- www.ultralightnews.com -- The Maxair Hummer is a single seat, high wing, wire braced, taildragger. The single cylinder Zenoah 22hp with it's belt reduction drive engine is mounted behind the wing on the upper root tube and is movable back and forth to provide the proper C of G for heavier pilots.
The Hummer uses bolt and rivet together aluminum construction with everything coming off it's main boom tube. It has a spring type suspension system on the main wheels, and tail wheel. The double surfaced wings and tail section are covered in dacron sailcloth.
The Hummer is a two axis control aircraft using an V tail with ruddervators. All of the controls for elevator, and rudder are operated from the stick through a very unique "mixer.
The Hummer won Best Workmanship at the EAA Fly-in in 1978, and was marketed as plans and in kit form by Maxair after Hill's death.

The Hummer was my first ultralight aircraft. Being a licensed pilot, the two axis control was strange. Absolutely no crosswind control. The original belt drives were prone to the pulley breaking off the flange. I converted mine to 440 twin cyl engine, which worked out well, since I was heavy. The view is nothing less than outstanding!
I just bought a complete kit never touched from 81. Of a hummer. Excited to start putting it together
did you get it together? hows it going ?
@@JessHull life got in the way, I have the tail wheel, half the main gear, and the basic main tube done. I actually took a week off of vacation so I can get into the hangar to make forward progress. Just been searching for motivation to actually go and do it lol.
Consider reinforcing the main tube at the downtubes now, as they failed commonly in hard landings. The zenoah was not reliable.
My 1st ultralight as well mine was all red I bought off a guy who had it stored in the loft of his barn for 500 bucks I took it to the airport and put it together and it was my 1st time in an aircraft but I flew it the 1st day with no problems I was 18 years old back in 2000
It's the simplest plane I have ever known. Awesome!
I can't stop watching this.
Thumb up.
I'm loving it Just starting out... Or rather just getting into the sport of it... Been building planes all my life. As a seven yr old kid, I built something we hung from a branch in a tree to see where the center of gravity would balance out. Daddy made us take it down and watched us real close for a few days. We asked him to tow us down the road to see if it would fly, of course we were so sure it would Daddy said no way
PARABENS PELO RESULTADO VOCE SABIA MUITO BEM O QUE ESTAVA FAZENDO DEU PRA VER QUE É BEM DOCIL ESTAVEL E FACIL DE MANOBRAR PARABENS!
I have been watching your video for the last five years and I am very interested in building such a plane
Beautiful and amazing.
this takes me back i had a hummer for many years ,,,great view out front ,,,,but i had to remove the primer bulb as quite a few failed and stopped in flight ,,,mine was yaw induced roll ,,,not to good for cross winds lovely plane
Wow... looks like something I was just trying to sketch out on an index card...
Great old man Hero
Awesome.
i had one if these and it gave a fantastic view ,, did not like bumpy weather too much ,yaw induced roll was interesting so fitted spoilers in the end ..
I'm imagining what it's like to Fly a model of this plane in MSFS 2020 at about Twenty or thirty Thousand Feet altitude., Not for the Faint-of-Heart or fear-of-Heights.
Very good I like your airplane
Excelent...!!
VERY NICE GOOD

I just purchased one of these at an auction to save it from being scrapped for aluminum. The sailcloth is shot but I was hoping I could find someone who needed parts or wished to purchase it to make it fly. It includes the Zenoah G25B-1 engine and everything it looks to be in pretty good shape outside of needing sailcloth and some cables. It is located in Elmira, NY if anyone is interested. I underestimated its size and would like to unload this thing quickly! Everything goes for $500.00.
+James Hood Put it up for sale on barnstormers.com, in the ultralight section.
James Hood is it still for sale?
I put a wreck of one back together. I almost flipped it over due to strong crosswind during my test flight. I got rid of it after that. I'll only fly aircraft where I can cross correct for wind.
Wow Amazing Sir from Pakistan

A dying old pal of mine has one of these for sale. His wife bought if for him several years back. He taxied it once and hung the wings up in a storage bin and the rest is in another building. It has a larger than stock engine. He wants me to list it on Craiglist for him. Two grand or 'best offer' and can probly get it for much less. Northeast Montana. Contact me.
