Nike Air 180 "Ultramarine" (2024): Review & On-Feet

- Six years have passed since they last retro but the Nike Air 180 is back in its original "Ultramarine" colourway. Nike went back to the drawing board recrafting them to be as close to the original shape as we've ever seen and my latest review has you covered. Nike has used the ultra dense polyurethane midsoles on many of its retro sneakers for years. They're purely for aesthetics now, which yes, if you want a comfortable sneaker buy a modern shoe. I just think turning shoes originally designed to feel good on your feet into basically bricks is a disservice to the originals we fell in love with. Thanks again for your always honest reviews.

I've been checking YT every day for weeks in the hope of a review, and you're the first one! Great work and, as someone old enough to remember when these launched in the early 90s (and staying up into the wee hours to video the TV commercial) I will be doubling (tripling) up on these for sure.

I’ve found myself not wanting Nike/Jordan’s anymore because their expensive and they give no comfort. Unlike New Balance ❤

Great work as always. I will definitely double up on these if possible. My last pair’s air unit came away on one shoe after many years. They were never super comfortable on first wear so I’m good with that for this drop.

Thanks a lot Sean, really interesting, especially the part about the air unit being encapsulated in a TPU cover. Of course that was the case in '91 but I can't remember being it that stiff and rock solid. However, still absolutely a must have for me and definitely a cop!!!

Had the 2018s and wore them to they fell apart. They definitely take some break in time but after that there good to go. Can't wait to run it back. 🔥 Video as always.

As always Sean (Let's Go) 5 start review. The one I got is symmetry on both shoes. It is the color that I went for "Ultramarine" I still want the Air Max 90 "Ultramarine" hopefully they release it again!

@@jherylcatchings8323 I'm a UK size 9 and the size 9 fitted me perfect. Didn't need to size up. I don't have wide feet so I'm all good. Nice perfect fit for me.
I’ll 100% be getting these, for me it’s one of Nike’s best ever shoes !!! I love them BUT… I actually prefer the profile of the previous reissues, I don’t really care about the OG design. I’ll need to see them in person but they’re still getting bought regardless 🔥
I’ve been wanting to add a pair of these to my OG Air Max collection trying to get OG colorways of those older models. But the lack of comfort and QC is disappointing since at this point comfort is a big factor for me. Maybe they go on sale and can pick them up in a few months. Great Review Sean!
Sean I'm such a sniper about these kicks I have some Airmax Guile in the Ultramarine colorway. I think a 2019 pickup for me. J.crew. I've been in the trenches with you for a while. I looked on stock X... no one resold the guile in big numbers and none exist for resale. It's pure!!! No fakes of it got made. I remember when New Balance reps didn't exist in 2018. Fr!!! Or asics!!!
Sean good review , I bought an early pair to give an honest review . I have had the original from 1991 , and all the retros since. I always thought the retro version were awful with the shape . These new one definitely got the shape correct , the air pocket was in cased in side the hard window on the originals so that’s and original design. I hope it was just random you got one with the QC errors . I can’t wait for these .

I have 2018 Air Max 180 and this is already yellowed a part of Mid sole also suede upper.
Do you have a side to side comparison of the previous model? The updated shape really made it look like the comfort would have been there. You think they would go on sale?
I had always read that there was some kind of intellectual property problem with these. Like the reason they have never made the bubble the same as the original.
Even on these, the bottom is not 100% clear. Looks like they put a foam or something in the center. Anyway I Was a kid when the originals came out and being able to see all the air bubble section like that blew my mind.

I'm narrow footed. Is it safe to go half size down for these as I couldn't order true to size for these?
Edit: Actually, nvm, going half size down, wasn't a bad idea as if I stuck to true sizing I would've gotten heel lift/slippage thankfully. Its kinda snug due to the gussted tongue, but after breaking them in, it shouldn't be too bad for narrow-footers! Hope this helps!
Love that model but not the price point. If, like other previous editions, they sit on the shelves, I will consider buying a pair...

I believe the reason it’s called the air 180 is because it was the first Nike air model with an air unit fully visible from one end to the other from the outsole. 180 “degrees” of visible air.

