Scotty, I love your vids but you're incorrect, The CH-R does not have a physical first gear. Just has a regular CVT.

The 04 honda odyssey was actually known for good cam quality and transmission from what I read, even though i noticed the infamous 3rd gear shutter like that cr-v Scott has reviewed. Then a brand new resigned model rolls out in 05
Because I'd lived in Japan for a couple years more than 50 years ago and drive a couple Toyotas each with high miles on them I was especially receptive when another Toyota driver at the gas pump said, "You know why Japanese Toyotas are better throughout? Because everyone involved believes it would be dishonorable to do less than a perfect job."
That was my experience of the Japanese in relation to their work in the 1960s. In fact, Japan had, and I assume still has, a set of laws addressing professional responsibility. Essentially, if you are paid to do a job you are a professional and are personally liable for your work. I look around at the half-assed work we sometimes pay for here and think somebody ought to go to be jailed and forfeit their personal assets to compensate their victims.
No affirmative Action Union workers like American companies.
I have a 2018 CH-R. Absolutely love the car. Never had any complaints about the back seat space either. I usually get 28 in town and 30+ on the highway.
I just purchased a 2020 CH-R back in July and have really enjoyed it!! I’m actually getting 36-37mpg on my highway commute. Scotty hit the nail on the head, it is a Toyota that kinda flies under the radar!! Thanks Scotty love the content!!
At what speed do you usually commute on the highway?
Hows the transmission on it?
@@NovaBlade926 I usually cruise about 65mph. It’s about 55 mile round trip commute. I’m still averaging the same mpg. I’ve put about 37,000 miles on the car. Still very happy with it!!!
@@TragickSin I’ve had no issues with the transmission. It is a CVT like Scotty said I the video. It’s the first CVT I’ve owned. The car takes off from a stand still well enough to get you up to speed and has decent enough acceleration to pass on the freeway. But you will not be winning any 1/4 mile drag races with it Lol!!! But overall a great car a good little commuter!!!

My wife and I bought her a 2020 XLE C-HR. It was made in Japan. She loves it, except for the slow take off. I have no earthly idea what Scotty is talking about with the launch gear. From a dead stop, this thing is slower than molasses flowing uphill on a sub-zero day, but once you get going, it accelerates just fine. It handles like a dream, too. Seriously, this thing can corner like a sports car and is smoother than butter on the road.
Have the neighbours gotten used to the new guy talking to the camera all the time?
They may scared of those flying arms and hands!
When Scotty moved in they said there goes the neighborhood!
Or tearing down the street.
The folks in Tennessee watched Scotty zooming down the street... which is why Scotty is sitting in the passenger seats now, not allowed to drive! Lol.
And flailing around and yelling at cars in his driveway
Just bought a 2022 today. It does take off pretty good for a 4cylinder. I hope I can love it for years to come
My dad just helped me buy this car as a graduation gift for me and I’m picking it up in a couple of days! I’m excited to drive it!!
I felt like the CHR cornered better than the Rave ,and the styling on this car was really awesome ,great on those country roads !
The TNGA chassis with double rear wishbone suspension is the reason why the C - HR rides & handles so well.
I've been wanting a CHR for over a year now. Awesome looking car!!
We’ve had our CHR since new in 2018 in the UK. It’s got a 1.8l hybrid engine. Love the fuel economy and it’s still pretty punchy. Gonna be getting a Toyota Yaris GR 1.6T AWD this time next year. Try and get your hands on one scotty!!
I have had mine since 2018,I,love it,I have been waiting forever to see you review it !
this car is a scion at heart. since scion died, Toyota moved all the "young and punchy cars" to their Toyota brand
Smart move in my opinion

I would not call this vehicle "punchy."
I’m starting to see more people buying this. I’ve had this since last year. Thank you for doing this video Scotty!
I've been waiting for you to do a video on the C-HR!!! I love how they look!
They look cool but the transmission is prone to failure . .just an FYI because I had one and there have been several complaints
This CVT Transmission had issues when the design was new. Toyota has solved this. Never buy the first of anything... let someone else take that gamble.
@@jeeperwill6262 What year did Toyota solve the CVT issue? I test drove the 2018, and noticed the CVT issue off the line when I got a green light.
I rented one as was amazed by the seat comfort and near Camry levels of ride smoothness and quietness. Around town agility was delightful. It's a sleeper.

