I don't get it. I like this channel. Now whenever I see it I'm going to think, "oh this guy gets butt hurt by negative comments". Don't think there was a good reason for this vid but what do I know, I don't pay attention to negative comments.

Bro, I am from the middle east, my country is 7800 miles from California. You dont know me but your content changed by life during really tough times as a kid 10 years ago. As well as you made me regain confidence even though i thought it was impossible during that stage of time. Your support helps a lot of us and we do really appreciate it
This is just social media. These are 13 year old kids. Don't Take Anything Personally. It says in the book, Nothing others do is because of you. This is so true, thank you man. Cocky people in fighting gyms are the last to be picked and the first to leave. The good people don’t take things personally, help each other, communicate, and remain humble.
@@robbiej1343 there is always an exception, and when I say picked I mean as a training/sparring partner. Just speaking based on my own experiences, the humble people in the gym = most experienced and most reliable.

Just need to say this: You are the true definition of a Martial Artist. You go above and beyond your "obligations" as a coach / teacher. "Anyone goes above 30% power - out of the gym" - this is Golden and I have never heard a coach be this attentive to detail and caring for his students! Amazing! Safety first - 30% power and focus on technique. You are a great human being as well. Empathetic. An amazing teacher - online and on the mats. Wise! Wise! Wise! 🙌❤️ Happy to know people like you walk this earth to make it a better place!
Been a follower of you since my first year in Highschool and you were one of the many reasons why I pursued Martial Arts. Dont listen to the haters Shane!
the book Shane showed "the Four Agreements" basically tells you that a negative comment will hurt you not when you hear it or read it, but when you agree to let it hurt you the book breaks down how and why you unconsciously "agree" to let negative things do damage and how to break free of it I really like the book, cant recommend it enough
Keep being you Shane! You been helping people with Self Defense and being efficient fighters! Keep being you and helping the millions of people out there
My first introduction to martial arts was thanks to my dad, and he always told me something similar. "If you get into a fight because someone hurt your ego, you lost regardless of the outcome" Your videos are great Shane. Keep up the good work :), millions of us enjoy and appreciate what you do.
You're tips have really helped me as a martial artist, and I know they will continue to help me. Great point you made in this video, and it's so true. There aremean people out there, but also lots of great people. Just focus on the people that bring you up instead of tearing you down. You're awesome!
Much love to you and your channel, I’ve pick up a lot of good training tips and ideas from you over the years, the one thing I’ve noticed is nobody talks about the mental aspect to fighting. The simplest thing can throw any fighter off their game and I’ve seen it first hand. Glad you made it sobering to point out!!
I legitimately needed to hear this message. Anger and taking things personally is self destructive but so easy to fall into. Thanks for the reminder to stay strong and composed.
I remember when in my first year of high school there was a girl in my class who was constantly negative to everyone around her especially me. It made my high school life miserable but honestly once I found out why she was like this, I felt more sorry for her. She had personal problems that were causing her to lash out like this, but you know something that david goggins said perfectly is ‘your never going to see a hater doing better than you’ And he was damn right 😂
Been following you since 2014 when I started training. Your videos ranging from footwork and proper stance to how to deal with nerves when sparring/fighting have helped me tons in improving my game. Thank you Shane.
I started watching your videos from 2016 and you were the first content creator whom I still like because of your incredible teachings. I also asked you about helping me with my workout routine on Twitter when you had less than 400k subscribers, and you followed me on Twitter, and I couldn't be more thankful to you! Thank you so much for helping all the Underdog fighters from around the world!
This is literally why I kept losing in ufc5 aswell. I was too eager to get a ko fast or was getting mad easy and not being patient which led to me losing a lot. I notice when I play the game in a much calmer mood I have more success. You’re the goat Shane.
I been a fan of your work for years now, and that is some golden advice. Not taking things personally is definitely been a struggle for me personally. Your analysis where you describe the negative person as gaining control through your emotional reaction to insult is truly insightful. I too was a martial instructor for a short time in my home country enforcing that 30% force in sparring with dudes from 18 to 25 is more than a challenge, my instructor days are over but I do wish you success.
