- One of the most scrappy games in Penn State football history, if not the most, came against the Fighting Illini in a home game during the 2006 season. Penn State escaped with a win of course, but the visitors were only a two-win team all season. And with the offense sputtering like it had for much of the season, it seemed to be even worse in this one. Luckily, if you like to watch defense and good special teams, then this game is for you. First year starter safety Anthony Scirrotto had the game of his life; and coupled with a big day for the linebackers and punter Jeremy Kapinos, the Lions could breathe a sigh of relief after the final gun on this one sounded.
Penn State's Top Performers:
Paul Posluszny: 13 tackles, 1 Sack, Forced Fumble
Dan Connor: 12 tackles, 1 Sack
Anthony Scirrotto: 6 tackles, 2 Int., 3 PD, 1 Kick Return TD
Jeremy Kapinos: 8 punts, 365 yards (45.6 yard average) 4 inside 20 YL
Penn State moved onto a 5-3 mark for the season with the win over Illinois. The Fighting Illini would fall to 2-6 before rounding out the year with a 2-10 record and a last place finish in the Big Ten.
6:24 I remembered Justin King being fast, but I can't believe he tracked down Mendenhall. Insane footrace on a football field.
Pierre Thomas and Mendenhall. Didn't realize Illinois rolling with 2 NFL backs.

Absolutely! After watching this game the casual fan may have thought he was a superstar for this defense.
@@arc-lite I think he was All Big 10 that year as a sophomore. I was there at the time. I remember when he was involved in that big brawl off campus when he and his gf got jumped. That was a wild time.
@@nancyj795 Haha, I think I remember hearing about that brawl. I was a student at Lock Haven back then, just 40 minutes down route 26.
@@arc-lite I met him twice. He was actually a very nice guy and good student, but he and several other players were charged with multiple felonies from that brawl. The people who jumped him and his gf were convicted and Scirrotto got most of the charges dismissed according to his Wikipedia page. Joe ended up making him a team Captain if I recall.
Scirotto definitely had a great game, but he also got trucked by Mendenhall on that big run, lol.
And Scirotto slammed it up the Illini's butts with the safety kickoff return for a td, lol, lmao, and 2 key int's lol, lmao, lol, lmao.
@@dougalmacrobbie1918 Hey, I acknowledged his great game! Lol. Both things are true.
