2024 folks? Timeless absolutely timeless ❤
Just dropped into my head in work today, they were amazing 👏
Who cares what year it is when you got timeless music 😊
If you had to describe Ian and the blockheads in three words. ?? BEST OF BRITISH pure class don’t take life seriously we are all returning to the ground.
Im lucky enough to have a ticket for August 3rd at Shepherd's Bush Hall, which is the old Paris Theater from yonks ago. Cant wait !
If they dont play this at my funeral then im not gonna speak to anyone there ever again.......
This makes me proud to be British.
Thankyou GOD.......for giving us Ian Dury.
an older bloke with polio . leg irons and a stick and the world loved him . he did more to advance disabled peoples lives than any charity ever could . he made being different "normal" . my hero . RIP Ian .
Loved him., still do
Ian and the Blockheads could it get any better!
@@denisghirardello8279 no it can't!!!lol
I liked em before I heard them , back in the seventies, loved the name . Then I heard them baught every single I could get pocket money for . Hit me , still has its price tag on it 1 pound 25 pence , stockton hmv shop , happy days.
and a long time before "The Last Leg"
“I could be the ticket man at Fulham Broadway Station”..genius
I’m 52 now. Still stands up - we pine for what could have been..
What a bass player holds it all together!
A song that applies to whats going on in Britain right now.
Quite probably the finest backing band to ever walk the earth....
Well they went together inseparable, ian was a true prodigy, intelligent, articulate and funny.
damn right! superb band!
Yes and all of them had a first class apprenticeship during the early mid 70s pub rock scene
undoubtedly mate
@@aldershot5100 Yep. And I saw them a few times in those pubs. Stunning. :)
For my ears this is my favourite dury song..so 80s but yet also very timeless..
Quality music....better than people thought
Ian would have made a great prime minister.Gone but never forgotten
i am an disabled, alcoholic, former casino dice dealer... this is great. THANK YOU !!! should-a, could-a, wood-a is ridiculous.... this was a fun time in my life....rockettebob in reno
A brilliant poet who knew how to bang out a tune. RIP Ian.
Great lyrics, great tunes, great virtuosity of the band and the charismatic Ian Dury out front. ID & The Blockheads were a wonderful group.
Sat in the front row at the Brighton Centre and marvelled at Ian Dury. My daughter Louise was next to me and she was thinking Oh My God what is she going to do! I was in absolute Heaven and now at 78 I play this on a day of terrible news but this takes my mind off all the awful news! So miss you Ian. Wish you were still around. You are so beautifull.. Jillian.
I was going to comment that it was the first gig I went to ,1978 aged 8, went and met him after and still have a signed poster by the band, good to know I was not the only 8 year old into sex and drugs and rock and roll....
Brighton centre as well...forgot to say...
Ian would be your age now 😘
Timeless,..speaks to a new generation.
Man was a poet 🙏🇮🇪
A wordsmith a ENGLISH LEGEND!!😊😊😊 R.I.P.
What a stunning song!
Secretly bought new boots and panties when I was 11 years old 1979. Had to listen to it on headphones. My mum and dad didn't approve of Ian. But I loved him and the blockheads.
Did they fit OK
@Tombro1856 on the turntable yes perfectly.
We all know what you get upto in your spare time. Don't make you a bad person though. Well not much.
@@dalfog2468 Great comment.
Liked this nearly the first time i heard it. Wished i could get it but no-one else liked it in my family. Had to wait till i was working to be able to find the single of it in a second-hand shop. Not sorry i bought it, it's still great, the best one Ian Dury ever did.
Ah listen to "There ain't been some clever bastards" just brilliant.
His backing Band where numero Uno 😎
The more I listen to this, the more I realise what a masterpiece it is.
Welcome aboard 😀
I've been on board since the seventies mate. @@philbarnes7046
Yea it's top class
✅👌👌
Not a waste, he lived his life to the fullest.
I saw Ian Dury and The Blockheads in Concert with Lou Reed a long time ago, Lou was pissed about the sound but Ian Dury and The Blockheads were Great! :-)
What an incredible vault of talent. The musicianship is soooooooo tight. Fucking brill.
Top bloke top top band and phenomenal lyrics, never got to see them but bought their music.
Ian Dury was a one of a kind legend. The bass player was awesome. Always great, funky, driving bass lines.
Norman Watt Roy.
Unbelievable track.. Tribe called quest anyone... Shows the man's genius...
Ummmm what?
Ian and his Blockheads …the Stranglers ….the best of that period of music
No doubt.
Norman Watt-Roy is a rhythm machine.
What a intelligent guy, you don’t get lyrics like this today.
One of his best among many songs.Great tunes smith and lyricist.
Ian's life mattered.
Fantastic band.
What a band great musicians great memories ❤😊
What an intro
What a rhythm section
What a tune
Not a waste & I don’t mind…
Ian Dury was so cool. Everything about him in real life proved it.
The GENIUS INSANITY of Ian and the Blockheads! As I get deeper into his music, the more I get blown away!
Good he was something different
Agree. I don't even like the style of his music (Jazz-Funk / Pub-Rock) but I still own everything he did. For me, he's up there with the best ever lyricists and as a performer, second to none.
This could be played as the song of my life
Listening in2023, still sounds great.
Ian Dury still greatly missed! Only fitting that he be celebrated once again on what would "incredibly have been his 81st Birthday"!! Ian was always one of the "most accessible of disability campaigners"!! And may he "forever" RIP!!!
