⛽Awesome Video Rob, they did a great job restoring that Bel Air!!! I don't get to see a lot of different old gas stations very often. thank you for taking the time to sharing this history with us and creating this awesome content. Every piece of gas station Memorabilia and car has a story to tell, and it's up to us to preserve their stories and share the history. 🚂
Yes you are right!! All of this is history that only remains because we do our best to preserve it in our minds and physically in person hopefully!!! I pined your comment. Wish I could pin all of the comments coming in but with the CZcams platform that is not possible. Rob
I was born and raised in Southern California, Riverside. Every summer when my Dad had vacation time, we would drive back to Kansas to visit family. We took 66 into Oklahoma then turned north. At the time my folks owned a’56 Ford Fairlane two door hardtop and a ‘53 Chevrolet pickup. For vacations we put a camper on the truck, loaded up and off we went. My brother and I rode in the camper, my folks were up front. No air conditioning, no fast food, not too many big cities either (except for Albuquerque and a few others). It wasn’t glamorous, it wasn’t time filled with cell phones, touch screens, laptops or other gadgets - none of those had been invented yet- and I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat. I’m the only one left in my family so these memories are worth it.
Thank you for posting this!
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate you sharing these family memories. Yes things were much simpler then without all the gadgets robbing our daily life and time these days. I remember sitting with my brother in the back of my parents Chrysler station wagon traveling from NJ to CA back in the sixties. We also experienced Route 66 in a special way. Rob
I've met the man who owns the 1939 Graham. He is a Route 66 treasure. I wish I had gone down Route 66 years ago when the mother road was full of people like him. These old guys are dying off which is sad to see. People like him make Route 66 an immersive experience. I took my son out to meet him last year and he wants to go again and take his twin brother so he can experience Route 66 and everything it has to offer.
Thank you for sharing this. Yes that man is definitely a Route 66 treasure . He was telling me that he owned a Whiting Bros service station near by at one time. He was fun to hang out with and chat about 66 and the past. I hope you’re son’s twin brother does have an opportunity to visit this place and other things along the old road. A lot of history still remains. Thanks for watching my video. Rob
OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION. THANK YOU FOR SHARING.
Thank you kindly!

Thank you for watching my video!!! I am glad you liked the treasures from the past . We can’t go back except in memories. Please subscribe if you have not yet? I have more to share soon. Thanks, Rob
I visited the Bent Door station and was able to talk with the current owner about its history a few months ago on my trip. The left side of the station with the bent door was salvaged off of an old military boat and the station was built around that piece back in the day. The pumps that are out front are original to the station but they were gone when the current owner bought the station, he found who had the pumps on the other side of town and was able to buy them back and put them back in place as well as the pole sign. Inside he has old original pictures of the station which used to have 36B pumps in its earlier days. He is an over the road trucker and is trying to restore the station in his spare time. His hope is to make it an ice cream/burger shop and Museum in the future.
Thank you for mentioning this. It answered a few questions I had when I was there. Interesting story about the bent door and the fact that he was able to get the pumps and sign back! Appreciate you sharing what you found out about this station!
Cool places, consider yourself lucky, being able to travel around and see so many neat places from way back when. I'm happy that you are able to do what you do. I think it's cool that people like you, can drive around the country and find these places, to show them to others that are interested in the different eras of America, plus y'all are able to find and buy antiques, to keep old time America alive. It sure is good that people are able to come to you and the others, to buy and preserve the history of this country, either keeping it rusty or doing restoration to the items of the old highways and byways. The multitude of products that were made from when automobiles were first produced, all they way, up to the 1960's and 70's, it's unfathomable to even think of how many. But, from big to tiny, there's always something out there, that will touch someone's heart felt passion for collecting a part of the American automobiles and what lined the American roads, as Americans ventured out, exploring the country, from sea to shining sea.
Thank you for what you do. Keeping the young, to the old, the American Automotive Soul Alive!
Thank you for the well thought out comment and all the compliments. I feel very blessed having been on a road trip adventure like this. I have seen many different interesting places and things from our past like you mentioned! America has a long history or roadside culture and much still remains for many to enjoy. Thanks for watching my videos. I am glad you have enjoyed them. Rob
I feel sorry when I see these magnificent cars in those conditions. 😥 Thanks for sharing.
Yes so do I . Then I tell myself at least they survived the car crusher !
The Nash Ambassador Wow....Here in the UK in the past Austin/Morris produced a little Nash Metrpolitan hopefully for the USA market....A sweet little car but a flop...A few survive in The UK ....I love my holidays riding The Dog in America ....All Aboard Amtrak also.....Wonderful.....

