Breaking Bad was a once in a lifetime experience.
True.
It was so good that I want to rewatch it but I know the experience won't be the same
It wasn't. I rewatched it earlier this year, and it was definitely better the first time.
I never thought that a show could be better than Breaking Bad but i recommend watching Wentworth it has one of the best villains in my opinion.
Like what?
Like the reactions, the foreshadowing, the symbolism, the cinematography. Nothing you see on that show is there by accident
I only ever meet two types of people - those who love Breaking Bad and those that have never seen it.
And those who can't get past the first season. Once you're over the first seasons you're pretty much hooked
I know people who dont like breaking bad...
@@HolleWalle dude I don't even know what's the beef about the first season.
I loved it. From Krazy-8 to the Cancer intervention to Tuco, the acting and introduction to the characters are brilliant. Not to mention without the first season nothing will makes sense.
@@ISilencerI Insanely overrated????
How dare you.
It's funny because I've met a lot of people who hated how breaking bad's conclusion and I just don't fucking understand
Ozymandias is the single most crushing event that has ever happened on TV.

I guess i have to watch breaking bad a third time, now
I recommend it as you spot so many tiny details that you don't see the first or second time.
my thoughts
but that will be a little boring, unless you watch it with friends
7th....
5th.....
Ozymandias, Granite State, and Felina. The perfect three-episode arc that ended Breaking Bad so magnificently. We see the fall of Walter White's reign in Ozymandias and then we see him suffering because of that in Granite State and then the show ends with him trying to make what he can right even though he's way past the point of redemption, and then him dying on his own terms in Felina. It's beautifully done.
Make that 4-episode arc. To'haijilee was amazing as well, one of my favorite episodes ever.
So you think he died 🤔
@@pranavmanie1479 5-episode arc. Rabid Dog tied Jesse and Hank's characters together like a perfect bow.
@@RickyDoo85 true

My favourite scene is when the cops arrive and the chair is empty while the breaking bad theme plays in the second last episode

Completely agree
Granite State right?
@@gonsa_pro yes

Ozymandias is the greatest episode of television I have ever experienced. It is pure perfection.
You saw Game of Thrones 6x09 and 6x10? :)
I absolutely love those episodes of Game of Thrones, but the resonance and brilliance of Ozymandias is so difficult to overtake.
Conner Wood
I mean I love both shows sooo much, but saw GoT more recently than BrBa back then. That's why I came up with asking him about it.
+Conner Wood I agree. Battle of the Bastards was indeed epic in its own right. But Ozymandius was the result of 5 seasons of build up and it was horrifically stunning
Conner Wood Are you FilmOdyssey?
I only watched Breaking Bad this summer. Almost every day I'd watch two, maybe three episodes, and I absolutely loved it. So satisfying to watch unfold, and just great to see how almost everything had some sort of knock-on effect or was affected by a previous arc. Not sure anyone can pin a single "best" episode, but Ozymandias has got to be in at least the top five. The whole thing was so thoroughly gripping and perfectly encapsulated the highest peaks of this amazing show.
hey I watched it this summer too. I can't pick a favourite episode either, but I can pick favourite scenes. Half Measure ending, Hank's death, "I'm the one who knocks" are the best sscenes of this show. they are the most powerful scenes of this show.
Lol I watched 2 seasons im one day xD
wow i also started watching it this summer. I'm almost done and i can't wait to see how it unfolds.
My favourite episode is "Fly"
Said no one ever
Fly is good, it breaks with the dramatic storyline of the serie
The hardest part about watching breaking bad for the first time was transitioning Hal to Walter.
I found that after he shaved his head it was pretty easy
Your not the boss of me now and I'm not so sacred!
Who is Hal?
From "Malcolm in the Middle", his comic father character before this show.
KalOrtPor Oh I didn't know the characters name was Hal. Now I get it :/
Extremely well done analysis. This is my favorite episode of any TV show ever