In an era when punk bands were thrown together overnight and could barely platly their instruments, The Blockheads were amazing musicians. Fronted by a lyrical genius, what a mixture.
Truly cool song
Bought this aged 12, quality.
And here I am, in Brazil in 2021, still listening to this on a regular basis.
Nothing wasteful about this guy's life!
He was unique!
Missed but still enjoying Ian's great talent. Just sad he's not still here with us.
Had his finger on the pulse of life. The best
Quality, front to back, left to right.
i was like 13 yr old young. Ian Dury made lives better.
That bass player is bloody great
Ian Drury was EXTREMELY intuitive...he could go into a dark noisy room and point out any weak, nervous, shy or insecure people within seconds...he was a heat seeking missile and an OUTSTANDING performer.
When?
Who wouldn't go back...fantastic times..
Everything about this is great. Ian was just amzing.
That line including 'Fulham Broadway Station' is sublime. What a brilliant lyricist.
That line does me!
This song has stood the test of time. It is totally brilliant and feels even better than when it came out.
Yeah, absolutely.
The music and lyrics of this song are without equal. Ian Dury was a fantastic lyricist and the Blockheads as a band were as tight as a drum. Together they were unstoppable....fantastic
Better than anything since. Peerless
Always feels very 'old London'....
Working away from home at the time staying in a shed That was good enough for builders in the day. We all sat in the communal room listening to this 1970s we were all gobsmacked one of my workmates Jim he was from Lincoln remarked how clever Ian was with the words poetry. It was top of the Pops you can imagine that night the shed rocked.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, dearest NORMAN. XXXX
Norman Watt-Roy is criminally underrated. The band as a whole are to be honest!
@dhouse Agree and I really dislike Jazz-Funk & Pub-Rock. Somehow, with the brilliance of Dury's lyrics and performance, it all works.
I've seen hundreds, probably thousands, of bands from all genres, pop, folk, rock, metal, dance, prog, soul, blues, and Ian Dury & The Blockheads remain the tightest, most on-point band I have ever seen. Not a single dropped note, not a single skipped beat, every member of the band knew exactly what they were doing and what every other member of the band were doing every single second they were on stage. I'm pretty sure they all could have swapped places with each other and they'd still have been absolutely perfect.
Decent perm for a bass player.
Ian dury was true to himself . 👍 . Brilliant singer , band , songs . Great memories of real tunes.💛💛
Miss him so much.
A brilliant lyricist and musician.
He will never be forgotten
Norman Watt-Roy
AKA Beast On Bass. ❤️🎶
I like his swarthy skin.
This man has been through so much shit in his live, but got through it all 🎵what a man what a man and we all care 🎵
One of the best
The poet Ian Dury blessed our lives for far to shorter time, his brilliant witty words enriched my life, and the person commenting below says it succinctly that Ian did more for disability than social programmes ever wil.
You’re right there Lawrence. The words just seemed to roll off his tongue with ease. Think he was thirty five when he hit the scene.
He was brilliant 👍👍.
STAR WARS PLAYING AT CHELMSFORD ODEON.... a chopper bike for my birthday.......
What a waste on top of the pops that evening..................Happy days 1978...
Does anyone else think he has that "Zappa" sound and feel? RIP to Ian and Frank, 2 musical geniuses.
It's probably the ARP Odyssey synthesiser being played, George Duke played one in Franks band in the mid 70s also. Quite a recognisable sound.
Ah , someone gets it 👍
This is f-in brilliant
As a disabled person myself it was amazing to see Ian on Top the Pops and having hits, didnt really see his disability just his amazing ability to make catchy songs with wonderful lyrics..oh and a great backing band x
He cancelled it though ! I'm still loving this and just a thought he made it easy b'cos he was such a innovative fella ! Rip Ian
The most British song ever recorded.
Yeah... like that!
Absolutely
i never saw his disability, just his talent, and i miss the bloke
Disability? Such a totally enabled man!
he was the pawn shop owner in judge stalone
not a disabilty a condition
Me too Phil, well said
Why mention it then? Last thing on my mind
I miss this guy so much.
A simply brilliant lyricist.
I managed to see them a couple of times in the late 70s in London. Brilliant days mate , Thankyou.

some zappa vibes that i just picked up on after all these years ...not the same but the same spirit of adventure
legend
One of the finest bands around in that era ... punk, reggie, jazz, rock ... Certainly not "a waste". ... Vintage!
I think Ian Dury is a great advert for anyone with an ambition or a personal goal. Even if things seem stacked against you, you CAN do it. An inspiration and driving force.

Fking great voice and common man songs..legend...icon..influenced masses of musicians..

God bless Ian Dury and RIP.
Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll forever!
When bands looked and behaved like bands. Ian Dury is hypnotic in this video - you can't take your eyes off him. And the genius Blockheads look so unsavoury cool. Glad I was there.
PUB ROCK BAND 🎸 🇬🇧🍺
I loved the band in the 1970s and the songs still live. Still as vivid and powerful as in those great days. Rest In Peace Ian and live on guys!
Brilliant..on soo many levels..The Blockheads were an incredible band..Still fresh ..RIP ID
