To wash, put it in a king size pillowcase, tie it closed and wash.
Like the bags you use for delicates.
Wow thanks for this tip! Never thought of this!
I was literally just coming back on here to see if anyone knew how to wash this! thanks!!
You are a dream, thank you for that tip.
Depending on size of your blanket, you may have to make your own "pillowcase" type bag.
Great idea thanks.
its the fourth day of september and this woman got me excited for christmas YAS
Me too!!!🎅🤶🎅🤶☃️☃️☃️🎄🎄🎄🎄
yeppeogeu Lmaoo same
Lol. Yes.
Sameee 🥰
Me too and it’s the day after my birthday September the 7th..... cozy blankets and fireplace, hallmark movies and eggnog yess honey
Fun fact about making this blanket: If you wear a Fitbit, it will track every stitch as a step 😂 So I got a couple thousand “steps” in while sitting in my bed knitting this last night.
Also it only took me like 2 hours and was SO FUN! I just ordered more yarn to make one for my mom. Thank you for this video! Was so easy to follow!
Funner fact, this subtle movement including fidgeting and shivering actually burns calories and can increase fat loss.
Hey! What type of yarn did u use? I´ve read a lot of comments saying common yarn fells apart quicly. Do you still have it?
Girl with skill: you need no skill
Me, with literally 0 skill: it’s not lookin good bud
I'm with you
..
🤣
Southern Fern I’ve created a very thick knot 😂😩
I just tried it... there was a hole that could fit my dog through it
@@ajchung622 I’m trying now and maybe my brain is a right thinker and complicates it.. 🤷🏻♀️ but uggh watching this 82 times maybe 83rd time I will get it.. I’m guessing when Grama tried to teach me to knit this why she would smack her forehead.. lol 😂
It's currently 76 degrees outside yet here I am, watching a video on how to make a blanket. Well done Kathryn!
Ms. Artemis 107 here !! lol
Oh man, I would kill for 76! It's been 111 the last week here. 🙄
Me too hahha
89° but need a chunky blanket for that AC life ❄️
Can I use a blanket in Fort Worth, TX?? Only in January!
When you join a new skein, instead of cutting off the tails, weave them into your blanket. This way, if your knot loosens (which it likely will if you're using a chenille yarn like the one pictured,) your whole blanket won't unravel.
(Source: 20+ years of fiber arts.)
Question this yarn looks pretty chunky n solid, could you use a needle n thread to join the ends??
@@84rinne_moo You should be able to weave the ends into the blanket without a needle and thread, but you can give that a shot if you think it'd work well!
Janis what type of yarn would you recommend for this project?
@@hildabyui There are a lot of different, thick yarns out there, but the ones I see the best reviews of have been the brand Loops and Threads.
I made a chunky blanket like this with size 35 needles and three strands of Lion Brand Wool-ease Thick and Quick yarn held together. Mine was for a full-size bed and took at least 12 skeins, probably more. If you're going to do this, for the love of pants, wait for sales and coupons!
Hi, how long is each skein? I looked at some today that are 44m per skein so how many would I need? Newbie here, really want to try this!
Just wanted to say thank you for this. I work construction and have no knowledge of these sort of things. I'll admit I had to watch the video several times to get the starting and stopping bit down but I was able to make a blanket that is about queen sized for my aunt in a couple of days. Just wrapped it up actually. She used to have a loom when we were kids and made blankets and stuff for us, but she was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer's and is having trouble remembering a lot of things so I wanted to pay her back. Anyway the video helped a lot.
Hoping your Aunt likes the Queen blanket you made for her. With your Aunt having Alzheimers I would of picked her brain 5-10 yrs ago for lots of information on the things that she did & things she made if only for family or to include in your family genealogy. (I've been doing my family's since before 1980 & have lots of information that will go thru the family. Photo's , traditions, hobbys!& much more.) That way the things she did, the information would still be in your family for generations.
How loving!!
@@dragons8822 OK. Jfc.
Congratulations on figuring out how to go out of your way to neither help nor sympathize with someone's situation. On purpose.
Hopefully you read back that comment, realize how goddamn shitty it was and never do that to anyone else.
_"UnLiKe YoU, I would've had some thorough data mining planned a decade in advance for your Aunt's heartbreakingly debilitating disease that you JUST found out about! 🤪 You're welcome!"_
Maybe try and pretend you have a least *some* gd home training.
