Your experience is so interesting just played the 2nd case of the 1st box, we felt we had basically hit it by the 1st checkpoint, and then by the 2nd point we realised we wanted to update a few answers. We didn't have time to read every card so we stopped there and we hit the answer exactly. But honestly... I think this has always been the issue with Consulting Detective. The games are good when there is deduction, and boring or trivial when the answers are strewn about. You never want to feel like someone just tells you the answer straight up. It needs to be piecing together different information and deducing who is lying or leaving out information, which motivations make sense and who could actually do it. That's how deduction games work in my experience! This one seems pretty much on track with that based on the first 2 cases I've played in the 1st box.
Have played 2 cases in the first box with my wife...we really do enjoy the "journey" like you said. We take notes and analyze pretty much everything, enjoying the stories, characters, and the settings as we go. The mechanics are so easy and enjoyable, and the deck of cards works very well for this kind of experience. That said, I'd agree that there are be some bits in the solutions that seem sprung upon you at the end, or could be taken in a few different ways, so there is a mild sense of "unsatisfaction" as you're likely to be slightly off on your final solution. But I assume this is done to keep an air of mystery - meant to keep you guessing right up until the very end. I am looking forward to this second box, as well as any future editions of "Suspect", even though the entire package isn't perfect.
