Hi folks, I have worked out how to open the lock from the inside without smashing the lock:
Insert a small (about 5mm width blade head) flat head screwdriver in the left upper corner of where the lock clamps to the latch bar. You will trigger the first release of the clamping mechanism.
The clam tooth now still has a grip on the lock bar but can now be manipulated to release off the bar and open the lock. The same trigger has to be activated again to fully release the clam so use the flat head to push in again and the second part of the movement will happen and unlock the door.

@@bass349 hi there, I will try to get my hands on the vehicle this weekend and make a video. Mine is the station wagon which has a different angled lock, so I hope the hatch can be accessed the same way (both use the same locking mechanism so the principle is identical, it’s just the pitch the lock is mounted). Hopefully the wagon technique will work on your hatch. I’ll post this weekend.

hi mate, didn’t have much time but I have thrown together a quick video, you will have to be super patient and have a torch to see into the lock from the inside. Message me if you have any questions- allow for about 10 minutes of fidgeting around to become familiar with the inside of the lock.

Thank you - part arrived in 2 business days and once I got the old actuator to release (I ended up having to drill out the plastic on the right as suggested in another video), the part was replaced in minutes and working perfectly. Saved me a lot of money :)
Thanks, this video actually helped a lot in replacing my mum's i30 boot latch. The part arrived within 2 days via Auspost to rural North Queensland!
Because the boot was stuck closed and I couldn't release it with the screwdriver trick, I drilled two small holes in the plastic of the old mechanism to access a lever to release it (couple of youtube guides on this already). Super easy.

Just did this repair job. Getting the trunk open from inside the boot requires you to push the boot open at the same time as pushing the manual release with a screwdriver or carkey. It isn't enough to just jiggle the manual release latch. The carmakers put those bolts on tight! My drill couldn't loosen them, I had to get them off with a size 8 screwdriver attachment grabbed onto by a plumbers wrench. So it took me more than 3 minutes, more like 20. This trunk latch works better than the original manufacturer's one though so 110% good job parts factory.

Thankyou for sending this latch so promptly. Can I add a point that may help others. We should have changed this as soon as it started playing up. We were managing to open the boot by pressing down on the lid while activating the electronic key. But then that stopped working. I crawled in from the seat side to activate the internal release but found to my dismay that this had failed. You dont want to know what a job it was to remove the latch and get the boot open. There may be an easier way, but I basically had to smash the plastic part of the latch and break it open to unlock the boot. - Then it was an easy fix as shown so well in this video. So note to self, next time replace it as soon as it starts playing up!

I have a 2014 i30 hatchback with a boot problem, the Actuator you show is ok, however the surrounds of the lock mechanism above it has been broken and to open I have to use my finger to push on the button inside to release the boot, this is not ideal in the bad weather and it's also annoying having to do this each day, do you have the part involved.

My daughter has an I30 and she caught a leather bag handle in the lock.... we were able to pull the bag handle out but now the rear hatch wont open even when we slide the safety latch inside with a screw driver...... any hints on what to try next..... thanks.
There’s a video on CZcams where you actually have to drill open the plastic cover on the left side of the hatch release, open it, and replace the whole actuator. Seen the party cheap on Amazon.
Hey, I’ve just received my part however have a question… I tried using a 3/8 socket bit but is just too small, not sure what else to use as I’ve tried all of which is in my toolkit, does anyone know? Thank you

How do I know this actuator is the problem & it's not the wiring? My trunk is manual open. So I unlock the doors and then I have to go back and press a soft button to open the hatchback. The "button" isn't working. Do I just need the actuator or a new wiring harness??
If its working at your button, it may very well be your key button
@@thepartsfactory4239 when I unlock it at the door or the key fob you hear all the doors unlock, but when you try to open the tailgate manually nothing happens. Before it stopped working completely, the tailgate manual button had to be pressed just right...

How can I tell if its the actuator? Or other part to order?It doesnt have a button on the boot at all only key which still flashes but not unlocking.I can open manually with a screwdriver/key inside only.Thankyou

I've replaced both the actuator and the button with your parts and both don't work. Keys all unlock the doors but when i manually try to open the boot nothing happens and its stuck. Any other ideas?
If you've done both parts, check your wiring harness

@mellyegitto yes its most likely at this point. Have them bench test both the switch and actuator before they start diagnosis. Because if it was those parts its an easy warranty through us without further costs
How do you know if it's the actuator or the button itself ?
Does it work off they key?
@thepartsfactory4239 : No it won't open and when you press the button on the hatch it moves freely like its floating.
@thepartsfactory4239 : Nope . I'm going to have to drill it out, so I'll have to buy the actuator anyway. If that doesn't do the trick I'll purchase the button.

I feel your pain. This emergency mechanism for opening is not bery strong. I spent probably 3 hours today trying to get my boot open to replace this latch. To get the boot open I had to undo the bolts from the inside, use a coal chisel to smash off the pin that holds the emergency release lever, the knock the two tabs in above that with the coal chisel and a lot of hammering! Then finally i got the boot open. But the latch was still locked onto its fasterning bracket down the bottom. So next job was to undo the 3 screws on the metal plate then prise the latch apart. Then I had acces to activate the mechaism with a screw driver anad off it came. Next time it starts to play up, I will be changing it promptly and not trying to make do. The mechanism is not very robust and when they start to fail, more damage happens the longer you leave it, until the emergency release mechanism no longer works! When I pulled mine apart I found there were plastic bits inside. Obviously not designed to last the life of the car. Another point, I am telling my family that they must close the boot lid gently. Using more force than necessary will stress these plastic bits that make it all work and lead to early failure.