Happy you had to watch the video more than once to get it as that’s what I’ll have to do & hopefully I too can make one. Also so nice that you made one for your aunt.
this is such a sweet gift!
As an avid knitter and crocheter, these instructions were so clear and easy! People who do crochet and knitting diys should use yarn this size lol
😮
"YOU GET A BLANKET! YOU GET A BLANKET! YOU ALL ARE GETTING BLANKETS" (Me to my family this Christmas 😂)
Shayna Brown lmao 🤣
😂😂😂😂 Better than a 🚗!
No taxes & fees! 😉
Lol i was thinking the same!!
lmao
I’m dyin! Hilarious, and so happening Christmas 2019. 😂
I'm going to host a blanket party with this idea. Thank you!
What a great idea!!
What a fun idea!
I feel like the instructions were super unclear.
krysdekel omg I thought the same idea 😍♥️
DIY COTTAGE has a clear & simple tutorial.easiest way I've seen by far.
I had to look up how these are made, because my awesome neighbor made me one for Christmas. She used maroon, black and gray yarn. It's truly one of the best handmade gifts I've ever received. These are super warm, and my cat is constantly kneading it. 😊
Yarn bee eternal bliss from hobby lobby is a great yarn for this! I made a HUGE blanket for my aunt last year from it and it’s 6.99 regularly. I waited for it to be 50% off and used 6 skeins and so it cost about $20 for my full blanket.
Thank you so much for this information. Do you know what size your blanket is? looks like hers is 50"x60", but I can't tell for sure.
Y0u Tube im not sure about hers because at one point it looks wide and short. But if I remeber correctly mine was about that size.
@@chelseamae7 Thank you for the information!
That’s great! I’m gonna try to go to hobby lobby sometime to make a blanket Bc the hobby lobby yarn is cheaper lol
I love the Yarnbee Eternal Bliss.
The blankets that are stupidly expensive are made of a completely different material (wool roving). It pills terribly with frequent use and is not machine washable, so not ideal if you have kids and want to snuggle with them under a chunky blanket. This is a much better option, and way less expensive. Great idea!
Angela Kewin it's not stupidly expensive when you're using 100% real wool like merino wool. All wool pills, but the pilling makes it look even more vintage farmlike. (The trend most people are going for these days.) Merino wool or other real roving wool have heat insulation benefits that these cheap blankets cannot provide. And these are little knits compared to what real chunky knits look like. If you're going to spend hundreds on a blanket, just take good care of it. And yes, you can actually wash certain wool in a machine.
@@jamieher2217 I'm very well aware of the pros and cons of using wool roving for textiles such as this. If I am going to fork over $140ish for a THROW blanket it needs to be durable and relatively easy to "take care of" as you say. That's the whole point of this video.
Angela Kewin I have a wool blanket and my kids uses it. My pet loves it. So I'm not sure why one would be deem them not durable. It has felted up nicely over the years and I still have it lying around. Probably many people received synthetic wool over the real kind and it fell apart. That's why people are so against roving wool.
Angela Kewin Very diplomatic answer 😂
Real chunky knits come from roving. These little knits are nothing compared to the beautiful huge chunky knits. You might as well just call this a knitted blanket because it's not the chunky kind.
People are really complaining about $35 lol I’ve seen these bad boys retail for well over $100. Everybody’s dime is different I guess 🤷🏾♀️
If I make one it's going to cost way more than 35. I want mine to be big and actually be able to cover my tall ass comfortably lol.. to me this ones more of a baby blanket or a toddler sized blanket. Ima need 50-75 loops lololol.
Lipstick Junkie I felt that, I’m 5’11 and have a heck ton of body to cover
people are complaining about the 35$, because that's not their 'budget' for 'budget gifts'. even if it would cost 10 times as much in a store, that's irrelevant. 35$ spent is still 35$, and it won't be any less because you tell yourself you 'saved' 65$+
The larger ones can easily sell for $500 or more online. Even $100 is a bargain to me!
K You are so right. Just the yarn to make a smaller size throw (if you buy the “real deal”) is over $100. The yarn is much thicker too - like so big you need to use your arms to crochet it.
Just made this for a friend. Took about 2 hours total time. So excited about the outcome. I told my family everyone is getting one for Christmas. Super easy to follow instructions. I can’t wait to make myself one!
