Thanks for showing us your solution with this canopy. Last week I've built something similar using old GFK tent poles and a 100W flexible solar cell :-)
Tks 'Joisy'! Bought one week after your first post. shoved 1/2 in pvc (plugged it) down inside seat mesh of my TT Rover to mount it, replaced cord w/paracord. Deflects Georgia rain nicely. ;-) JaYoe!!
Great DIY project. I want to do something like this. My only real concern is wind. You said it did well. Thank's for making this video and sharing with us. Subscribed.
I made mine for my Greenspeed recumbent and followed your plan mostly. Modified the para cord so I have three ropes coming from centre as there was a lot of sway coming down big hills with the winds. The other two cords attach to my side poles with snatch hooks.. works well and will be using it on a big trip this winter. Would encourage anyone with a trike to install these sun canopies. Great for Australia where I live. Good to see you again too. You have great music and videos.
I think I might have to use two Kayak canopies add a section in the middle of one as I have the Greenspeed Magnum XL as I am tall with the pedal boom out all the way no matter give the sewing machine some exercise :) its a great idea the Veltop is around AU$900.00 granted it does have a lot of fairing in it and that is extensive to manufacturer
I'm glad it's working for you to, I know I need to make more videos, but between covid and the new baby, finding time and opportunity together are hard. but I will have new videos at some point.
Even in far away Australia I found the same thing on an Aussie Ebay site costing about the same in Aussie dollars thanks I would never have thought of using a Kayak Canopy _Necessity_ is the mother of invention so true!
I have been looking at Big Leaf and Veltop then stumbled across your kayak Bimini idea. I watched the Erie Canal series of videos and saw the canopy stayed in place pretty well. It did look a little lower in Episode 10 but that might have been the weight of the solar panels. Anyway my kayak top is on order - due next week and I will be using it to keep the sun off my aged skin (I was a red head before turning a sort of balding grey). Thanks for the canopy videos - without them I would still be thinking "can I afford a Big Leaf" and not having a cover for my upcoming late summer Greenspeed Magnum tour of northern Tasmania.
on the last day, I actually packed some thing heavy I found on the side of the trail inside the canopy, so it was hanging a bit lower, but with about 25 to 30 miles with all that weight inside it, and once I pulled it out, the canopy was good as new.
I have watched your canopy videos over and over. Copied your parts list. Took photos of the kayak pole holders, etc. I finally came with my own version of a canopy for an upright trike. Would love to send you pix. I could not have done it, if it weren't for your help. Thank you so much for the inspiration!
you wont regret it. for the desert sun you may want to modify it a bit, as it tends to ride pretty high, the lower and closer to your hear you can get it, the more sun protection it will give you.
I also recommend since I have a very similar set-up, but my mounding hardware consisted of reflective paracord and pvc fitting which I also attach lighting onto.
Enjoy all your videos. I am in the process of installing the same top on my Trident Trikes Stowaway 2. The seat is a little different so I need to make some modifications, it looks good on the test fit though. :)
Very cool idea! Does it still hold well after a few months? We just recently started exploring the trike world, and I came across your channel, hope to see more videos soon :)
I have been using my kayak canopy (with my own setup because Greenspeed trike ^^; ) for almost six months now and have thoroughly enjoyed it's protection. Ever since I saw the first setup/tutorial video for your kayak canopy I just had to try it. I have noticed a slight decrease in speed, but nothing I'm bothered with (not really a speed demon ^_^)
it handles wind really well, as far as drag it's really hard to tell because I'm don't tend to ride very fast, but it doesn't seem to take any more effort to pedal with or without it.
there is a list in the description of the video of me putting it together, czcams.com/video/fArz2U9eIn4/video.html plus another video just after showing how to cut the tent poles shorter.
you can watch the build video here, czcams.com/video/fArz2U9eIn4/video.html the parts list is in the description of that video, there is another video just after that one that shows how to make it shorter, and change the cord.
Thanks for showing us your solution with this canopy.

i wonder if I can use this idea for my upright tricycle. Thanks for sharing this video.

I'd like to see photos of how you mounted it, seems pretty cool.

I'm glad it works for you, you should post photos of it on the facebook recumbent pages.

you're going to love it. Thank you for watching.

@@ihoppoet I recall you saying that sometimes you used the canopy as a pocket. Thanks for the reply. Still waiting for my kayak topper to arrive.
Love the dual use...I hope it can handle a 100 w cigs panel, too...

I'm glad I was of help, I'm on facebook and instagram at ihoppoet, so you can send them there, I would love to see it.
@@ihoppoet I found you on FB.
@@jlynch877 i saw that you sent a friends request, when I went to accept it, the request was gone.
Time to go for it. Summer is coming! I live in the desert where it gets really hot and brutally sunny.
you wont regret it. for the desert sun you may want to modify it a bit, as it tends to ride pretty high, the lower and closer to your hear you can get it, the more sun protection it will give you.
@@ihoppoet I will keep that in mind. Thanks.

Thank you for watching, you wont regret installing it, it rocks.
What I'm thinking of is a light weight solar panel on top!
Thanks a lot. Hey wondering about your headlight what brand is it?
Nice job

You're welcome. Thank you for watching.
Great cross usage mod
Cheers
Thank you. I didn't come up with the idea, but it workd great.
what size canopy. Are they all the same size. We have catlike trail.
I think they are all the same size.
Nice video.....one question....how about wind resistance and drag while riding with the canopy?
it handles wind really well, as far as drag it's really hard to tell because I'm don't tend to ride very fast, but it doesn't seem to take any more effort to pedal with or without it.
What is the hard wear I need
there is a list in the description of the video of me putting it together, czcams.com/video/fArz2U9eIn4/video.html plus another video just after showing how to cut the tent poles shorter.
How do you download a parts list?
you can watch the build video here, czcams.com/video/fArz2U9eIn4/video.html the parts list is in the description of that video, there is another video just after that one that shows how to make it shorter, and change the cord.
Are you selling these by chance? I have a terra trike Rambler
no I'm not selling them. the only tool I used was a drill. if you don't have a drill, I highly recomend having one, they come in handy all the time.
I should add that I do not own tools, haha