Bro, I first read the 4 agreements back when I was a sophomore in high school back in 2003/04. Changed my entire life. When I notice I'm falling out of those agreements I read that book over. Love that you shared that and that you are addressing this issue. It's sad how much depression has gone up in the world. Thank you for being a positive force for people who need it! Also, I just gotta say your content has helped me tremendously! Love what you guys do and all your content. Keep it up!!
One day I woke up and decided to stop being negative. I stopped saying negative things and instead was positive. If I didn't have anything positive to say, I would say nothing. It made me and the people around me happier. Be positive, think twice before being critical of other people and what they do. This channel is great and I have no doubt it has saved many people.
The four agreements completely changed the way i wanted to carry myself! It's an amazing book and when I feel lost I read it again to get back on track. Its so nice because its essentially a guideline to any scenario and you use your discretion to carry out the rest.
Hey Shane, I started watching your videos about 13 years ago, I was 15 back then with a strong interest in all things martials arts related. Loved your content, it was informative, sometimes fun, always enjoyable, and it helped me get better at English (literally, I'm French and wasn't getting much out of my English classes, picked up a lot from youtube, expecially your channel haha, add that to your list of all the good things that you've helped with!) Oh and it also helped me get better at fighting lol, still practicing to this day. You've brought a lot to a lot of people, myself included, so thank you and just keep doing what you love! :D
I started watching you back in 2019 and kept learning how to box but the biggest thing I’ve tried to improve on and been most aware of is how to deal with the emotional pressure I feel like this channel and some other channels talking about human behavior and psychology and stuff like that have helped me to point out on self control and stuff before I was always the type To be self destructive or the type to implode because of the lack of attention I was putting into my own mind and emotions I still have my days when the negative gets to be but I think videos like these are always good to bring me back to earth you know like a reminder that trying to be calm is the correct choice The negativity never stops in this life so I guess the biggest fight a martial artists faces is all mental huh
Its alot easier to disconnect from a personal vendetta with a stranger. Emotions and trauma becomes 100x more intense when you "care". Dont hurt the people you Love. Words hurt like bullets or can hug you from miles away when coming from friends or family. ❤
Thank you Shane, you’re teaching lessons most fathers can never teach and we truly appreciate your positive outlook on life and sport. This is how every man should aspire to act, emotional control is the key to success I truly believe it. These lessons should apply to every area of life no matter what situations you’re in
Yeah i feel this video sometimes its not even negative comments but its really your own internal demons you battle with, referring your negative qualities . Ive got that issue with hyperfixated on the negative and rarely looking at my positive traits and its a daily struggle but im greatly to still be here and not let my enemies or demons take my life through reacting to a negative with a negative
awesome, concise delivery of something im sure most people have yet to fully embrace you were the first fighting channel i found when exploring boxing and youre still my favorite, Shane!
I remember hearing this quote on a video "People tend to put a higher value on losses compared to their gains". I think it applies to what you say in this video. The negative things other people say to you impacts you more compared to the positive things you have done, even if the negative is only a small amount. We gotta make sure we focus on the good we do for others, and block out the negative BS from other people.
That's a powerful message right here, bro. I was literally dealing with this just yesterday. One of my biggest flaws is me letting people easily get in my head. I care too much about the opinions of other people, so much so that I'm easily in my feelings most of the time. I have siblings that troll me with little words and comments and my aggravated reactions are funny to them. That's because they KNOW I'm easy to to target. They know I care too much. I'm 30 years old and still have a hard time controlling my emotions. I take everything personally. Learning not to caere so much is a wonderful experience. That and reading my Bible more. The Armor of God is also meant to protect you mentally from the challenges you will face like these.
One thing I always keep in mind when dealing with internet folks, is that 'hurt people, hurt people.' These people going around online saying all this stuff; they're miserable inside. Many of them literally cannot help but spread their misery to others.
Well said Shane!!!! I have the same issue with trolls on Facebook when I comment on things I find a needs to comment , they'res always trolls waiting to pounce on anyones posts just to be bullies. Iv'e tried to keep it in my head to not sweat the little things because the stress ain't gonna get you nowhere but a headache. Good tip.... When things or people try to stress you tell yourself " It ain't no thing but a chicken wing " and let it faze away...
