Damn, this could have rivaled Ridge Racer on PS1.
but there's ridge racer 64, it's awesome!
@@ElsweyrDiego …But this would have possibly been an N64 Exclusive. Which we all know that console definitely needed more of.
If there's one thing the N64 had, it was a saturation of racing games. Good racing games too. But possibly too many. And likely, there are only so many racing niches that can be filled before its considered unprofitable to release another into the mix.
And there were already so many console exclusive racing games that killed: beetle adventure racing, f zero x, extreme g, gt 64, mrc, penny racers, cruisin series, rush 2, top gear series, wdc, just to name some of the favorites. It's hard to see how there would've been space for a game like this imho, even if it were really good.
and it looks a lot like this game@@ElsweyrDiego
I hope a late build gets released at some point. The game looks good from the footage.
If you are curious, the Japanese video's (rough) translation is ...
* Nintendo 64's authentic racing game Limit is finally on sale
* 64 high-speed CPUs provide speed and air resistance real-time
* Players can choose from more than 10 different machines with many modified parts.
* Tune to your liking, and there are five circuit courses, with times and changes, changing all the time.
* There are countless strategies
* I have a regular license, please play.
I still don't know what the hell happened on mid - 98.
I was on vacation, got suddenly advised inside into some sort of development event/meeting and there it was: REV - LIMIT running on actual 64DD(!). I had never before even seen 64DD, but there it was up & running. -I was asked what i think about the game? I was impressed. Looked and felt a lot like some sort of Ridge Racer -game. Almost like semi -sequel to Rage Racer. There was a lot of cars on screen at once (almost like nascar). Resolution looked really decent enough, not blurry at all.
This has bothered me ever since. Little i knew, that it was the first and last time i saw this game on my own eyes, running on actual N64😲.
Honestly, N64 racers are something else. There are some absolute gems in there and I'm glad that this is getting recognition now
Always nice to see new N64 materials you rock Tony
This looks really good for early N64 and appears to have been pretty close to finished. It seems insane that it wasn't released.
This game is engraved in my brain because of the preview and photos I saw in the magazine at the time.
Consistently the best hidden gem of video game content on CZcams
That guy in Japan still has it.
[shakes fist at calendar] Stupid A-Arch weather...
I hope Eternal Darkness N64 build leaks next!
And the original Conker
@@videostash413 And Earthbound 64, those two are most needed.
I heard that they were working on an N64 Resident Evil exclusive, using the same technology they used to port Resident Evil 2 to the N64 (but now without the loading times, aka, the door opening animation), called Resident Evil 0. They eventually ported this over to the Gamecube. I thought it would have been really nice to have Eternal Darkness, RE0, and Dinosaur Planet (which became Star Fox Adventures on the GC), all released on the N64.
@@theresapimentacointheglove8760 I'd love to play finished versions of those.
That would be best leak ever!
I hope the dump shows up if only because I want a clean rip of that music. There's so much going on in the track playing in the footage.
This game looks awesome! I have to think of both SEGA Rally and Ridge Racer but on the Nintendo 64.
Hopefully the prototype is still somewhere.
The song thats playing in the video sounds like its from Destruction Derby. It reminds me of the track “love”.
I just read about this game in an early N64 magazine and went to find it, only to find out it was cancelled! Sad as it looked really good! Great timing with this video so could find out more!
Always amazing to see new n64 stuff!
00:47 Rarch or Smarch the 13th month 😱
Lousy Smarch weather....
More specifically, it was released on the eleventeenth of the month.
It's metric
When I think of arcade classic racing games, I _still_ have Rev Limit pop into my head alongside Ridge Racer, Screamer and Daytona whenever I think of examples of "That look." Seta had that aesthetic going _strong_ with this one, even though it was never finished. While the 64 would have a bunch of fine, fun racers outside the "cart" racer subgenre, I still really wanted the console to have a great arcade racer to sit alongside those. I enjoyed stuff like Stunt Racer 3000 when I rented it, but it doesn't _look_ like an arcade classic. Rush 2049, Beetle Adventure Racing, Top Gear Overdrive... all fine, but none of which had that bright, arcadey, Japanese (or Japan-inspired, in Screamers' case) flair to them like the arcade racers on rival consoles. Even Ridge Racer 64 felt like too little, too late, and frankly, felt like a bit of a hand me down or a VERY GOOD _imitation_ of the real thing. The 64 could've really used Rev Limit if you ask me.
Have you heard of “Test Drive Rally”? Infogrames canceled it at 95% back in 1999. Scandalous as it looked so promising.
This looks so cool for the N64 standards, it's a shame that never got released.
Maybe one of the developers will release a playable build now that the game has been rediscovered. That way we don’t have to wait for the prototype to be dumped.
A japanese channel have the game prototype but he still don't repond the comments about preservation.
0:30 You just reminded me of the N64 Panel De Pon Prototype that also was shown off on video and hasn't been.........dumped.
I was looking forward to this game back in those days.
Do you have any history of this game’s development and if so would you consider making a longer video talking about its history?
always love to see lost media getting new footage or information , makes me think how many great gems we could have missed
Nice to see that another unreleased N64 was found 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I remember seeing a couple preview screenshots for this game in GameFan February 1997 issue with Mario Kart 64 on the cover.