I hope you can also go out and roam places like these. So much to see in America!!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob

Thanks for watching!
Sacrilege that Standard Oil service station sign was painted over for another use. Great video showing some surviving vintage gas stations and autos along the "Mother Road." Thanks for sharing!
Yes I agree about that sign being painted over. I would like to see it someday brought back to it’s original glory. I am glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate your comment. Rob
I'm going to go out in a lark here. As my grandmother used to say. But I guess you don't see that many studebakers in your home state? They seem to be sprinkled around the west and somewhere in the Midwest. But that Graham car how much did he want for it? Now it's been a while I've only seen one or two others in person and that one I sold its twin for a good chunk of money. I never owned it I just got the buyer and sell it together. Not only until it's not busted the color is good on the lens. The 50 give or take a year Chrysler Plymouth black one, it's amazing the paint always holds up well on those cars. I'd still like to get one I'm not going to break my neck to go after it because they're not that valuable actually. Well in any case good to see your video content from your trip. I like the Studebaker pickups just because they're different. There's one in particular that is rare and I know where it's one setting at and if the family ever stops crawling over the man's estate, I'm sure I can buy it for three times what he offered it to me for. In any case go back about 5 or 6 years with Barrett-Jackson on the Studebaker pickup sales. If they're old auctions are still available. They sold it for an insane amount. Get yourself a list together and put this one on it. That list should be if I ever see one of these I need to let somebody know! Or by myself. Anyway I'll leave it all at that point. It's been a long old day and I sold a couple more today.
Hello my Old Car Legend friend!!! I love your comments!!! In complete respect I never asked the gentleman how much he was asking for the Graham super charged Low output flathead six four door! I liked it because it was something😢 I was not familiar with but honestly would not want to own it. He was very nice. He has visitors from all over the world stopping by trying to buy small souvenirs from the old road. Yes those 50s Plymouth cars hold the original paint very well. I learned this on this road trip. Yes not worth very much but the front ends look cool for sure. Thanks again for leaving an incredible comment!! Your friend Rob in California
If you ever plan to motor west!. Great viewing. ! Rog. Pacific sunset records
Thank you for watching my video! I plan on shooting more videos further west soon!

Thank you for watching my video!! Rob
this is awesome. from the Philippines.
Thank you for watching and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed the video. Rob
Rob, another beautiful video. The little station in Vega, TX is so unique and very unusual in design I'm sure. I spotted a 1958 Edsel Pacer!
Thanks!!! I thought it would be fun back in the day to live upstairs in that building. I looked into the downstairs office area and it was decorated nicely with collectibles. The entire building was in excellent condition!
So glad you spotted the Edsel Pacer!!! I am sorry I did not walk around it.
Kansas... the Original 14.2 miles
of the iconic wonderful Route 66.
Last item on My bucket list. Fly
out to Missouri from Ohio, rent an
old classic car, drive the 14.2 miles
of Route 66 in Kansas to Oklahoma,
turn around and drive back, taking
all the time necessary for these 67+
year old eyes and soul to soak up
all the history of this original bypassed
stretch of our great nations “ Mother
Road.” Thankx SO Much for the video.
That is one of the best stretches of 66 for sure! I hope you have an opportunity to fulfill your bucket list ! Thanks for watching and commenting.
You walked right on by without saying anything about the Henry J automobiles that were also marketed under the Allstate brand and sold at Sears.
Yes I am sorry. That was a huge oversight on my behalf! Thank you for watching and commenting. Rob
Grahm Paige….? Never heard of one….Neat !
Very oddball vehicle I must say!
Super Video, Dude!
Glad you enjoyed it
Very cool video man I lived out there back in the 90s just north of Amarillo I work for Phillips petroleum in the refinery but when I had time off I went straight to Route 66 and traveled both directions on it back then it was really cool you can stop at a roadside burger store and you would think you were right back in the fifties drive a little ways down the road and there were cars and Salvage Yards everywhere I didn't make a lot of money and of course I had a family to feed and take care of so I wasn't able to buy any of those cars but I definitely wanted to they were everywhere and fairly cheap too but it just wasn't to be anyhow I love those days and thinking back on it I wish I could drive that road again just for the fun of it
Thanks for sharing your experiences! I wish I could go back to visit during the 80s or 90s . The old cars and trucks are very expensive now and not as plentiful as when you were there. Appreciate your comment. Rob
Henry J 2 door! Thats orphan alley right there. Very cool stuff. If that’s I-40, seen it going by. Its amazing. All those Studies broke down in the same place. Go figure.