if breaking bad was set in the UK, he could just get free cancer treatment and it would be over in one episode.
No since he still wanted to make money
What a good tv show!
@@element7580 He wanted money bc he would die from the cancer
@@GuilhermeRodrigues-wj9ps Cancer isn't a simple cold. We still don't have a perfect cure for it. We can stop it at times but at the end, it all depends on the severity of the cancer and the individual's capacity. Walt did get cured of the cancer in the show and it again came back. So while the starting episodes would be different but it could have still taken Walter on the same path even in the UK or any other country...
Element He developed the want to make money after being in the game for the first season, and if he hadn’t started cooking meth in the first place he wouldn’t have developed that desire
A quote from the first episode is applicable (especially the Ozymandias episode) through out and a theme of the show "Growth and decay, then transformation"
***** Haha Walt actually says that after the quote "Why... that's all of life" I think that's how it's said.
is actually the Hegelian dialectic
Cory Y. What is the relation between the two?
From the Oxford English Dictionary:
"Dialectic ....the Hegelian process of change in which a concept or its realization passes over into and is preserved and fulfilled by its opposite... development through the stages of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis in accordance with the laws of dialectical materialism ....any systematic reasoning, exposition, or argument that juxtaposes opposed or contradictory ideas and usually seeks to resolve their conflict ...
....the dialectical tension or opposition between two interacting forces or elements."
That is the essence of "Growth and decay, then transformation"
" 'My name is Ozymandias, King of kings.
Look on my works, ye might, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck."
Which is how all absolute rulers end.
I still feel hallow inside after finishing Breaking Bad, even though i've watched it 3 times.
The thing that fucking gets me is Jesse's face of agony and relief as he speeds away in the car. Something about seeing him so broken tugs at my heartstrings. Man this show makes me feel shit far after it finished
i feel like the show is more engaging every time i watch it. I've seen it five times now and the fifth time was the best... although maybe because I was going crazy after watching it all in a 4 day weekend
shifterdude647 ikr, it was like nothing else on television
I just started watching it for the 6th time, am I sad 😂😂 I dont think I care
I've seen a lot of people calling Rian Johnson a hack, or saying that he doesn't have any talent because he "ruined star wars" and I think that the fact that he directed what might be the best episode of any television show ever shows that that's clearly not true
He is definitely not without talent, but he should have stayed away from Star Wars
@Geralt of Trivia Yeah probably... But i do actually think that he is a great director
@Geralt of Trivia "Brick" and "Looper" are both A+ and he deserved an Emmy for best directing on "Breaking Bad"
Yeah, he should have stuck to just directing, not writing.... His writing is shit. the writer for this show was amazing and probably gave him good tips on what she expects... Wish someone had done the same with starwars...
@Geralt of Trivia gonna have to disagree with you there, the last Jedi sucked. He directed great BB episode, but after watching the last Jedi, I doubt he did it on his own merits.
after watching breaking bad you know that nothing you will ever watch after will be as good :(
FunAdventuresWithFabian exactly my thoughts.. :(
Hey OP, please give Better Call Saul a chance. It's very much up there with Breaking Bad, if not better. If you watch it you'll understand why. I hope you give it a chance and remember this comment one day.
Totally, don’t get me wrong, series like The Office, The Shield, The Wire, are good and you know you'll love it for ever but Breaking bad is just pure gold. A experiencie that happens just one time in life.
Ever watch the wire?
I know this comment is two years old, but you HAVE to watch Better Call Saul. It's probably better than Breaking Bad.
Man, I can't stress enough how well this show was made. Everything was so meticulously crafted. From the acting, to the writing, the cinematography, everyone here gave it there all. This show really is a once in a lifetime experience. To this day, I haven't met a single person that has disliked this show for any real reason, besides that it's overhyped. Everytime this show is mentioned, all I can think of is how great this show was and how it has impacted me.
Ozymandias is the only episode I've ever seen that was so intense that I had to pause it and have a break..
Try Better Call Saul’s Chicanery

I am unbelievably happy you've finally done an episode on Breaking Bad. It's my all time favorite show and I'm surprised I actually took the time to write this comment before watching.
Love your content!
One of the most underrated comedy shows of all time is 'Garth Marenghi's Darkplace'. It ran for only 1 series consisting of 6 episodes over here in the UK and every episode is top notch. I fully recommend it. And, yet again, you've delivered another superb and enlightening video. The consistency and high quality nature of your videos is astounding. I first started watching you after seeing you did a video on Christopher Hitchens, one on The Beatles, and one on Louis CK.; three things I adore. Keep up the good work.

