved when they get into production issues or disputes; I work with one of the animators who worked on that Sly film trailers, and he said that got canned for higher up dispute reasons and bad management calls. Really big shame, but isn't uncommon, especially for new IPs we have never or will never hear of

Over the years I have slowly been reaching the point where I don't feel surprised when Sly projects get put back or cancelled, don't get me wrong I really don't want to feel this way nor do I want to sound negative but I'm no longer gonna hold my breath hoping for news about a new Sly game only to be disappointed.
If one day we actually do get a new game whether it's the OG Trilogy remade or Sly 5 actually comes out then great I'm all for it
This is why I'm glad I went back to Xbox and PC. Can't afford nor find a PS5, and even if I did, it's too much of a big ass console... with literally a big ass. Besides Sony is like "it's all about me!" now, whereas Microsoft appears to be "It's all about the players" and they are willing to give the players what they want based on demand, not popularity.

My takeaway from this information is that Sucker Punch Productions paused development on a fifth Sly Cooper game until further notice. If I'm right, that would be FANTASTIC!!! If I'm wrong, I wouldn't be angry in the slightest.

At playstation showcase, they should at least give the fans a logo teaser to say that a game is in development in secret, so that fans know that sly cooper is relevant again and it will be back in some year.

My gut feeling is telling me that they're just saying nothing is being worked on as of right now to draw away attention cause I think Sucker Punch (or whoever has the rights now) wants this comeback to be bigger than ever and get everyone hyped for it

These sly cooper rumors kind of feels like the Donkey Kong rumors that happened in 2021.
Even then, there are lots of things different in which Dk will have another game and it will be announced at the right time since there was a trademark renewed for DK months ago. But for sly cooper, there was nothing, the only thing why one of the people in Sucker Punch dispelled the rumors on the new sly game because of what happened when the rumors started. Everyone expectations were very high, everyone was thinking of a 3D Donkey Kong game was in development, and when they heard that dk might get another 2D game, people were not excited for that and wants to skip that game, and then when E3 2021 came and gone, the new Dk game wasn't announced, everyone were disappointed and then talks about DK went down.
And the DK game they did get is Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania 😂

6:55 Weird yes, but I wouldn't compare that to the Mario movie - Ian James Corlett isn't a celebrity, but my guess for that change was the movie being made by Rainmaker, like the Ratchet movie. Still, I have no clue why that choice was made or if it was even going to stick.

Sucker Punch: There is no new Sly Cooper in development (closes doors) because... foolish players, it's already finished being developed.
Sly cooper was the last game i got for my ps2 b4 getting the xbox 360. The copy of the game i had was scratched when i got it and crashed around the 3rd to 4th level, i was never able to beat it but i loved the game so much and always wished it would come to xbox same for spyro, which eventually came true when reignited came out on other platforms

I don't know, I lean more to the idea of Sony making a Sly Cooper game without Suckerpunch's consent. While Suckerpunch did make the game franchise, it is still a Sony property and Sony can do whatever they want with it as they see fit. I say this because with Microsoft making big purchases on Activision-Blizzard and even getting Hideo Kojima (the creator of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and Death's Stranding) to make an Xbox Exclusive title, Sony might get desperate.
I guess Sly is fated to be trapped forever in ancient Egypt.

Well there is one other possibility they said the game's not in development they didn't say that the game wasn't made it could be that the game is already done and they're holding off on it.

Why would Sucker Punch know if another studio is developing a game? They’re no longer involved so how can they say anything with any kind of confidence?

Honestly ive been thinking the same thing myself for months due to i havent seen anything news which breaks my heart because i wish to see a new game but even now almost may and still nothing more been said except fan specuilations of when the game coming out then i beleive it safe to say no however it hard to beleive fan pages saying it comin out in September of this year or late November but please tell me if im wrong here

I might have an theory.
Recently, PS has been making a push to put their games on Steam, Horizon, God of War, And most recently, Sackboy: A huge adventure.
Maybe SP are working to port the Sly franchise onto Steam.
They're not "Developing" a new Sly or Infamous game, They're porting it.
Now this is a double edged sword for us, Yes, There is no new Sly game coming out. But, Don't forget what happened before Thieves in Time. SP released the Sly collection, And by beating all 3 games, You got a secret reward: A teaser for Sly 4.
They might, MIGHT, *MIGHT,* be repeating history. Bring out a new remaster for PS5 and Steam of the 4 games, Then hint at a continuation as a reward for beating all 4 games.
Am I theorising: Yes, Am I engaging in wishful thinking: Yes, Is everything I just said true: 99% chance Not. But hey, A man can dream.
The games are already ported on PS5 via the new subscription service sadly only via streaming its still the same