Yes I-40. I also have a broken Studebaker on my property!!!😂😂😂
Great lookin brick papers on that street, I want to do my driveway at my house in Indiana.
That would really enhance the look of your house!! Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob
Check out that old Pepsi cola machine ,,and gas was only 29.9 ,,ha and look at the price of gas today,,I was a kid in the early 50,s things were so much better and cheaper back then,,,and the antique cars there so cool,, cars were made in the USA in Detroit back then ,,they should of kept it that way ,,,Made in the USA ,,ooh baby baby the beautiful blue Chevy Bel air ,,can I go for a ride Awesome 🥰💙😎
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Yes things were definitely different back then. No internet, no cell phones, children playing games outside, cars had style ,and so did buildings . Rob
Nice cars rotting away
Yes But at least they were not crushed like a lot were back in the past!
My dad had a few ambassadors back in the fifties... One time me and my brother filled up the gas tank with gravel thinking we were doing a good thing
Wow!!!! It is crazy what we did at times as children. 😁😁😁 Thanks for sharing. Rob
There are many towns on south central and southeastern KS that had brick streets. Many have been paved over, some not. Coffeyville, Independence, Parsons, Iola just to name a few. More have brick streets than don't.
Thanks for listing a few of them. I think it would be shame to pave over them. I really admire the brick streets! Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob
these days long gone America not the same
Very true!!!
The 66 station is known for the bent door that I believe was part of an old airport control tower structure repurposed on the side.
I think that door is very interesting and very unique!!! Thanks for sharing the info. Rob
I love that sign at the beginning, "Watch Your Curves, Eat More Beef!"
In related news... 9 out of ten doctors recommend Winston cigarettes.
Oh my goodness!!! I was hoping someone commenting would mention that sign!!! I was laughing when I first read it! Not something we would see these days! Thanks for watching and commenting. Rob
It never dawned on me - the close similarity between the Philips 66 and the Route 66 signs.
Yes I often think about that myself! Thanks for watching and commenting.
That stood for standard gas and oil companies too maybe also American amico. And esso
Yes so many mergers!!!
The "NASS" YT channel shows a lot of colour restored film of these era cars from the 30,40s ,50s and 60s.
Might be of interest .
Thanks for sharing that channel information . Thanks for watching my video. Rob
Hate to see all those amazing 50s cars which in todays world, are considered works of art, just rotting away. I’d think this would be a car restorers paradise.
Yes it would be a car restorers paradise!!! Appreciate you watching and commenting! Rob
The Nash at 6:53 is actually a 1954. The one at 9:14 is the 52.
Thank you for sharing this information!!!
2:00...
The painted over “ Standard” sign is ROUND,
Whereas the later Standard signs were more
oval... curious on the round Standard sign(?)
Funny thing
Born 1955
N/E Ohio
Mom & Dad told me
As soon as I could talk,
I could name all the local
Service Stations
Sinclair Sohio Shell Sunoco
( Dad always got $5.00 of 220 )
Texaco( his brother in law owned
a Texaco service station on W.25th
& I-71... I ALWAYS received a Texaco
truck on my birthday( still have one:
Light gauge steel friction tanker truck)
To this day, have many service station
road maps, over 1500 motor oil cans &
bottles ( many are service station), a
old & newer Sinclair memorabilia collection
and a modern service station tanker truck
collection... guess you can say I’ve got
motor oil & gasoline, instead of blood
pumping thru these veins...LOL
Great information. Thanks
Yep there's a picture of that very same gas station I was talkin about at about ten seconds in
Very cool!!! Wow you are digging into my video box 📦 now!!! Thank you for visiting my older found along the way video! I enjoy these !
Anyone remember the whiting bros gas stations along route 66 in the 6os and 70s ?
I remember them and shot a video last summer of a few remaining. Check out my other videos and you will be able to see a few. Here is one link for you to watch. czcams.com/video/CYT4EfItSkI/video.html
Any pictures of the hay day for this station
The owner has pictures to share . A friend of mine met the owner. When I was there no one was around unfortunately.
I believe I could be wrong but I believe that blue 55 four-door is a postcard not a Bel-Air it has the post between the back seat and the front seat I believe if it was a too dark two door and had them post it would not be a Bel-Air but not sure the four door correct me if I'm wrong
Lucky the fast buck scavengers didn't take everything
Yes it is nice to see things from the past displayed.
Sad to see all those Studebakers just rotting away.
Yes I agree but at least they were not crushed years ago. Do they still have a chance to be rebuilt be a future generation ? Rob
Thank you NICE
I am glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching it. Rob
