  • Welcome to our Jeep to RV Toad (Dingy) Conversion Series. There a 6 videos in this series.
    Part 2: ReadyBrake, ReadyStop, BreakAway
    The braking system we went with, we have been using since 2006. It is the cheapest and safest system we have found. It is all mechanical, nothing electrical to worry about. It is pretty much fool proof once it is installed correctly.

    Nice video, helped me a lot. It's better than the official video came from the manufacturer. 😀 I used a hacksaw to cut the spacer as you did and a Dremmel to fine tune the cut. Thanks for share.

    Dang I hope they pay you for this! Installed both of these today and it was straightforward with the video ... but the instructions they send with the devices? It's like someone made a copy of a copy of a reverse-translated Japanese manual. So, thank you for this. In 2022 the parts look a tiny bit different, but this is still relevant. Hope to see you on the road, toad!

    Excellent video! Thank you for taking the time to make this. It makes the install look much easier than it actually is. I wonder how many people zip tie the brake cable to a moving suspension part, or worse, route it too close to the cat causing it to melt.

    Thanks for the videos. Nicely done and very helpful. Just finished the installation on a 2015 JKU. Your videography made it seem easy. (spoiler, it wasn't) Routing the cable along the drivers frame, would be easier with the tire removed, and easier to see and avoid the wiring along that frame.

      The Jeep did great. I'm quite proud of him for being so reliable. Almost 4 thousand miles round trip and no issues. Drove through different kinds of weather and was very good. I don't know why some people say they are not reliable. I watched two other channels where guys went to all 50 states over a year and their jeep did great too. I on the other hand am super beat and probably need two days to recover and get my strength back.

    Thank you. Got mine all hooked up with the help of your videos. Haven't taken it out yet. My question is, since the brake pedal is easier to depress when the engine is running, is there any issue with the ReadyBrake activating the brake pedal without the engine running? Thank you

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 7 lety

      Just pull on the cable that is headed to the motor home real hard. To release, push on the other side where the cable enters the red box from the brake in the towed vehicle.

  • @bb0257
    @bb0257 Před 4 lety

    why the loop in the cable? the instructions don't mention it anywhere

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 4 lety

      That is the way they used to do it in the old instructions. We set it up the same way we did the other two times we setup a toad. The new way is fine too ( I suppose! LOL).

  • @nickslife6533

    I just installed this system and when I press the brake, the tounge does not stick out like yours did and the pedal stays down. When I lift the pedal slightly it returns. Any Ideas?

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 3 lety

      Sounds like it is catching some place. You should be able to pull the tongue with your hand. Make sure you have enough carpet out of the way. The routing of the cable housing should only have gradual curves in it. Be sure that when you fished the cable though the housing a strand didn't unravel cause it to bin up inside the housing. Disconnect the cable from the brake pedal and see it the cable moves easily. If not , you'll have to pull the cable out and see what is causing it not to move. Those are a few of the things that come to mind for the problem you are having. Good Luck. 😀

    Ok I have had mine installed for a year now....My ready brake cable now sticks a little so the Toad brake idiot light in the Rv wont turn off.. Any ideas on how to lubricate it..I suppose I could hook up a Bungy cord to the brake to pull it all the way back.. Have you run into that seeing you installed this ready brake back in 2017.. Hey, what part of Boston are you from...

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jim. Make sure the the cable isn't getting hung up on anything going through the firewall. We had that issue with a Jeep Liberty we used back in 2011. BTW not Boston, close though, we're in NH! 😀

    What year is your jeep

  • @nitropowerful1
    @nitropowerful1 Před 6 lety +1

    I don't get it. The Jeep brakes are power assisted, operated when the vehicle is on (running). Usually you only get a couple of useful pumps out of a hydraulically-assisted braking system (with vehicle off) before the pedal is too hard to be effective. ???

    • @WeRmudfun
      @WeRmudfun  Před 6 lety

      We are not experts, so I can only assume the weigh of the Jeep (4000+ pounds) pushing on the surge brake is creating more pressure on the brake pedal than my foot can without power. We just installed a toad brake monitoring light connected directing to the brake light switch on the Jeep and it is illuminating when we brake in the RV. :)