Yea great on gas.
Congrats! I bought one in October and agree. I was getting 19mpg in town with my Ford EcoSport. Getting 25 to 26 in town with the C-HR and not even broken in yet. Very pleased! Enjoy!
Top of that is the peace of mind that the toyota gives you that you will reach point B without any prob. Thats 1 thing that is priceless
Thank you Scotty! My friend and her husband got her mom's Toyota CHR and their 3 little children ride in the back. I want one too.
One of my friends drives a Hyundai Santa Fe (it has awful rollover) and when she drove with me in my Highlander she was blown away bc of how smooth it was and how it didn't feel like the car was gonna flip when we go around a turn😭 that's quality
Been looking at the chr for awhile now, & finally got one last week! Lovin it!
We got a Honda Odyssey back in 2005 and we ran that thing everywhere! It finally gave up around 13 years after we got it.
Funnily enough we replaced it with a 2013 Sienna.
There both great but my parents always bought a Sienna
My retired father just ordered 2022 Toyota CH-R Limited model, it is coming from Japan in little less than 2 months. He also considered HRV from Honda but chose to go with CH-R.
We are in Ontario, Canada and final price out the door for this thing was $36,000 CDN.
❄That's a decent Toyota. We got a bunch of snow up here in Alaska. Keeping my peddle to the metal on the snow drifts.
Just took one for a test drive and it was smooth, Loved it
I bought 2021 chr limited and love it so far
I am so happy! I recently got a 2018 Toyota C-HR as my first car. It’s Scotty approved!
Glad they made it better. 2017 model was super cramped in the front and rear. When you had a normal 6 foot person in front driver seat, it was difficult to get my feet into the back seat and my head would hit the ceiling. Also demand for those cars in California was so high, the base sticker price started at $21,995 back then.
Hey Scotty, just bought this car today for wife … test drove it and it was amazing.
Really quite rid and it’s Zipppppy .
The only concern I had was the ones being sold in 🇨🇦 are made in Turkey so don’t know how that will go.( came out the one I received was made in JAPAN 🇯🇵)
I was waiting for this, thanks!
OMG THANK YOU THANK for this video i been waiting for you to review the C-HR
Good vid. I actually think these look pretty good also. Like those back doors. That manual mode option is a plus.
I own a 2019 model and it gets me where I need to go it is definitely a great car to commute in, just a heads up for the people in the used car market looking for one of these cool looking cars. I don’t mean to turn anyone off but I work for toyota and I see these at the service center all the time for transmission issues, typically the mileage is anywhere from 55k to 80k. I was hoping Toyotas version of the CVT would be it, but sadly it’s not. We currently have 4 CHRs in the service with transmission issues, but the good news is that the they hold their trade in value very well.
that head lamp lens assembly is probably more expensive than my last car LOL
They resemble the triple beam premium led lights that are a Lexus option. They are a $1500 option. Is that about right?
I’ve just bought a Toyota ch-r. I used to drive a Lincoln LS (also a hidden gem of a car) back in the early 2000s. All I have to say is the CH-r sort of reminds me of my LS, it makes me feel like my old self when I drive it.
I own one. Love it! My only ding on this subcompact “suv”, is that these don’t come in 4wheel drive. Otherwise, they’re nice but not amazing.
I'm so excited you reviewed the C-HR. I just bought one in October and I love it! And I bought a Toyota because I've been watching your videos Scotty. I had a 2018 Ford EcoSport and I liked it okay, but it was already coming apart in a couple of areas in the dashboard and it road like a bucket of bolts. I had driven a 2006 Ford Fusion for 12 years before that and loved it, so went back to Ford for that reason. I was just excited to get the new technology in a car and bought the EcoSport on the spot! But as the story goes, regretted it a bit as time went on. I was thinking of trading or selling and was watching car videos when I came across you. So glad I did! I was able to sell my EcoSport for more than I owed and turned around and bought the C-HR. I had never seen one before and fell in love. My husband went over it with a fine toothed comb and said "buy it." So I did! Loving it!! Thanks Scotty! Now I'm hooked on your videos and believe I will be a Toyota customer from now on.
Oh, and by the way, welcome to Tennessee! We live in Columbia, just south of Nashville, so not too far from you!
Wow so the eco sport was that bad huh.
@@moeanthony9308 Well, bucket of bolts is probably unfair. It was fine around town and I liked the size of it. Horrible on the highway though, and that's where the "bucket of bolts" comes in. Lol! But the quality of the C-HR is so much better for the same price. Also, I averaged 19 MPG around town in the EcoSport and with the C-HR, even not broken in yet, I am getting 25 to 26 in town. So the difference all around in quality of the build and mpg is pretty drastic to me, for vehicles in the same category and price range.
I want to see a new Intro of Scotty flying down a long Country road in his '94 Celica.
I do second that!
Right, air it out. 😂😅
Scotty, I think it would be cool for you to start a video series on the evolution of cars. Each video have a deep dive into the changes of Ea model car has gone through from past to present. :)
Great review Scotty. Love my chr. However the CHR does not come with first launch cvt. The Corolla does.
Another Toyota a lot of people don't know about-- the Avalon. One of my best friends recently bought one. It steps into Lexus territory and he loves it. I would like to see you review one. It's a nice ride.