Breaking Bad always on the Top of the list.
2019? I'm still getting goosebumps typing out that this is greatest masterpiece on TV.
I swear, Breaking Bad was one of the most incredible pieces of story and art on television.
Cranston reading the poem is probably one of the greatest promos I've seen. Such a fantastic use of his voice..
The brother-in-law's last words was probably the best and most touching of any scene in this whole series.
While Mad Men is my FAVORITE show ever, Breaking Bad is the BEST show I've ever seen.
I really respect that!
Well, I LIKE Mad Men more because of its story and characters, but I think the overall plot of Breaking Bad is better. I guess I just enjoy Mad Men more.
It's like J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
In many ways J. Cole is my favorite, but Kendrick is the best.

The Wire, hands down. Imo
Totally agree.
Deadwood is the best show no one talks about.
I feel like it just becomes mainstream afterwards (ok episodes and a big finale to keep people hooked) seems like it's an entirely different show
5 seconds into this video and I already have goosebumps.
Most complete TV series of all time.
The best episode, in my opinion is the one after Todd shoots a kid.
That's when Jessey, who is perhaps (and without Walt knowing) the key to Walt's success; in that point they have broken the subtle line they stablished in the first episode they would never break.
I hated Todd, he was probably the worst person on the show morally.

gabriel montreuil What's wrong with fantasy? Breaking Bad is, of course better along with only a few more (The Sopranos and above them The Wire as for example) but Got has to be one of the greatest TV Shows you can watch these days, so why not?

I look like an idiot crying on the toilet over how poignant and emotionally heart-wrenching this essay was. Thank you, Nerd Writer.
It's amazing and kind of scary how Walter's acting inside the show (to seem like he's still a good person) convinced some viewers.
I still remembered the very first episode i watched and, the feeling i had when i finished the last. It’s so overwhelmingly empty... as I know there will be no show that will bring me such emotions and thoughts about life, about all that creates us as who we are, about all the consequences we will have over something.
It’s cliche to say this but Breaking Bad is a unreplaceable part of my adulthood as it taught me so so much about life that no teacher can ever do. This video of yours just brings back so so much of those intense feelings. Thanks a lot for this. This means a lot to me. And now I gotta rewatch the whole show for the 4th time. Thanks again
This show was just amazingly well written. God, I remember the first time I saw this, I was late, I started to watch this in the beginning of 2014 on Netflix. Every - single - episode was FILLED with excitement. I love the look of the characters, the atmosphere just everything was right. And you more you saw it, the more you understood. So many goddamn hidden messages that gives me goosebumps.
I wouldn't say this was my favorite episode but it definitely had one of the best acting and lines. Hank's last line before his death was so epic.
That is some of the best background music you have had in an episode, ever. Seriously, totally set the mood--gave me chills describing something else that gave me chills.
Amazing that I was just now getting into breaking bad and nerd writer does an analysis that is amazing and rivals other analysis I have just seen and bombarded my favorite list with. Love it, keep it nerdy
I literally watch Breaking Bad every single fucking day. It's the best show ever made.
That's depressing