I love how these look! Could never get these as a kid as they were too expensive so i must have these. As far as comfort goes, the BW’s from 2021/22 weren’t that comfortable either which was unexpected but did improve a bit after breaking in. Are these 180’s comparable to those?

Back in the day when they were first released, this was the s***. We all wanted them.
I love these. Super comfortable after a couple wears.
Nike will release limited units and then allow the shoe to be sold out and then re-sold by resellers for triple the original price. When the "One eighties" were originally released, we didn't have those problems.
Everything u said is true. The same can be said for the Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG w/yellow soles. Resellers gobbled them up and selling them for twice as much.
Is the red trim painted like on AM 90s or colored plastic? Bc I hate when they paint to AM 90’s and the color chips off easy.
you mean the part on the heel? it’s plastic. the midsole is painted though
Really interesting to read about all these excitement and anticipation even after watching the review. There are so many options out there including all the AirMax variants. At $150 USD, there are much better options out there I'm afraid.

Feeling like 11yo again! Shape is the truest to the original. Higher heel construction, more padded and yes it was always nylon allover. Bubble is at last the OG Big one! There were tons of copyright issues and NIKE could not make the shoe as it was back in 1991. Air unit was indeed caged to protect it from popping. Moreover, in terms of comfort, these shoes were a pinnacle. So please be fair and compare them to 90s standards and not modern standards. Thanks for the review!
Also read some quality issues with these, but sad to hear the lack of comfort (is it comparable in midsole stiffness to AM1/AM1 OG86?).Nice look though, a sort of bargain AM90's.

I LOVE the 180's. Had the 2005 History of Air Ultramarines and crumbled to death a few years ago 😞. Also weird that these are stiff. The 180's were the most comfortable of the retro Air Max.

You ain't seen my black ahh comment in a moment on any uploads. These Imma speak on. 10/10 if you enjoy nike and these fit your foot... as must for your collection. I need mine! I ran into a size 12 from 2018 at a thrift store a month ago. I flipped seeing em in person. It was like a premonition. I feel these won't sell fast. The last OG airmaxes the kiddos didn't care about.

Same here, although I do think that they might go the same way as the AM1 Big Bubble and not have too much of a crazy resell value. In an ideal world, Nike will produce enough of these and there will be a number of stockists, so getting a pair won't be too difficult.

why is label on the tongue same like on ones beeing sold for 25 euros retail price on instagram, nike sneakers have a different label, that pair also has it, but it's inside deeper... makes me think that nike has bought fake ones from vietnam and sold them as the original but only in the US since everyone over there have the same ones... I also purchased them but I don't like them since they seem fake to me and aren't comfortable as previous that I have had before...

Ordered mine today, I wore the hell out in the very early 2000, went jogging for 1,5 hours for many many months and years. I was a little disappointed with the last Air Structure release, they broke on my feet last summer in Thailand. The streets are uneven in Bangkok, I bent my foot and the midsole around the air pack broke. Not suitable for 90 kilo.
I loved the super tight fit by the way, the Air Structure is too loose for my taste for example. I had the last Air Max 90 Infrared and sold them instantly, too tight around the toes. I think these 180ies might be my shoes…

This is the unfortunate experience with retros. It's not the same as the original. Having grown up as a young kid and teenager in the 90's, I'm nostalgic for 90's kicks. But to hear ur review abt these 180's is kind of deflating.

Unfortunately it seems like the biggest anxiety comes true. After working so hard on the shape and the OG design of the shoe, Nike fails to let them manufacture the right way. Cheap materials, poor production quality might ruin this long awaited classic. This is sad, especially they look really dope.

Dang this was a must-cop for me, but after hearing your review, I’m pretty disappointed. Don’t know if I can fork over $150+ for such an uncomfortable pair.
That sole of the air unit let's the trainer or sneaker down, nothing like the originals, even the retro sole was similar but obviously smaller. Why mess that part up, makes zero sense.
Nike shoes don't give all sizes online in some countries, once reach UK12, then jump to UK13, no choice for UK12.5, unfortunately my tts is UK12.5 in Nike, disappointed most time