I worked at a residential treatment facility for teenagers with serious behavioral problems in my early 20s. I was called almost every slur that exists in the English language. I either had to learn to not take it personally or freak out. Most people lasted less than 6 months in that job. I worked there for 6 years. My wife is the only person who could hurt my feelings and she would have to dig deep to do it
I needed this bad. I take things too personal. There was a guy in my work van whose about 5'0 tall and is a drunk. Always talking alot of s*** and I always just let it go. One day he mentioned something about the way I drive and said something along the lines of 'Bruce Lee woulda done it better.' Then I knew it was getting personal. I ignored it still, my friend in the van told me later good job and don't worry about that little piece of crap. Low and behold, one night on a 3 day weekend, little man texts me in a drunken stupor about my wife, and what kinda man I need to be and my counseling and all kinds of crazy stuff. I wanted to really hurt this person. I train all the time and weight train and cardio as well. And this dude does nothing. Then i realized the most common Bruce Lee quote that we all know. Be Like Water. But this time it made sense. And I really really had to relish in that quote. As hard as it was not to step on this dude, I didn't. Fast forward he got himself kicked out the vanpool finally anyway for making fun of an autistic kid while in his drunken state, on our days off again. Shane is absolutely right. Control yourself. Because 99% of the time it's the negative person who is hurting inside. Peace yall Wu-Tang forever
Since 2012 I’ve been watching you man. I don’t how people can hate my first coach. Much love Shane! Appreciate all you’ve taught me. Later when I started attending mma gyms. Coach’s thought I was sandbagging them because of my clean movements (still not perfect tho) I had to explain to them…Shane Fazen, FightSmartTrav, And Jeff Chan were my OG coaches for years before attending the gym. You’re the 🐐.
One of the greatest life lessons I've learned from playing basketball was to tune out all the unnecessary noise. In those away games in high school, the crowd will be yelling all sorts of crazy things, including racial slurs. Great advice Shane! Keep up the great work!
Mr. Fazen, That was absolutely wonderful. What a great message that not only all of us can use in the gym but also in our daily lives. I have been following you for a while now and I love how you a such a positive individual and respect all martial arts. On a personal note, I started karate when I was 19 after seeing peers in my high school join our high school karate club. I joined a school in my area and some so called friends at that time put me down saying "Oh yeah what are you now a yellow belt? "It's gonna take you forever to get that black belt!" It fueled a fire in me but more so I did it for myself...31 years later and I am still practicing and teaching as well as coaching. Thanks again Shane. You are a true scholar and gentleman.👍🏽 P.S. Would love to see you do a collaboration with Nat Hearn (karate dude) on your channel.
You taught me proper form in boxing vs karate and linked up the two. I took up TKD in my youth and tot the bladed stance was the only rational stance to box. you tot me the importanceo of having both bladed and square stance and using the cheque hook in those instances. youre one of the best knowledge bank on the sweet science. take care man- Gen X'er here.❤
Shane I remember your videos helped me a ton with solo training ! Especially the one where you said when hitting the bag to block the last punch you throw . That was able to get me into the habit of blocking and keeping my hands up !
Shane, don’t let this get you worked up. Following you for the past five years, keep up the great martial arts content. Loved all the great work you’ve ever put out.
Ur cool Shane im proud of you send you love and strength ur a real one. No ones perfect, ur not Rodtang at fighting, but ur definitely one of the best versions of what you can be! Worthy of admiring and emulating
Really hit home with this vid, I just happened to have a very bad day at work from all the negative coworkers. I'm still learning to control my emotions especially now that im a 30 year old man , I've started mixed martial arts about a month ago so I definitely feel like I'm seeing some improvements.
Aw dude you still fighting! Man I haven't checked you out in years, just going through your playlist tryna find the video about putting in that gum shield as psychological protection, dude you're a don, thanks for helping me and a young I've been lucky enough to get mentor! Your work is good! Your beautiful face is evident of your self defense technique cheers 🥂
Always loved your page and have been watching you on and off for years! Honestly its unfortunate because the negative comments will garner attention. but just remember there's millions of us that like the channel. Thank you for your work!
I am a PE teacher with 30 years experience and a sports person all of my life. My opinion is that your content is solid, you present it well and you have natural talent as a pedagogue. You have good didactics and your methods work. In life, unfortunately the Dunning-Kruger effect is very well spread and strong in society at large. I have learned a lot from your channel. Thanks and keep going.