last 8 episodes of breaking bad are probably the best thing that ever happened to tv. i have issues with the first and second season but well what is perfect anyway? some of the writing, directing, acting and even editing and fading in and out of scenes in this show is just insane.
whats the problem in season 1 and 2? I wanna have nuanced discussion.
I finished BrBa easily five years ago, watched this video whenever it came out and still come back here and rewatch it every couple of months, I just can't get enough of this video essay, it is one of Nerwriter's best in my opinion. kudos!
Ozymandias is such a heartbreaking episode. It’s truly the most devestating hour of television. And is that rian Johnson guy the same one who did episode 8??!
I maybe cried the hardest in this episode than i cried while watching a movie or reading a book. It deeply touched me.
I could never hate/blame Walter while watching BB. I watched it all in like a week, and it was not until I was done and watching videos about that I became aware of how I just accepted Walter's rationalisation of his actions and still wanted him to win despite all the horror. It was really a lesson in perspective.
but it’s shown how his rationales are feeble excuses for his monstrous actions. no matter what, walter is always wrong. whether its cooking meth in the first place, raping skyler, or killing jane, his rationalization is what destroyed literally every character in that show
I think it’s not until you watch the show for a second time you understand this.
I just finished it for a third time and it’s hard not to continue rooting for Walt when you’re caught up in the action.
I recently just rewatched Breaking Bad again and I found this episode to be so incredibly tragic. It's just so well made, that they make everything fall apart in his life from the moment he answers that phone call from Jesse (when he says he's going to burn his money). And then, like this video points out, you can go as far back as the pilot episode and see how those first decisions he made to make meth and practice his lies leads all the way to that moment. Everything was going moderately well for him in a twisted way but it all eventually comes back to bite him in the ass. Furthermore, I found it pretty amazing that when you take a step back and look at all the villians in the show and watching Better Call Saul and see more about the backgrounds of a lot of the characters that Walter White is basically the worse person to grace anyone's lives. He causes everything to fall apart in his warpath for success that he even destroys himself.
i love this! (and all your videos lol)
this is honestly my favorite kind of content, videos that present knowledge for others that allow them to finding a deeper meaning or concept to a medium that is usually just viewed as something for pure enjoyment, gives me so much inspiration, so thank you (-:
i would super love it if you created a video that analyzed ANY of Mr. Robot's episodes or the show as a whole. Having your perspective on any of the themes or meanings, even the art or audio direction would for sure be a gift to this world, not even exaggerating!! Its such a breathtaking show, and I don't feel like enough people talk about it!!! It's literally the only show that I've been 100% enveloped in since Breaking Bad ended, it filled the god damn void that show left.

I was reminded of why I watch let's play videos right after finishing a particularly enthralling video game - just to witness the reactions of someone else. Rian Johnson's directing the next installment of Star Wars. I think we're in good shape : D
I'm not ashamed to say I cried at the end of breaking bad. Especially how they left the ending for Jesse ambiguous. I fucking loved him. He was the best character and he was tortured non stop for the ENTIRE show. He never had a happy ending. Not for a second. Everyone he loved, is dead. I think he might of hanged himself the next day. I fucking cried so hard thinking about Jesse. He was the only character that felt like the most human. He hated kids being killed and he always put others before himself. He was EASILY the best character, and I will fucking fight you if you say otherwise. He deserved so much better.
I just discovered you channel recently and this is one of my favorite shows of all time and the Ozymandias episode was my favorite TV episode of all time. Good job on your analysis on the end on breaking
Yeah, I was watching The Town and I noticed Ben Affleck was especially partial to reaction shots, to the point where he'll just cut away from the person speaking to the person listening, and linger on them, for quite a bit longer than another filmmaker probably would. Even in banal conversations... I don't know, I thought it was kind of illuminating.
I noticed the same thing. That movie is truly excellent.

"The last act makes the film. Wild 'em in the end, and you got a hit. You can have flaws, problems, but wild them in the end... and you got a hit [...] But don't cheat, and don't you dare bring in a deus ex machina"
Robert Mckee, The Adaptation (2002)
People are so divided on The Last Jedi right now, but I think this video essay highlights some of the best work he did for Star Wars brought from what he did on Breaking Bad. Rian knows how to convey theme, explore it thoroughly, and have us see where it takes the characters. As a result, we got a movie I don't think anyone expected to be part of the Star Wars mythos, and whether you liked it or not, I think it's one of the most impressive mainstream movies in recent years.
oh also, TLJ totally had a whole Ozymandias vibe through the whole thing for me, at least, especially with the humanization of the heroes and villains, the hope that kept rising and falling throughout, and the expectations that always ended up getting subverted.
amazing.
This is one of your best videos ever !! Love all your works ! But this one will always be in my fave list
Amazing video! I loved Breaking Bad because it was more than explosions and blood. It was SMART! It demanded that the viewer look not just as the surface of the images, but beneath them, and sometimes beneath that, too.
Thank you for this great breakdown of this epi! Every time I watch an epi, I see new things, but I still hadn't caught many of what you've shown us. The glass being the blue meth -- omg, how could I not notice that?