What Bernat yarn did you buy?
Found this video this morning, had a nice blanket the evening! Great video. I did 30 loops and used 10 8oz skeins. Ended up a great size for snuggling with with! Thank you.
How big did your blanket end up being?
I just want to say, firstly I do not comment often on CZcams videos at all. However, I feel it’s necessary for me to say that for YEARS I’ve always tried to learn but I couldn’t figure out how to make a 2nd row or just finish a simple scarf or blanket. This video, literally made me get up and get my old unused yarn that I quit using and I made a really nice blanket in 2 hours. THANK YOU. I’m so happy! Amazing video and Love how short and simple it was. Thank you ♥️
Sometimes you need a good visual. My blue-ribbon-winning grandma taught me how to knit and said to use light-color yarn when learning. You can see the stitches better.
Mine too...always ended up with to many loops or not enough!! So don’t think you’re the only one!! I often thought I could at the least get a scarf right...nope never happened!!
czcams.com/video/hZRlyJaaikA/video.html
Hopefully I have as much luck as you have. I’ve watched multiple videos and I’m still struggling 😩😔
SO INSPIRED! Yay, sometimes it just takes the "right" teacher & VOILA! Definitely trying this with a Hallmark!
I have been knitting for 45 years and did not know I could do that. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve made this blanket a few times over the past 3 years already because of your video and I’m now making 2 more while watching some tv. Thank you for this video! It’s been so helpful and I’m so glad I get to keep rewatching it when I need it 😊
Hi I have a question. Does this blanket come apart easily or does it hold pretty well?? It looks pretty sturdy and I’m just kinda concerned that it would get caught on the corner of my bed or something and the loops would come undone
@@aspencook5479 I still have the very first one I made and there’s nothing wrong with it! I’ve had my dogs lay/play on it and it’s still good to go. The way all the loops are connected make it not fall apart as long as you secure the end part well enough.
I love this. I’ve brought 6 balls of yarn and I will listen to every step you ladies told me. Thank you I’m so excited to start.
Couldn't decide what to get for my friend for her chemo journey. I think I'll make her one of these. Thank you!
Eunice Myers Aww! My heart goes out to your friend & you for making her a blanket. I’m sure she’ll love it and will use it. My father was always so cold while in chemo. Love is: A cozy, friend-made blanket!
She will love it, when my mom went thru chemo she was alway cold. She might also love a hat. Id look into crocheting one cause they are quite warm
Eunice Myers .....she will love it! You are so thoughtful!
Eunice that is a lovely idea. I hope she continues to do well and you have many more good times together! 🌞
My mom made a blanket for a friend going through chemo, and she said a prayer with each knot. Might be a good idea also. I hope your friend gets well soon. God bless.
FYI Michaels has this yarn for $4 or $5 this week
Life saver!
Plus its in some of the 4$ grab bags
It was $6.97 today
Is there any particular name for that kind of yarn?
@@anitadominguezs yes 4$ Grab Bags
This has got the be the best video tutorial on how to make these knit blankets. Every other video takes forever and doesn't get straight to the point. Thank you guys so much!!!!
shes so humble, its amazing.
It took me 2 hours to make this blanket today. Definitely do it on a table.
Chris Code i second this 100%!!! i tried to make it on the floor but a) my back was killing me from leaning over the blanket and b) i couldn’t get the stitches flat!! switched to table = much much easier and better!!
Thank you! I was going to ask how long does it typically take to make
Can I ask how big the blanket ended up being? Just want to know if I should grab extra balls to make it bigger
@@Shannass22 mine ended up being halfway between a short full and a short queen. Definitely big enough for me to sit with on the couch. But if you're looking for a cuddler, I'd consider more. Also as a note, if you want tighter stitches, take your time and make smaller stitches, otherwise you end up with some holes. I'm going to take mine apart and redo it.
Chris Code mine came out super long. Any suggestions?
WHOA! That was NOT the sudden burst of loud energy I expected from the cozy, calming, neutralized thumbnail.
These women are way too perky for me.
@@krystalcarey It's not the personality itself that jostled me- it was the clear disconnect in theme from the thumbnail to the video. I found this video in the recommendations of another aesthetic autumn video, haven been watching a multitude of them all from recommendations and all being calming, and was terribly startled when this one started from the sheer volume and energy. I almost toppled over a chair.
