  • More expensive than the TEF 6686 based receivers we have seen before this SR 286 looks like a much more professional radio and first impressions are that in many ways it is a better receiver too.
If you want a radio capable of decent FM DX performance which also receives well on LW/MW/SW then this is it!
No SSB or Airband capability on this radio however.
Take a look at a review of this radio here radiojayallen.com/qodosen-sr-...

I just found that Amazon is selling a new version of this radio, the DX-286 for $80. The keyboard interface has been improved and is more easier to use. Is the same radio and comes with a list of the new keystrokes. It will shipped with no battery.

Inspired by the design of the Sony ICF-SW1 (?), which I find very appealing... One of the key "hidden features" here is the LNA/Antenna AMP ON/OFF option. This should be a good one, indeed. Looking forward to seeing a test with an external antenna. 👍🏻

Looks very nice. I love my D808 but the “chuffing” sound when you’re tuning isn’t great. From your demo there on MW it doesn’t seem quite so pronounced, so that’s good to see. promising! 73, M0EUK

Yes, I also have the XHDATA D808 and I also find it bad about the chuffing when tuning around there is a sudden silence called chuffing on the XHDATA D808 other then that the radio is very good!

Slight resemblance to the Sony ICF-SW1 and priced like it. Only does not have all those ICF-SW1 accessories.

It has a great control for reception like LNA on off, different levels of attenuation, that only costs $79.90 (dx286 version)

Speaking of the TEF6686 radio (not the Qodosen SR-286), I purchased one as well (on Amazon) and it had the three knobs on the side, and it did not impress me. No different than my other radios.
I'm beginning to think, since these TEF6686 chips are hard to come by, as well as most radios made with them, don't have the NXP 8605 co-processor, these chips are barely functioning.
Mine, is no better than any of the silicon lab DSP chip radios I own, and own many.
A proper, fully functioning TEF6686 radio should be mind blowing, and if is not, than send it back, because you might have a fake or gimped chip.
I have purchased the Qodosen SR-286, and waiting on it to be delivered.
I also purchased 2 more TEF6686 radios (one being the LNA 5.0), and will will report back.

My TEF 6686 (two Knobs on the side) is sensitive and selective on FM but useless on LW,MW and FM. Since I bought it to try FM Dxing I wasn't too concerned but have been suprised that owners of similar models say they work well on the AM bands.

Just discovered the antenna input is not for the FM band unless mine is faulty ? Rather disappointed as the TEF6686 which has the same chip wotks fine with an external fm antenna

The antenna input works for all bands including FM MW LW SW. Mine works just fine on FM with a youloop on my rooftop. The reception of FM is superb with external antenna.😊

Not sure if i heard it right, but i thought you mentioned Jay Allen's website is of SW RX receiving but it's not entirely accurate.. Jay specializes in scrutinizing in MWBC reception and then FM BC reception in a radio review, and only sometimes he mentioned SW.i have read almost all his articles.
Maybe you are thinking about another website.

    • @KevinOReillyswl
      @KevinOReillyswl  Před 5 měsíci

He says on his Website "My hobbies are still electronics and long distance radio listening, and I enjoy AM, SW and vintage phonographs. " so SW IS one of his interests and many of the receivers on his site cover the SW bands

Too bad about your TEF 6686, mine works really well on LW, MW and SW. I guess it depends who makes it. Mine has three knobs on the side so it's a different version I suspect.

Can't agree both the 330 and D808 are totally deaf on Longwave but the SR286 shines on that band. I believe it trumps both of them (just) on MW and SW and is better on FM. I own both the 330 and a D808 but the SR286 is impressive.
