  • We have a Whirlpool Cabrio dryer model number WED6400SW1 and the start button is no longer working. I really don’t want to call a repair person and be charged hundreds of dollars so I decided to try and fix it myself. This video I’ll show you how to fix a Whirlpool Cabrio dryer that will not start. It is not very hard and may be similar to other dryer models as well.

    Thank u so much for sharing! Your vid was easy to follow. We ran into the exact same problem with our button with the same make and model dryer. I thought I'd have to walk around in wet underwear for days if I had to call out a tech for repair. We glued back the broken plastic and popped everything back. Using your step by step of what to look for helped us out tons!! Now it works just as fine. The world needs more hard working honest people like u! I have an old Whirlpool Cabrio dryer that is over 10 years old. It worked fine until last week. As in the video, the stard buttom stopped working. We did exactly as the guy said in the video, up until the wood piece. Instead we tried it with.. simple as hot glue. As of now, it works great!!!! Thank you so much for this video. I didn't have to pay a repairman or worse, a new dryer ;-)

    Omg that hashtag is hilarious!! 🤣🤣 But on another note, thank you so much for this tutorial! My husband and I have 3 kids and our dryer start button just randomly went out this morning during a load drying and another load to dry right after and we've been frantic trying to figure out how to fix it! Then I found this video and my husband is making the "wood piece" right now to put in there and then we will see if it works! I'm pretty sure we are all good though! Thanks again! 😁

    Thanks for your wonderful video!!! You helped me dismantle the dryer control panel, which I wouldn’t have had the know how otherwise! I didn’t use your wood replacement idea, but cut a tiny square of a plastic diabetes testing strip and super glued it to the underside of the 2 little prongs of the broken piece that was still in the large piece. After it dried, I took the remainder of the broken piece and super glued it in place and then topped it off with another little plastic square! After a couple hours, I reassembled it all and Voila!!! My dryer will now turn on!!! I really think the plastic parts are very cheap for what a new dryer costs! Thanks for your informative video!! 🤓

    • @juninagaki3871
      @juninagaki3871 Před 2 lety

      A question: why did you need "another little plastic square"? As long as the clear plastic button piece and the broken-off piece are in place, you do not need an extra high to push the button on the printed circuit board?

    Thanks for the info, same problem with the my whirlpool cabrio washer start button (plastic piece holding button broke, pieces looked identical to yours in the video), I used double sided tape (cut double sided tape to fit the head on the clear button) then attached button to the inside of the start button cover, instead of using super glue, I also used a piece of plexiglass, in place of using the wood paint stir stick (tired the wood paint stir stick, the wood paint stir stick I tried using was cheaply made and kept breaking every time I tried to drill or cut, I gave up and instead resorted to using the plexiglass). Cut and shaped the piece of plexiglass with a multi-function tool from Harbor Freight. Thanks for the information, put me on the right track which saved a lot of money in the end.

  • @SanMateoClips

    A thousand thanks! I had a couple issues but I’m good at complicating things. The plastic button is really offset so I had to push as far as possible to the outside to make contact. I tried to make a template with the broken plastic piece in place but it really needs to be further out. I made several little wooden things before it worked. Then I couldn’t get it to start; I just kept getting a beep beep. After several times of removing and replacing the circuit board I realized the dryer door was open. Duh. Great fix!

    Many, MANY Thanks. I lucked into finding your video after having the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Wish I could post pics to show what I did - a lot easier to 'show-and-tell' vs just 'tell' in words: On the underside of loose broken part, I Gorilla Glued a small piece of plastic the width it with enough of the plastic extending a little bit beyond the actual break area. After that dried, I put a dab of glue on the part of the plastic that was extending past the break as well as on the break itself - essentially, I had 'splint' supporting the bottom. After that dried, I glued a similar sized piece of plastic on top that bridged the break - another 'splint' on top. This solution worked fine. Hope that made sense to anyone reading this.

      Good fix Bronk. Thank You for your ingenuity. The matching Whirlpool Cabrio wash machine gave out twice during the warrantee period. The online forums were thick with complaints due to faulty circuit boards. The third time it failed we got rid of the Whirlpool Flagship Cabrio Washing Machine. To make matters worse, the A&E factory repair tech robbed my wife's jewelry during his visit. The bad experience really left me bitter towards planned obsolescence and Whirlpool. Exact same problem here. The piece of plastic holding the button in place broke off. I went to Lowes and got a tube of JB Weld for Plastic epoxy to glue the broken piece back into place. 15 minutes set time and 30 minutes cure time according to the instructions. Will give it a few hours just to make sure before testing it out. If you don't here back from me then all is fine. Thanks for the video.

      @BronkBuilt No worries. I used a small bit on a Dremel, then bored it out to a snug fit and glued it on. It's drying now. This was actually better fit than a circular hole. I'll let you know tomorrow how it worked. Thanks again!

    • @blown22
      @blown22 Před 6 měsíci

      @@BronkBuilt I placed the piece in there snug, and then the circuit board (but not the white pastic cover), then tested it. It seemed like it may have barely pushed the button on the circuit board (weak click) on the first push, but then it didn't make contact from the second push onward. So I popped the circuit board back off and the piece I had fashioned was pushed out of from the two gray plastic prongs instead of being flush/level like it had originally been.
      So now I need to ask you a few more questions: (1) Should I retry this, but also attach the white cover and 3 screws first - would that make any difference? (2) Do I need to actually glue the button to the inside of the cover? (3) Maybe a dumb question, but how thick was the paint stirring stick you used?. My wood piece looks to be 2 or maybe 3mm thick; a little thicker than 1/8", but thinner than 3/16". It looks pretty close to yours.
      Thanks for your continued help on this. I really do appreciate it.

However, after putting it back together, the dryer will not shut off. i.e. in Normal mode (a 40 minute drying cycle) it will run until I manually stop it.