This actually looks really cool.
looks similar to MRC multi racing championship or Gt 24 on saturn
Wow I remember reading about this game in 1990s N64 Magazines
Rev limit is my dream😢
I would've had fun with this. I grew up with my 64 and love arcade racers. Looks a lot like Ridge Racer.
H4G on a Thursday afternoon? Don't mind if I do.
But still no roms exist for this one?
No😓
A prototype rom exist. Some rich dude bought it at an auction in 2017 and said he wasn't going to dump the rom for us losers!!!
@@jabarijones2257 the fact, is not public release 😢
I know nobody ever talks about it, but I hope you guys or somebody else finds and dumps the unreleased N64 Infogrames game Jest. It looked like it could have been an interesting platformer as the variety of tools and powers you could use sounded amazing. I definitely think had it came out, it would have been one of the N64's best hidden gems.
Really cool to find lost n64 games
there were too many generic similar 3d racing and fighting games at this time 1997 1998 on ps1 and n64.
was thinking the same. how do so many people say they remember reading about this game? lol
@@michaelpeters78probably because in the early days of the N64 when it was announced there was so few games so for those around at the time it's easy to remember games that got cancelled then rather than ones later in the systems life. I remember this as it got quite a bit of coverage in one or two magazines here in the UK at the time.
Reminds me of GT64 kind of. I love that game (even though I know it sucks).
I want you to star in a reboot of Evil Dead.
Yeah this is actually the one "proper" n64 I was looking forward to but never came out 😅
Lousy rArch weather
This game would have blown my mind back in the day. Looks good!
Again, it's another racing game that super inflates the speed. It says 250 km/h ( a lot, ~155 mph) but the car seems to take half a second to travel across its own length (at 1:58). And it's traveling a closed curve , too
Thankfully mpeg preserved motion over clarity
i want more footage e3
I do really appreciate videos like this, I really do, but c'mon, this is a publically sold magazine that was released in 1997 -- it is not "new" footage... now, if someone were to get that prototype dumped and record video of that, that would indeed be new.
Why in the world would they not dump the game. Come on.
To torture us
Damn it looks so clean and comfy. It's like enhanced vibes I get from Gran Turismo 2.
I remember reading about that game it looked good
Looks kinda boring for a N64 racing game, i mean, this is the console that had stuff like Beetle Adventure Racing, San Francisco RUSH, South Park Racing, etc. But id still be into playing it. Thanks Hard4Games man.
Damn new stuff that's really old lost stuff is cool
Love that music being played haha also that girl talking is HAAAWT
I remember this!
Wow.
cool footage of a cancel nintendo 64 game.
That's it, damn Tony way to keep my amusement. I'm going to PAX
The frame rate in this game was too smooth for the N64. It didn't meet the slide show expectations. Probably cancelled to not make other games look bad.
This game was being developed by Seta with the intention of using it as a showcase for the Alec64 arcade hardware which was a Nintendo 64 for arcade use.
What makes you believe that the game developers weren't putting extra effort in the custom programming side?
Also before this game iirc Seta had not made a 3d graphics game at all so they were inexperienced in 3d which can have budgets balloon up and the technical challenges increase as well.
is the game lost or not found?
can someone add translated closed captioning please?
My first thoughts are ridge racer
Anyone remember that one?
The sense of speed in these old games where incredible, you can really feel those 245 mph! lol, no.
It's most likely in kph so not that drastic
Earthbound 64 was going to be like this during the buggy driving areas but have enemies on the track probably the full map of earthbound was a giant on road offroad track that got you to different places also the loading a building look good in this game also earthbound had a feature to get knocked off the buggy and fighting enemies was done in so super advanced pause menu but for earthbound 64 being able to go inside the buildings and talk to characters i think the cutscene did alot for the game
rArch 1997
where can i get it?
That is the point, no one can't. Only a japanese channel from japan have the prototype.
She cute tho
Nahh looks more like Michael Jackson after alot more surgery's
@@Lostworld12355 That's Shiori from Tokimeki Memorial. The fact they never translated that game to English for the PS1 causes me so much pain. It's the dating sim I'll never get to play since I can't speak Japanese. It's my white whale. : (((((((((((( the guy who made Castlevania Symphony of the Night made Tokimeki Memorial.
"seta corporation"..... sounds awfully close to "sega corporation".....🤔
Yes, and so did the Seika Corporation (which got out of video games and went more into industrial machinery). As for the Seta Corporation, they would come to be owned by Aruze and would stop making games after 2004.
@@GreatMewtwo oic, thx!
She was cute.
Ridge Daytona 64, everybody played this game, fake news
lol if sega rally was on n64??
Hey, where's the rom, oops..... 🤭😆🤣
Wahoo 3rd comment (2nd was my reply to the first)
First Comment?
Second comment??
Second!
🏆
3th comment.
6rd comment@@justz00t48
That's it? Where's the rest of the video? I thought you were going to at least talk about the game for a little bit and give the history behind why it was canceled. But instead you just show the footage and then abruptly end the video right when I thought it was just starting? Seriously? What a disappointment.
Lot of Dumping on this channel, Watch your step.