@@krystalcarey Yes. What a shame because the information is good. Too annoying to watch more, however (including music). Hopefully, they will tone it down. Calm and soothing is much more attractive to potential viewers.
Omg my eyes went 👀
@@birchtree5794 I agree on this topic. I've not looked at what other topics their channel covers, but this is definitely something I agree with concerning anything knit and cozy.
Just ordered the yarn to make a blanket! I’m so excited! Thank you for these easy to follow instructions!❤️
This is the best chunky blanket video! I’ve watched it several times (only cause it’s months in between each blanket I’ve done lol). This year I am making these for Christmas presents and I’ve made ones to drape over the beds in our new home. Love it!
I don't know why this came on my feed, but I'm down to make one!
“...for just $35”
Aight... imma head out
Janelle -_- yeah, my eyebrows raised a little bit at that part.
Yes, but compared to the full price of them in the store. That is the entire point of her channel; getting or making stuff that cost way less than what it goes for retail.
😭😭😭😭
I literally just bought five skeins of that exact same yarn at Michael's. They retail for $10 a pop, not $6/each like she says.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do it on a dime, huh? That's about $34.90 more than I'm willing to do it for tho'. Great project idea though.
You’re so positive and cheerful and cute! Both of you! Thank you so much for this tutorial! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Thank you!!! Fastest afghan I’ve ever made and so perfect for when gift giving time comes. I used Yarn bee’s Eternal bliss for mine.
It's casually 99°F outside
But I'm legit about to make one of these!
Ditto!
Yup, 116°F for me and yet here I am watching this.
Same!
Susannah Lerch I’ll wait until it’s cold outside and I want to stay inside😀I tried knitting so many years ago, my project was never finished because I had difficulty remembering to count. Maybe this will be easier.👍🏼
I'm in, bring on the hot cider!
I don't know what I'm doing here but it was nice.
Just made one of these last night.... why it took me so long to do this I have no idea... but now I'm hooked!! So much fun.
You made this look so easy! So I will try this and watch this video over and over as I go to make sure I don’t get carried away, lose my place, or just plain mess it up horribly!! Thank you for this!! ❤
I saw this video back in June and I started saving money (I'm a college student) to buy yarn and do it for Christmas for my boyfriend. (I get really enthusiastic about Christmas.) I just bought 6 of these yarns and am about to start. ♥️♥️♥️
Awww me too! The other week he almost went into my room after buying a few skeins and I was like YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THERE 😂😂😂
Yazmin Sanchez how did you do?
I am going to try to make one for my boyfriend this year for Christmas:) We love making things for each other and I think this will go over really well as a gift for him
What is the length of each yarn pls?
czcams.com/video/hZRlyJaaikA/video.html
Anything with loops, knots, puzzles, makes my brain confused. I’d rather watch you ladies do it. 😋
It's fun, try it. For me, its stress therapy if that makes any sense.
hlnl56 : Amen! The whole time I was thinking, “Can’t you just make me one Kathryn?” 😂
Yep, I'm not doing that!
always4ever68 😂😂
Same here
I used these instructions and made a gorgeous throw. I’ve never crocheted or knitted before. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much for simplifiy this beautiful blanket!! I have crocheted blankets for everyone in the family and the one who is the newest member is going to get one of those, mostly because she is this kind artistic style. Not your regular crochet girl...this is perfect!
I am a crochet addict but this is an amazing alternative. Very nice!
Yes me too 😁 This is knitting by hand. It looks like crochet but in the end it's looking like a knitted blanket. Pearl stitch on the back side and the knit stich on the front. So beautiful.
Oh I'm all about crochet too! I can't know to save my life, but I might be able to do this lol
Creativevanspace g
Got my yarn on sale; so, it was a 25.00 project. It's perfectly imperfect, but I love it! Thank you!!!!
Thanks for this video. I want to make a chunky style tree skirt fir my vintage looking tree this year.
I can't believe how easy that was. I was just looking at the chunky yarn over the holidays saying to myself I would love how to make the blankets. Now I know thank you for this video. I liked and subscribed. Its like knitting with your hands.
I have to try to make this! 😍 it looks so cozy.. I’m a firm believer you can never have too make comfy blankets hehe
One can never have enough throw blankets, lol!
Lol right ? I’m about to replace all of my couch throws with tons of these!
