    Donald F. Glut has been active in both the entertainment and publishing industries since 1966. Don has had a long and varied career. He has been a professional musician, actor, film director, executive producer, photographer, magazine editor, proofreader and (very briefly, for an advertising agency) copywriter, but is mostly known for his long career as a freelance writer. He has written and directed feature-length motion pictures, documentaries and music videos, authored approximately 80 fiction and non-fiction published books, myriad TV scripts (live action and animation shows, network and syndicated), comic-book scripts, short stories, magazine articles, even music and theatre. He has been involved with numerous popular franchises such as Star Wars, The Monkees, Tarzan, Spider-Man, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Vampirella, Masters of the Universe, The Flintstones, Jonny Quest and many others, and created original comic-book characters for Gold Key, Marvel and DC. Arguably Don is best known for his novelization of the second "Star Wars" movie The Empire Strikes Back (#1 Best Seller). Don currently executive-produces, writes and directs "traditional-style" horror for his company Pecosborn Productions, and writes scripts for The Creeps horror comics magazine. Also, he is a Southern California representative of Las Vegas Talent Agency. Note: Any motion picture titles that may be listed prior to Dinosaur Valley Girls (1997) are of amateur movies, the first of 41 of which Don Glut made when he was nine years old.

    Stuff we use:
    LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
    AUDIO
    Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/425k5rG
    Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/3WEuz0k
    LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv

    Fascinating interview with Don Glut, a true master of the comic book industry. His insights on how to write a comic book and his honest views on the challenges of making a living from your passion project are incredibly valuable. I especially appreciated his candor about the struggles he faced and the importance of persistence. A must-watch for any aspiring comic book writer or anyone chasing their creative dreams.

    Very inspiring thank you! Except this man worked his butt off at his craft or networking for his entire life for what appears to be most of his waking hours. Now I feel like it's too late for me and I'm too old... But he's keeping at it so I can work at it too.

    ..this is probably my favorite interview on this subject..and I had a grin on my face throughout.. This man is a no limit person - Film maker, producer, short story/ screen writer, novelist, comic creator, musician etc.etc What an inspiration!! I loved the Rules especially quoting Dirty Harry... And regardless whether there are networking opportunities and free food at the parties - the main reason to go ..." there could be pretty girls there...!" Thanks Don :)

    Comics are just storyboards that show where the beats are--a seminal pitch vehicle used across both commercial and entertainment content realms to achieve buy-in from the producers behind the project.

      Would you consider a novel just a film treatment?
      Both Audiences are savvy enough to tell when a comic or book is being written solely for a Hollywood pitch.

    • @geargeekpdx3566
      @geargeekpdx3566 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@dextergarner1286 no, a novel is its own unique medium for stories. A 'treatment' is also its own form as well, basically a "beat sheet" for story points created to help pitch what is often a novel that is being converted to a film.

    Wow, and they say kids today are lazy. All due respect, I’m 22, I love writing and want it to be my career. But man, to work is to live. I have my real work which I’m passionate about, but it’s the work we’re basically forced to do, the day-to-day jobs, that give us a life full of nuance - a life worth writing about (or at least a life worth examining). Besides, professional activity keeps our minds sharp. Again, I don’t mean to judge this man, I don’t know him. But I’ve quickly found out how eccentric and out-of-touch from reality you can become when you don’t work.