Let's go back in time to when _Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time_ was released (no pun intended).
Sanzaru basically came out of nowhere and decided to make Sly 4, and they did a very good job by the way...But, why did they stop right after that? As years went by, and 2013 is now basically a whole Decade ago; I ask myself why Sanzaru only made 1 Sly game.
Honestly, I first thought that they were going to make a whole new trilogy, and that at least _Sly 5_ and _Sly 6_ where guaranteed. But it turns out that Sly 4 was their first and last game. Why?
I mean, think about it...Right now, Sly 4 is actually even more old than Sly 3 was at the time of Sly 4 in 2013. So, we have had a much longer limbo after 4 than we did after _Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves_ which came back in 2005.
So that is my question: why a company appears, makes Sly 4, and then doesn't make anything else, even knowing that a fifth game would be a potential success as fans are now craving for it more so than in the past. Besides, it would make perfect sense if Sanzaru were the ones making a sequel to _Thieves in Time_ considering that they're the ones who made that story in the first place, not _Sucker Punch._
And last but not least, if Sanzaru didn't have the intentions of making another Sly game, then why not make Sly 4 even bigger than it was? If that was going to be their only game, they should have added more episodes where you would get to meet ALL of the ancestors, not _half_ of them, which is one of the main reasons of why I consider Sly 4 to be a game that felt incomplete, even though it was still quite awesome. I always thought that it should have had more episodes.

I totally forgot the fact that it was also a PS Vita game. And while it was still good, they where obviously not going to make like more than 10 episodes so that we could meet all the ancestors in one game. Yeah, now I understand a lot better. I basically had forgotten about the PS Vita by now.
It’s a good thing that SONY gave up handheld gaming a long time ago. Because in certain games like Sly 4, it created a limitation to the game scope. Although I still like it how it is like I said before, but it could have been some episodes longer.
Besides, the graphics could had been a bit better for a 2013 game, but since it was done with the Vita in mind then I see why things happen the way they did.

But, I don’t know. At least I wouldn’t want a *COMPLETE* reboot in a way that totally forgets everything about the last 4 games and starts again like the Spider-Man movies did.
That’s the last thing I would personally want, because there’s so many interesting characters with unfinished stories that I love in the current Sly Cooper universe; and a total reboot from scratch would be basically throwing all of that to the recycle bin.
Sure, it could still be a very good game in theory, but it would be sad as hell for old Sly fans like myself.
Of all the possibilities and options, that’s the one that worries me the most. I mean, at this point I would bet my head that the next Sly Cooper game won’t have a number “5” on its title. Not having that number isn’t a problem cause Thieves in Time didn’t have the number 4 even though it was a sequel.
But I don’t know, we’ll just have to keep waiting to see what will eventually happen to this franchise.
@@bamban_garcia5562 Well, they can make some sort of soft reboot that can serve a stand-alone game while at the same time is in the same universe. Some people have also done something like that. The only problem would be that the fourth game ended with a cliffhanger.
So, I’m not exactly sure about what could they do this time.

This is a bit complicated because yes, they were going to release the Egypt DLC and it got canceled. Sanzaru really made a big mistake there.
Well, I don't know. Now that I think about it, I actually wouldn't find it "bad" if they did start all over again _BUT_ telling us an improved version of the same stories.
Perhaps the correct term wouldn't be a soft-reboot or remaster, but more like a mix between remake, reboot and _re-imagination_ of the first Sly Cooper game. Similar to what Capcom is doing right now with Resident Evil 4, which is a Remake but will also try to improve and add some new story elements...I think that could actually be pretty awesome if done well.
By the way, I just finished Sly 1 today and now I started to play Sly 2. I downloaded the entire series with a PS3 emulator and I'm having a blast at 4K 60fps (I'm enjoying these games more than ever and I definitely recommend it).
But anyway, even though I still love them as they are, they definitely seem quite outdated, and I can also tell that some story elements needed more depth and explanation.
So yeah, I would love to see an improved version of those stories and also about his arch-nemesis Clockwerk. Other villains like Neyla also need a bit more background...

I don’t think it was ever actually in development. The Easter egg probably was just that, an Easter egg. Not a hint at a new game. And the leaks, look some leaks are accurate and others are complete bull. You can’t 100% believe then.
I love Sly Cooper, the original trilogy anyway, but we’re not getting a sequel. The last game sold horribly and I doubt Sony cares about it given their current focus on big AAA blockbusters. Being honest though, I don’t even want a sequel. The original trilogy was perfect and wrapped things up as well as could be. Just leave it as it is.
That trailer was full of games currently being worked on like FF16 and GOW Ragnarok
