- This snare is unreal! I wanted to talk about it, and why I like it so much. On top of that I did a sound test with and without muffling at low, medium and high tunings. And lastly I played along to a song with some mixing to see the difference with my past covers on the Ludwig Supralite, and oh man, this thing is KILLER!

beautiful sound and playing. I really enjoyed your playing to the song at the end! thanks for the vid.
Thanks a lot Jay! I appreciate it. 🙏
Yes! Great video man. I ordered this exact snare from Cymbal Fusion. Super excited to ck it out!
The whole Starphonic line is awesome. I love this snare. I have the burl maple Starphonic. It works for almost all styles. Just tune it up or down. It’s the best you can get for the money.
Yeah, it's amazing! The burl maple sounds great! I was contemplating getting that over the Brass. I think that just may be my next snare haha.
@@TomPompei That was my exact thought about the brass/ Nickel plated snare while watching your vid.
Awesome! It's a great sounding snare. I really love the resonance, it's such an interesting sound.
sick! amazing sounding snare
Thanks dude!! Yeah, it's an unreal snare.
I own this snare it's my favorite and one of my best pieces of gear. It's a must for any gigging drummer!
Agreed! I love it!
Sounds very similar to my 5.5 x14 nickel over brass starclassic. It’s the best snare I ever played.
Love to hear it! I haven't played the brass starclassic, but I imagine it's great. Tama makes some killer drums 💪🥁
I put cheap 1.6ml triple flanged hoops on the top hoop. Total game changer.
Yessss this snare is great. Whenever. I get an urge to buy another snare I stop myself since I honestly don't think you can get better than this. Obviously it's all subjective, however, I don't think sensitivity wise you'll get much better
Oh yup
I have the Alu version of this snare. It's great. I prefer it over my Ludwig BB snare...
I am trying to decide between this & the Stewart Copeland signature. They both sound incredible...
Can't go wrong with either 🤙
That high tuning reminds me of the Tommy The Cat intro 😊
I fucking love Primus
The aeropress hell yeah😂
Yeah you like that 🤣
how does that wobbly snare stand not make you crazy. sounds good btw
Hahaha, its not as noticeable while playing to be honest. I am planning on getting a more heavy duty one soon, but It's one of those yamaha lightweight stands and tbh it's worth the tradeoff sometimes. Thanks! Appreciate it. 🤙
Hey man!
Thinking of changing my 14x6,5 dw performance brass snare for one of these!
The hardware on this one seems much better and smoother. I usually play metal but I also play in a indie/pop/rock band and need a versatile snare, that is not too loud. I noticed my dw snare is so fucking loud and i have second thoughts on the dw because of that. Although it is a beauty haha. Would you say the starohonic works in almost every genre? And is it extremly loud??😅
It's pretty damn versatile my man! And yes it's fucking loud 😂. Should be a great fit in any genre. I play a lot of funk, jazz fusion, prog metal and punk/indie rock. Works great with all of them
@@TomPompeisounds great man!
The only dilemma i have with it just because of the volume! My band is a pretty new started and plays on small venues etc!😅
@@martin.adolfssson
Practice your dynamics.
Did you change the heads already? I have Ambasadors, top and bottom, and that is a real game changer on this snare. It's pure magic 🤯
I changed the Resonant head, but not the top. I'll have to try out the ambassadors on it! Thanks for the tip. 👏
I thought the snare sounded good... and then I changed the heads. Man...
I am looking to buy Tama starphonic Brass or Tama starphonic Bronze. Which one would you suggest?
Hey! I haven't played the bronze, but I do know that bronze snares generally have a darker tone and are pretty clear/loud sounding drums. I like the Brass a lot for it's overtones and resonance so it all depends on what sound you're going for. I'm sure either option will get you a killer snare. I'm a big fan of the brass though so far.
I own this same brass version and love it!
Lmfao why did some guy in the comments get pressed abt the coffee in the comments 😭. In all seriousness Great snare and great review! Do you think it could work for lighter jazz, perhaps with a quintet? (Stand up bass, no amps)
Lol I know, bro took it personally. Thanks a lot! Yeah It could definitely work, there's probably snares that are better suited for it, but honestly this snare is so versatile, I feel like it could fit in just about every setting if you tune it well and mute/unmute when needed
Lol, i am a home barista and a drummer and i was like, "did i click a wrong video? youtube got bugged"
Lol I love to hear it. I had to do a coffee intro ☕
Supralite has a Steel Shell .
Yeah I messed up haha
In this case, high tuning for my taste, with and without muffle ring.
I'd agree with you there. I actually tuned it up a bit higher than I have in the video. I like a high snare haha
why is it wobbling around ? is the stand faulty?
Faulty is arguable hahaha. It's the yamaha lightweight stand which is nice for the weight, but the snare is heavy and I play pretty high so it isn't great. I finally switched it out a couple days ago, so no more wobble.
Supralite is not aluminium. Anyway my favourite snare are Yamaha stage custom steel 6,5" (I preferred It to Supraphonic or starphonic aluminium I have had for ex.) and Premier 35 (Beverley 21).
Yeah it's steel, that was my bad. Stage custom is great! Never played the Premier 35. I think I've seen em used at guitar center
supralite is steel is it not?
Yeah it's steel, it was a brain fart
the Supralite snare has a steel shell not aluminum.
You are correct, I mixed it up with the Supraphonic, which is a much better snare haha.
dude... dude... dude....
I've only watched 54 seconds but I'm already doubting your ability with this coffee intro... Seriously...a bit too much? Now any Tama player has my respect but seriously, out of where did you wind up with the idea of weighing the water you put in a cup of coffee? Fuck it I'm off to see how the people who grew your coffee beans drink this coffee beans first. Later. ... Hopefully
Got the idea from millions of others that do it. It's not that deep bruh, it's the same idea as putting a specific number of scoops into a drip maker
Lots of talking