Been following since around 2011 Shane, I don't always agree with your decisions or methods but I'd never disrespect you, you've followed your dreams and that alone is worthy of respect.
100000% agreee everytime someone tries to get a reaction out of me, i make sure i completely deflect it and it makes them powerless. Takes practice ngl but its an amazing feeling once you get good at it. NOBODY should have the ability inflict negative vibes into your body. NOBODY!
Golden Life Advice Brother! This video is a blessing! Ignore the negative and focus on the positive. Life is too short to be anything but happy! Thank you very much! God bless you brother!🙏🙏
I've known shane for some time. As a martial artist & and fighter, he is so talented, skilled, knowledgeable, and super passionate about helping others. As a human being, he is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet. The most down to earth person you can have a conversation with. He's done so much for the martial arts community, it's really sad anyone can hate on someone like Shane and others who are just trying to help others.
I have been watching your content for at least 6+ years. probably one of the reasons i picked up my boxing gloves and applied myself in the boxing lessons. I wouldn't pay those losers no mind considering they are just random trolls on the internet.
I started watching you years ago when you were about to start create your own gym. I am genuinely happy to see how far you've come to have your own gym. Good going man!
Just the other day while chilling on the beach I picked up The Four Agreements again, and now it pops up hear totally unexpectedly. Great book that ties nicely with the message from this video.
I had the situation where a guy leaned into my punch, so it hit him harder, and he stared, throwing everything with heat. I had to tell him, "Hey, what's wrong with you? You ease off a bit. You ran into my punch." He calmed down, and then I never trained with him again. People these days just react, instead of contemplating a situation first.
One important thing to have in mind to reach this level of self awareness is to *be in peace with yourself* Being worried about other people opinions, actions and such is just an excuse for your brain to not focus on the pain of not be in peace with yourself. To reach this peace you have to be happy and satisfied with yourself; even if you dont have reached your goals or you are in a bad moment. Everything is on you. Your failures, your success... All on you, the haters and deplorable people are not even on the map.
Thank you for this. I think this has actually helped me more than your fight tips. That's saying something too cos I was just about to comment on your muay thai 101 video and bringing that swinging arm to your opposite shoulder to load up the roundhouse has given me a nice bump in power and helped get a better hip rotation. I posted my first boxing training video a couple weeks ago and was reluctant to upload my kicks because I have lost my form and flexibility. I will be uploading this week, thank you so much ✌️n❤(once my shins and right elbow have healed up a little 😂)
You were the first proper martial arts related channel i ever followed mate, and that was when I was a kid. You taught me what was proper martial arts that had to be given hard work to develop your own strength. I went from stuff like wing chun to muay thai purely because of you. Dont listen to these people mate. Your advice always has and always will be absolutely crucial for developing that missing part of mine, and many others kit that they're missing to go one step further.
Haven't been following your latest content, and I don't practice Muay Thai for about three years (fcking gym doesn't have a punch bag), but I really dug your videos when I was practicing it a while before. Your analytical stance and manner of communication show that you are a person who employs reason and is effective in pursuing an objective, analyzing details and not ignoring the bigger picture, treating a challenge as a problem to be solved. THAT MEANS: you do not preach something you know nothing about, you do not act on impulsivity or guess-work, you are not afraid of receiving constructive criticism. And for those reasons, alone, you have my respect. Thank you for producing content of good quality when people mostly just shit words out of their mouths. If everyone was a little bit like you, the world would be a better place. And from someone who doesn't by far control himself as much as one would want, thank you for reminding me of a very basic tenet to live by.
you literally sparred rodtang bro, that’s more than enough. Sometimes it is a challenge to identify why people want to get under you’re skin. You taught me how to spin wheel kick dawg. There’s absolutely no reason in any universe where you should listen to these haters that want things their way. One of the best. Keep going Shane, not only are you progressing but you are also progressing us.
Thanks for this video coach. People can really learn a lot from this. One thing that stood out to me was the example of Mcgregor vs Aldo that was some really good analysis. I aim to be a professional fighter and I wholeheartedly believe that it'll be useful to me and others who want to do the same. This is one aspect of fight sports (not fighting) that is often overlooked and this video was as useful as any of your "how to ..." or "5 ways to..." videos. Don't listen to overweight trolls that dwell in their mother's basement your videos have been helpful to me and thousands of others.
