  • This snare is unreal! I wanted to talk about it, and why I like it so much. On top of that I did a sound test with and without muffling at low, medium and high tunings. And lastly I played along to a song with some mixing to see the difference with my past covers on the Ludwig Supralite, and oh man, this thing is KILLER!

    The whole Starphonic line is awesome. I love this snare. I have the burl maple Starphonic. It works for almost all styles. Just tune it up or down. It’s the best you can get for the money.

      Yeah, it's amazing! The burl maple sounds great! I was contemplating getting that over the Brass. I think that just may be my next snare haha.

    Yessss this snare is great. Whenever. I get an urge to buy another snare I stop myself since I honestly don't think you can get better than this. Obviously it's all subjective, however, I don't think sensitivity wise you'll get much better

      @TomPompei  Před 2 lety +1

      Hahaha, its not as noticeable while playing to be honest. I am planning on getting a more heavy duty one soon, but It's one of those yamaha lightweight stands and tbh it's worth the tradeoff sometimes. Thanks! Appreciate it. 🤙

    Hey man!
    Thinking of changing my 14x6,5 dw performance brass snare for one of these!
    The hardware on this one seems much better and smoother. I usually play metal but I also play in a indie/pop/rock band and need a versatile snare, that is not too loud. I noticed my dw snare is so fucking loud and i have second thoughts on the dw because of that. Although it is a beauty haha. Would you say the starohonic works in almost every genre? And is it extremly loud??😅

    • @TomPompei
      @TomPompei  Před 10 měsíci +1

      It's pretty damn versatile my man! And yes it's fucking loud 😂. Should be a great fit in any genre. I play a lot of funk, jazz fusion, prog metal and punk/indie rock. Works great with all of them

    I am looking to buy Tama starphonic Brass or Tama starphonic Bronze. Which one would you suggest?

    • @TomPompei
      @TomPompei  Před 2 lety

      Hey! I haven't played the bronze, but I do know that bronze snares generally have a darker tone and are pretty clear/loud sounding drums. I like the Brass a lot for it's overtones and resonance so it all depends on what sound you're going for. I'm sure either option will get you a killer snare. I'm a big fan of the brass though so far.

    Lmfao why did some guy in the comments get pressed abt the coffee in the comments 😭. In all seriousness Great snare and great review! Do you think it could work for lighter jazz, perhaps with a quintet? (Stand up bass, no amps)

    • @TomPompei
      @TomPompei  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Lol I know, bro took it personally. Thanks a lot! Yeah It could definitely work, there's probably snares that are better suited for it, but honestly this snare is so versatile, I feel like it could fit in just about every setting if you tune it well and mute/unmute when needed

    why is it wobbling around ? is the stand faulty?

    • @TomPompei
      @TomPompei  Před rokem

      Faulty is arguable hahaha. It's the yamaha lightweight stand which is nice for the weight, but the snare is heavy and I play pretty high so it isn't great. I finally switched it out a couple days ago, so no more wobble.

    Supralite is not aluminium. Anyway my favourite snare are Yamaha stage custom steel 6,5" (I preferred It to Supraphonic or starphonic aluminium I have had for ex.) and Premier 35 (Beverley 21).
