Connecting Chords by holding common tones, advanced intermediate lesson

  • In this advanced intermediate guitar lesson, I take the chord progression G, E-, C, and D and add the diatonic 7th to each chord. Now our progression is Gmaj7, E-7, Cmaj7, and D7. I then share a practice of connecting these chords while holding the common tones between the chords. I keep my voice leading clean by maintaining the lines on each string. Some of the chord shapes in this video are challenging but worth it. Enjoy.

      Holding common tones definitely creates a smooth sound and reveals some really cool chord voicing.