All martial arts have internal goals to attain within them, to build virtues of self control, self respect, and leather thick skin. If you only train your muscles and your mindset remains the same, you missed something. This is a great lesson on that. Thanks bro.
I admire how you flipped expectations by encouraging people on the receiving end of criticism to be stoic and inert about it, compared to most others who promote professional victimhood. Another reason for depression in my opinion is that people today have bigger egos, but volatile cores.
I think something people over look is self-acceptance. If you know who you are, your morals, values etc and accept it, then when someone says something you can look past it because you know its not reflective of who you are. Thanks Shane for all the years of information and dedication you put into your channel.
Even if you just made a difference in 1 persons life is already an achievement. And you can count me as one of them. Your delivery and teachings are just solid and reliable. Full of integrity. Keep it pushing my guy.
I learned nothing. Your advice was the same I heard from my 2nd grade teacher. But I did learn that the negative comments got to you.

The good people don’t take things personally, help each other, communicate, and remain humble.
Thats not always the case tho, What about mcgregor brother? 🙂
@@robbiej1343 there is always an exception, and when I say picked I mean as a training/sparring partner.
Just speaking based on my own experiences, the humble people in the gym = most experienced and most reliable.
@@shadevip yeahh mate your 💯 right, I wasn't trying to be rude or anything, there's always 1 hahah, I'm not sure why my comment was removed 🤔 doesn't matter
@@robbiej1343 No worries, I get what you meant. Ps. I can’t even see my own reply anymore, CZcams is so broken
@@robbiej13439/10 fighters just pretend to be cocky and ill mannered to sell more tickets. In real life they are humble, responsible and calm.
Connors career went down at the same time his ego got to his head.
Just need to say this:
You are the true definition of a Martial Artist.
SOMEONE LEFT UNFLUSHED DIARRHEA IN MY FRIENDS GYM AND HE WENT NUTS ,I CALMED HIM DOWN AND FLUSHED IT
🤣
That's terrible! 😂
I did it. Sorry.
(IF)I DID IT
Shit done it once myself
This man gives out better advice than 90 percent of youtubers
the book Shane showed "the Four Agreements" basically tells you that a negative comment will hurt you not when you hear it or read it, but when you agree to let it hurt you
the book breaks down how and why you unconsciously "agree" to let negative things do damage and how to break free of it
I really like the book, cant recommend it enough
Keep being you Shane! You been helping people with Self Defense and being efficient fighters!
Keep being you and helping the millions of people out there
My first introduction to martial arts was thanks to my dad, and he always told me something similar. "If you get into a fight because someone hurt your ego, you lost regardless of the outcome"
Your videos are great Shane. Keep up the good work :), millions of us enjoy and appreciate what you do.
Always remember:
How people treat you is THEIR karma; how you react is yours.
Because if you, I kept my amateur boxing career going bro, always watched you and still do
You're tips have really helped me as a martial artist, and I know they will continue to help me. Great point you made in this video, and it's so true. There aremean people out there, but also lots of great people. Just focus on the people that bring you up instead of tearing you down. You're awesome!
This is what a coach should be. Not only training for competition, but also training you for life. 💪👊
She had personal problems that were causing her to lash out like this, but you know something that david goggins said perfectly is ‘your never going to see a hater doing better than you’
And he was damn right 😂
Been following you since 2014 when I started training.
I love you shane please don't kick my ass 😢
I like you comment the most 🤗
Hey Shane, I started watching your videos about 13 years ago, I was 15 back then with a strong interest in all things martials arts related. Loved your content, it was informative, sometimes fun, always enjoyable, and it helped me get better at English (literally, I'm French and wasn't getting much out of my English classes, picked up a lot from youtube, expecially your channel haha, add that to your list of all the good things that you've helped with!)
Oh and it also helped me get better at fighting lol, still practicing to this day.