Oooh.... This would be a great project for me, and eventual gift for my Granddaughter once she is born!
The instructions were so easy to understand. Thanks. I'll watch your video a few more times and use chenille yarn.
🤩
Love this chunky blanket!! Such a cute idea. Projects like this are so fun. ♥️♥️
I wanted to make one of these blankets! I didn’t realize how easy it was it I’m so excited try this! Thanks for sharing!
This blanket looks so COZY!!! So nice for the cold weather and super stylish too!
Great idea to do with kids. They can help make their very own blanket. It teaches them a useful craft and also lets them learn to make it themselves.
Teach them how to avoid becoming "consumer" and be a "creator" instead.💚💚
I literally sat on the floor at A.C. Moore watching your video and now I’m hand knitting a blanket!!! Your video was so simple and easy to follow thank you!!!!!
This is just knitting without the needles...
If you want to do this with regular yarn just use two strands of yarn at the same time as if they were one..Big needles and two strands yarn at same time make big chunky blankets..Nice and heavy for keeping out the cold..If you use two strands yarn that are different colors, then the color variations can be interesting to experiment with..
Sue Williams ....very creative! Thank you!
czcams.com/video/hZRlyJaaikA/video.html
Wash in a mesh laundry bag meant for college students, securely tying the draw string at the top. This protects the blanket from stretching!
Omg I am so amazed at how easy this was. Thank you for your time and dedication.
Got inspired to do this blanket while also giving my hands a break from difficult projects. Can't wait to get started
Thank-you! This looks so doable. I just started doing a chunky knit blanket (my first!) with giant knitting needles, but am limited of course to the number of stitches I can fit on the needles and have not yet learned how to use circular needles, so I definitely plan to try this next! I love that you can make it any size.
The knotting or tie used to connect the blankets was easy to watch.
The video was informative and great to watch. 💯❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your simple directions! My first blanket turned our beautifully! This will be my new go to project for gifts! Thank you!!!
Kathryn, this looks like an amazing project. My Christmas shopping is all finished but both of my daughters have winter birthdays and I know they'd LOVE one❤
I'm a knitter who's been sidelined for a while (recovering from rotator cuff surgery), BUT wanted to comment on and thank you for such a sweet and delightful explanation of knitting! You laid it out in such a pleasant and easy-to-understand way--even a child can grasp the concept of knitting as you did here - and recognize what a 'knit' (and reverse purl) stitch actually look like...then showing how they look on knitting needles should be a breeze afterwards. I'm dying now to make one of these adorable throws (my cats will love it I'm sure, hahaha!) while I'm very glad to have found your videos. Very well done, and I'm most appreciative.
I love this and have thought about it.....I've seen arm crochet, arm knit, but this is slightly different! Love it!!!
Been wanting to make a chunky blanket for awhile. Looked it up on CZcams and this was the first video I came across. Viewed it Friday 2/12/21, bought pink and gray yarn at Hobby Lobby- it did cost approx $35.00, worked on it Sat evening and Sunday afternoon. It's finished and beautiful! I've never done any knitting or crocheting but ur video was easy to follow. I think I will be making several of these for Christmas 2021. Thank you so much!
I tried this and I’m very happy with the result!
I used 6 skeins to make it a little wider and I’m glad I did!
This would be a good way for me to demonstrate to my knitting students what's actually going on while they knit.
This is EXACTLY what the needles are helping you do.
BeppyCat But isn’t this crocheting?
@@amygregg1658 crochet finishes each stitch as it's done, Knitting leaves open unfinished stitches, i.e. loops like what the ladies have
Ahh, that makes sense. Thank you!
*This looks so cozy! I love a good blanket and snuggies! MY GOSH you are so creative! Never too many blankets!!! xoxo*
I am working one now, thank you for sharing this idea for crafting. I LOVE doing this!
Totally starting to make 3 or 4 of these for Christmas. My husband was so taken by this video - he even said he would help!
Best share EVER!!! I cannot WAIT to do this, my daughter and I love to crochet and this is a PERFECT holiday activity for her and me to do together. I LOVE IT!!! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾❤️❤️❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😘😘😘

I have never been so excited to do a diy project!!! I think this is one I can actually do! Thank you
I'm going to try it. I can't wait. I practiced on not so thick yarn but I think I got the hang of it for the blanket.
I've been wanting to do these since I first saw them a couple years ago. Thanks!