Only issues, i feel claustrophobic sitting at the back due to the big side pillars and recently making a clunking noise when shift to reverse. Otherwise a sporty looking, fairly decent and reliable car.
Now I know what I should use for a daily driver, thanks Scotty!
Love my CH-R. My 2nd and 3rd cars made me lose interest in cars bc they were so basic and boring. Getting a CH-R made me appreciate cars all over again. I own a 2018 C-HR. I got it cause it was a cool looking car! I am happy with this car and it's just awesome! It's not going to win any races that's for sure BUT I do recommend putting it in sport mode and driving it in manual mode. It's fun! Again not winning races but zippy enough to scratch that tiny speed itch you might get.
Have you added the Arduino/CANBUS mod to yours - I have. Stays in Sport Mode.
Awesome Scotty. Great job explaining the transmission
Hundreds of these where I live. I was going to say, at least it's not a Kia Soul, then Scotty mentions he just traded his Soul for it! Priceless

Hey Scotty, I just bought this car and Love it.

Everytime Scotty talks about Kias I wonder if I have just been really Lucky. My Forte from 2010 has nearly 180,000 miles on it and it's still doing well. I change oil religiously and drive it conservatively but this thing is doing great. It gets great gas mileage and has been a reliable car since I got it with only 14000 miles on it 8 years ago. I drive a lot because of what I do but it's a comfortable car that gets me from point A to point B.

Thanks for another good informative video Scotty! Only one problem with this nice vehicle, it is no good for Canadians Winters as it does not have AWD.
have 2019 CHR, very low maintenance. Beware when going to Dealers though. they will try to sell you services that you probably don't need. I do my oil change every 5k miles with tire rotation (technically you can do 10k) , change Engine and Cabin filter together every 25k miles. Wheel alignment after 3 years. Change tire at 50k Miles. Solid car. The maintenance and ownership cost is superior. you also pay less $ on insurance if you pay off the car.
And change that CVT fluid or flush it every 30k miles. Or get that nice "humming noise of deatth".

We get the CH-R here in the UK. but they're only available with hybrid engines (1.8 & 2.0 ltr). You're lucky in the US that you can just get a petrol (gasoline) engine. Good review, Scotty. I always enjoy yours. I won't say it's a great-looking vehicle, but it's not boring. (I think that big under-cladding is ugly, though I'm sure it's to protect the paint.) TBH, I think what some folks call dull makes some cars look classy ... such as the Camry a couple generations back. Or the 1994-6 era 4Runner, which I think is gorgeous, sedate. I have a clean record with no claims for decades (except when I accidentally hit a deer running across a freeway at 11:00 PM, but I told my insurance in that incident that I cannot be held liable for the criminal acts of a third party-- that maniac deer was suicidal!), so whenever my insurance company raises my rates, I get quotes from other insurance companies and tell my swine carrier to beat their competitor's rates or I'm dropping their coverage. My wife and I have matching 2020 kia stinger gt1, we have a 2006 dodge grand caravan, 2012 ford expedition, a 2019 tahoe and a 2006 dodge magnum rt. Our house looks like a car lot lol. I have not had a single issue with non of my vehicles. The key to it, is take care of your vehicles. Oil changes on time and just simple maintenance will go a long way.
Just purchased a 2018 chr and I'm actually loving it besides the radio not having android auto. I'm a softball dad so needed the extra room for softball equipment plus good gas milage for all the traveling I do during season
Has it been reliable?
@@XDMIIIIIIIII very reliable so far
Have a 2012 highlander limited hybrid top of the line one ,love toyotas!
When he opened the trunk, I audibly said "whoa...."
Scotty; you forgot to say the AC blows freezing cold? lol 😂
Thanks for making my morning Scotty Always making me laugh with real life!! How do you like the Volunteer State so far?
👍🏻🇺🇸 I really enjoy your videos. And learned a lot. Thanks.
My neighbor has a Chr, I think it looks like a UFO. He loves it.
This car is slow, underpowered, has poor gas mileage, has bad blind spots, and small cargo. You're better off getting the Corolla instead. The C-HR doesn't have the launch gear. Scotty is wrong.
34-35 MPG is "poor" ??? that is what I am getting
I was at the local dealership in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The CH-R in the showroom were made in Turkey 🇹🇷
That's correct. Build quality is beyond exceptional. Look it up. It won Gold for best manufacturer in the world.
I was half expecting you to say “and im buying one”!