You've brought a lot to a lot of people, myself included, so thank you and just keep doing what you love! :D
I started watching you back in 2019 and kept learning how to box but the biggest thing I’ve tried to improve on and been most aware of is how to deal with the emotional pressure I feel like this channel and some other channels talking about human behavior and psychology and stuff like that have helped me to point out on self control and stuff before I was always the type
To be self destructive or the type to implode because of the lack of attention I was putting into my own mind and emotions I still have my days when the negative gets to be but I think videos like these are always good to bring me back to earth you know like a reminder that trying to be calm is the correct choice
The negativity never stops in this life so I guess the biggest fight a martial artists faces is all mental huh
Such a inspiration man. Thank you for everything you’ve helped me learn and understand physically and mentally❤️🙏
I'm glad to hear this message. It's an important one to keep in focus, especially when using someone else's body as a training dummy
awesome, concise delivery of something im sure most people have yet to fully embrace
you were the first fighting channel i found when exploring boxing and youre still my favorite, Shane!
What incredible advice. Not just fight tips that you're giving, but life tips.
Dude thanks for the videos I’ve been watching since I was 13 I’m 18 now and I’ve wanted to get stronger thanks man
Your content has always been so succinct, eloquent, and thoughtful. Thank you for articulating such an invaluable component of martial arts!
My wife is the only person who could hurt my feelings and she would have to dig deep to do it
Love you coach Shane. Thank you for all the years of smiling and inspiration.
Peace yall
Wu-Tang forever
Your mind is the most powerful weapon you'll ever have. If you can change the way you think, you can change the way you feel.
Thank you, I needed that reminder. It’s really cool to see your growth and evolution over the decades. Inspirational.
This is why martial arts is just as much about the mind as it is about the body.
Stoics would 100% agree with your words Shane ! 💪🙏
NOBODY!
No martial arts or combat sports here yet this is still a " fight tip" to fight against irrationality and ignorant. Thank you, Shane !
let’s not let the negativity bring us down. And remember: Bullies suck!
Golden Life Advice Brother! This video is a blessing!
Ignore the negative and focus on the positive. Life is too short to be anything but happy! Thank you very much! God bless you brother!🙏🙏
Dawg, you have been giving so much good advice, don’t stop bro.
Dude! I’m a fan. I’ve got 15 years No gi BJJ and 6 years Muay Thai. You have been very helpful! People are gonna be haters. So what! F em.
When I was a kid I learned so much from you! I still do to this day, I actually should watch more. You are an OG. Thanks bro.
Four agreements are the simplest thing on earth to understand and the hardest thing on earth to actually practice.
To be honest, hard sparring has a place in training. Just no hard hits to the head and be covered in pads.
Great video. Well done. Filled with wisdom about fighting, social media and life in general. 🥊
When i starts watching CZcams daily, you're one of the youtuber i subscribed 1st. Many positive sharing from u. Thanks Shane.
One important thing to have in mind to reach this level of self awareness is to *be in peace with yourself*
Being worried about other people opinions, actions and such is just an excuse for your brain to not focus on the pain of not be in peace with yourself.
Great advice, Shane. I really like your fight tips. Keep doing what you do.
Without control and discipline, no matter how strong you are, you will always slip. Thanks bro.
When you don’t take things personally, you can even get a good laugh from it all. There’s a time to fight, and that time is rare.
Who gave you a gym? lol you grinded and earned it more than most people on YT. Keep it up.
- Six Monkey Martial Arts
All martial arts have internal goals to attain within them, to build virtues of self control, self respect, and leather thick skin. If you only train your muscles and your mindset remains the same, you missed something. This is a great lesson on that. Thanks bro.
I'd definitely prefer getting cyber bullied than physically bullied.
Life is way too short to dwell on the opinions of others.
I live for what I love, not for what others think I should.
You’re a real one for this. Good stuff Shane. I wish my coaches gave the 30% rule in sparring.
Was actually just thinking about being more active on Instagram with my kickboxing career and have been way too nervous to do it. Needed to hear this
I admire how you flipped expectations by encouraging people on the receiving end of criticism to be stoic and inert about it, compared to most others who promote professional victimhood. Another reason for depression in my opinion is that people today have bigger egos, but volatile cores.
Been watching you for years and met you at a bellator fight. Another good lesson, keep up the good work brotha.
Love you man , been watching for about ten years, one of the realest nicest guys ever saw on CZcams
