- Im changing head cylinder solenoid gasket on my 2008 honda accord 3.5 V6.
It's a same procedure for year 2008 to 2012 3.5 V6 engines
Tools needed:
Flat head screwdriver
10 mm socket
12 mm socket
6 inch extension bar
Ratchet to fit sockets
Thanks for the tutorial, it really helped
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the video I'm going to work on my car 👍
Good luck. Just make sure not to tighten up the bolt too fast and there’s no residue left on strainer.
I had this same car, and same issue back in 2017. Lost an alternator. The dealership service dept. warned me about the issue, but I declined. The leak seemed very minor. I degreased the engine and the valve body, and the leak seemed to not return. About a year later, Lost another alternator. couldn't find just the gaskets anywhere. Hell, I never found gaskets anywhere that looked like what you ended up with. I did not know about rock auto then. Anyway, took it to the dealer, and the repair in the service manual must say you need to remove the valve cover, because I had a few new valve cover bolts on my engine, lol. The repair cost me A LOT more than your mechanic quoted you. At the time, I would have gladly paid that much! Lots of dealers replace the valve and the gaskets because they say otherwise people come back with another leak, I don't know if that's true. They sealed the valve with LOTS of grey looking silicone seal. Few years later the AC compressor went out on that car, and my mechanic quoted me half the value of the car to fix, so I sold it. I should have kept it for another few years esp with gas being so expensive now.
Thanks for sharing that. It was an easy job but some auto shops were just trying to make their money.
Save yourself some time and pain. Replace the complete solenoid with the Honda solenoid. Replacing the gasket fixed the leak but you are going to get the p3497 code. I ended up taking the thing apart three times counting replacing the valve cover gasket that did not need replacing. Just a word to save you all some time and effort. New solenoid fixed everything. $150 from one of the online Honda dealers.
Thanks for the comment. I helped me for that time being… but I’ll remember that for next time.
Do you have the link for the Honda online dealer?? I want to replace the whole thing as well because I don't want to waste time plus alternators 🤣
Did my message come through??
Sorry that message was meant for you bro
@Bill Lackey
Thanks for video and tips
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the video. Was looking all night for a video with my exact engine and problem 🙏🙌
Quick question, do you have the part numbers for the gaskets?
Also about the engine light question that was asked. Will I have a check engine light after I replace this, do you know how to avoid it. I really dread that light lol
Lawrence. I bought that on eBay. I just wrote what is the title of the video. CEL will come back if it’s not installed properly. In my case CEL went off but came back for a different issue (engine timing) after a few weeks.
The gaskets have to go in dry. Don't use any kind of sealant because the sealant will squeeze out and clog the tiny ports in the valve.
Yes. You’re right that cause clog those strainers if sealant gets out of the mold. In my case I did what I showed it worked for me for the time I had the car.
Do you know if using sealant like how my mechanic did … would cause my engine to have a rough idle and engine vibration ? After changing my solenoid gasket it started doing that the next day . The rpm is normal tho its just the engine vibration
@@stevent27 yes sometimes they use sealant and comes out of sides which can clog up the strains
@@stevent27Did the mechanic use a Honda or cheap Dorman part?
@@n9wox all i remember is that mechanic chamged gasket & it was still bad but then i just changed the entire solenoid and that fixed everything
Hi question, do you need to clear the alarm code in obd scanner so that it will not pop up the code
Yes that or leave the positive terminal of battery off for 10 mins
I've heard the EBAY gaskets do not fit properly and the leak soon. Have you had good luck with them? Thanks!
Mine worked fine. I would say just check for any cracks before installing that’s what normally leaks. Also, check for the manufacture’s warranty if it’s over a year (meaning it was tested).
My guy used ten two for two bolts 😂😂😂
Once you changed did you get check engine on dashboard
First time I installed it no, I had to re-install it for the CEL to go off. What code is yours showing?
@@khawarha
I haven't installed yet my gasket still on order I just video if you in install non OEM gasket you will get check engine since Honda not selling this gasket separately
My car is honda Accord cuope 2008 v6
@@redbaron2181 yes. Honda does not selling that gasket, however, they sell complete part which is in 100s of $$. I did that I was leaking oil where gasket is. Just make sure gasket doesn’t have cracks and also torquing the bolts equally when installing.
@@redbaron2181 it should be similar. I did it on my 08 accord sedan.
Anyone know why my engine started having a vibration and rough idle after its fully warm and at a stop?? mechanic changed my solenoid gasket then this started happening
Where did you get your gasket?
@@khawarha a local auto parts store called total automotive but it did fix my leak correctly that was dripping into the alternator .. but after fixin that now my engine just started vibrating or like idling rough
Hey how did you end up fixing this I’m having the same issue?
@@aaryanpai7906 ifixed it by changing the whole solenoid
You've probably got it fixed by now but I'm curious if you did an idle reset after the repair.
After i replaced that gasket only, the code p3497 showed up when i was driving on the freeway with the cruiser control on, then I have replaced the whole part and still the code keeps showing up, After I remove the battery the code go away, but in the morning when it’s colder it’s shows again, then i remove the battery then go away no problems all day until the next morning
Usually that part comes as whole (seal and sensor), I had a same issue with the engine light coming on and off. After my further research I found that it was associated with the timing of the engine. But leak was fixed in my case.
@@khawarha did you fix the timing of the engine ? Was the engine light fixed?
Thank you. That sounds reasonably, because if I pretend to start the motor before a complete staring, the light won’t show up. I will make a research on that
@@sandrohernadez1950 No I didn’t fix timing. But I didn’t have issues afterwards.
I just had th timing belt replaced... I hope I don't have any Codes when I install my new gaskets.
@@misterstealth9237 let us know please
What's the gasket part number?
Honestly, I just searched it on EBay.
Is It possíble to delete the VCM?
That idk.
There's bunch of videos here for that, many are for Honda Odessey, same basic V6 . Also try searching 'VCM muzzler'
@@daveclark8337 ok thanks
Do you mean disable the VCM dropping the number of cylinders? Yes, buy a "SVCM" (from Canada I think). It works perfectly far as I can tell, have had it in for a few years now, always stays in v6 mode, never eco.
Why not to turn on the motor for one hour??
I didn’t just I firstly wanted the seal to sit then turn on the engine, warm it up and settle in.
Mine leaked and was dripping on my alternator causing it to go out.
I had the same issue. I used the compressed air to dry it off but instead it went in the alternator.
@@khawarha I tried gasket sealer but still leaked. I’m trying Lucas oil stop leak now. I’m tired of putting money into it. There’s 170k on it now
@@Itsme83. I hope that work. If the same thing is leaking I would say replace what I did. You can reduce the amount of leak that way.
@@Itsme83. It's an easy fix. Do NOT use gasket sealer or stop leak. The port holes are tiny and any leak fix additive will stop them up. The part comes off in 5 minutes, spray with brake cleaner and wipe clean with microfiber rags and Q-tips in the grooves. Do NOT use any silicone gasket sealer. These two gaskets are meant to be reassembled dry.
Do you have a link for the parts on ebay? C'mon, man!
Type this on EBay: NEW Cylinder Head Solenoid Gasket VTEC For 2008-2012 Honda Accord 15815-R70-A
@@khawarha I looked for it in Amazon and found it right away... thank you. Cost.... approx $7.31. Receiving on Friday, can't wait to start driving my car again.
@@misterstealth9237 sounds good. Happy to help. Lastly, make sure you’re over-torquing it. It’s made out of aluminum so it’s easy to break.
Why not start the car for one hour?
Just take the solenoid off there is enough room for to wiggle it out
I was waiting to see this comment. It sure is
