Structures such as bridges are designed as a repeating pattern of the same parts or ‘elements’. If we have a range of different size elements we can produce a greater range of repeated pattern designs. In this way the designer has more freedom and can create designs which are strong but also pleasing to the eye and which fit the surroundings in a better way. This video describes how to make consistently identical roll tubes of two different lengths.
