  • This week we got our hands on this stunning Tama Starphonic Copper snare, we've had our eyes on these striking drums since their 2019 release, and can't wait to put it through it's paces!
As well as taking a look at all the features of this snare, we'll be putting it to the test under the mics in 3 tunings, with and without dampening.
A special thanks goes our to our good friend Greg Hamlin for lending us this snare for today's video! (we love you Greg)

I love this snare!!! Tama nailed it when comes to their copper snares!!! The Starclassic, this one and the Star Reserve are some of the best sounding snares out there!!!

Finally! A review where a player LAYS INTO the snare! Thank you, @Drum.Dog. Great review!

    A well balanced review.
Good to hear the centre of the drum and rimshot back beats for an overall comparison.
Not for the first time well done.

Is it that we always want what we don't have? I have the Starphonic Brass and now I'm wishing I'd purchased the Copper, probably be the other way around if I'd bought this right?! Only solution to own both I suppose! Great video as always guys!

Thrilled you enjoyed the sound test! It's always our goal to show the different nuances each head can bring to a drum. Thanks for the positive feedback!

I have the steel in 13" and these things sound amazing in a mid to upper tuning with a little moongel.

First time viewing these marvellous reviews and channel. Absolutely brilliant review and reviewers. What a discovery, both snare and channel. By the way, how close are these microphoned sounds to reality? This snare sounds amazing!

Chunky copper monster, thought the low setting both dampened & un dampned really didn't sound great. Hi tension, great rim shots n sharp snappy attack, also more definition from buzz rolls etc. Do LOVE the finish, detail n features, can see why Nick nearly lost it😆😆. Thanks for your weekly reviews, keep it going guys, cheers Mike😊😉

I agree that the low tuning doesn't sound great isolated, but in a full band mix I think it would sound really good.

This the best I think so far for low tuning between star reserve and starclassic, because the depth is 7", I hope tama make 8" 😁

Did you change the Reso Tuning also here ?
I really recommend an Ambassador over G1 here .Mine Sounds better with Remo on top .
    Bottom hazy 300.
Tuning tune bot : 223hz batter /370hz bottom

Is tuning a pain with this? How would you get finger tight with those tension rods like that?😊

I was going to ask if this was the Tama Copper Snare that got the crap beaten by that Schagerl snare ? see link czcams.com/video/Y6OpFSSJLRA/video.html . But you answered my ? at the end when he asked which Tama do you like. That's easy. The Starphonic ! PS: To my ears w/ headphones, I did notice a $1000 difference between Schagerl & Tama Copper . Thanks for the reviews & wonderful content. Glad I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago. 😀
