I'll agree the VERY LIKELY insurrection is 100% authoritarianism.
We all agree Trump is Hitler (at least for this exercise)... when congress failed to do their job in impeachment, democrats weaponizing civilian courts (against all our laws and rules and decorum)... is that authoritarian?

I'm glad his conscience will be clear. Of course, I'll have to go back in the closet. Or ynkow. We'll, I don't even know. I try not to think about it.
Btw what do you think of people like
Cincinnatus in history? I know Julius caeser would be the Roman General destiny and his camp would bring up, but you could also bring up Cincinnatus. He was **given** power, he didn't ask for it. Kind of lilenthe power biden has now, with the supreme court decision. By using the power, and the passing it off, he'd be doing the same thing. He could even use the power to actually limit the power of the next president.
And besides, the next president is going to have that power and use it **regardless** of if he doesnt, so it kind of renders his decision to not use it meaningless, other than it being a symbolic gesture.

Most Trump supporters have no clue the reality of the ramifications of this and are being told that they are fighting fascism with stuff like this. They don't think any of this stuff is giving Trump unlimited power, they think it's fighting against the corrupt power of the courts and whatnot. The majority would absolutely not say that, especially if it was worded that way, because they are under the impression that they are supporting something wildly different. Most supporters are just completely uninformed and being lied to. There is a reason that a lot of more educated Conservaties do not like Trump AT ALL and are trying to fight against all this. It's just like with Communists, most think they are supporting a liberating policy that will make everyone more free and equal because they are operating on an entirely separate factual framework.

The ruling says 2 things: 1. the President has immunity from core duties outlines in article 2. Not really controversial, you cant prosecute a president for a prison escape when they issue a pardon. You cant prosecute a president with manslaughter when he orders soldiers into battle. Etc.
    2. Official actions requisite for the practical assertion of 1 are also immune. This is really where the controversy actually rests, and more specifically, how do we determine which presidential acts are official, and what stops a president from claiming any/every action is official. The court is not clear here- in fact the majority opinion expressly states this hasnt been answered by the lower court, so they consequently cant review or rule on it.
How you jump from that to, we have a king that can expand his core powers to any and everything, is legit unhinged. This will 100% come back to the court to determine how to evaluate what is an official action, and i imagine this conversation will age badly when that ruling makes these takes even more obviously silly than this already dumb and alarmist take is.
Lastly, there is a built in democratic solution thats completely ignored in their pipe dream ramble of "king Biden's" dictatorship... its called a constitutional amendment, and we have a bunch. It's so crazy to say, we hate this "king ruling" so lets ignore the constitutional remedy and instead make a King to defeat the king ruling. Unhinged.

So to summarize this video. 45 minutes of Dan wanting to coup the government and do a little fascism to prevent a lot of fascism.
The rest is counterpoints not understanding the difference between a core function and a lawful order and not understanding that the ruling is saying that core functions cannot be reviewed and are immune. Which then means that unlawful orders cannot even be reviewed to determine if they were unlawful. And finally he falls back on the 25th amendment and impeachment which do nothing for the criminal immunity and even if they did they are entirely political and only work if you don't have exclusively loyalists which under Trump is exactly what we saw. The 25th was never going to be envoked for him and the Senate protected him in spite of the fact that they all knew and said he was guilty. So every single thing counterpoints said totally falls flat.

End 1: democracy in America is mostly back to how it was, the Supreme Court is packed ‘illegitimately’, the president used his powers in an unprecedented authoritarian manner, it is written into law that it can never be done again and can’t be undone without 90% approval. Biden has a higher chance at winning election because saved democracy like chad dan wanted.
End 2: nothing happens, president is still probably a king, everyone still hates Biden, King trump is elected.
End 3: nothing happens, Biden wins election, ???, profit everything is fixed!, wake up from simulation.
the ends is all that matters. You think the means matters because the means has things attached to it. But the things attached to it are only bad or good because they affect the end. In this case the means don’t “destroy the entire purpose”, the means are the only way to get to a non-authoritarian end.
Destiny spoke about how Americans support the system being corrupted in the way that is. Dan is only suggesting to use the system, not go outside of it, to bring the system back in line to how it was.
Dan also brings up a good point that the people that voted for Biden would want king trump to be the thing he fights hardest against, most Americans would support using the and fixing the corrupted system to prevent that.
In the end what does destiny even suggest? Fucking nothing, “well there’s an election coming up, let’s see what people vote for.” “I’ll just move I guess…” It’s a joke, trump will win this election and he will be king because Biden has a bunch of Destinys around him and not enough Dans.

Dan's position is so doomsday and putting the cart before the horse. People on all sides are literally forgetting the absolute basics of our government and diving waist deep into the weeds on it to try to "fix" it, even when the ruling is likely to be clarified in the coming months. Judicial branch's job is to rule on the law. It is the left-wing view that the unelected judges from the judicial branch legislates from the bench. It is the right wing view that you rule on the law as written and use the court to clarify gray areas according to the spirit of the law (actual purpose of the court). While I do agree that this ruling is a step too far, I can see a core concept that they are addressing in the gray area of the law.
All you have to do to fix this is to create a literal law addressing this exact thing in congress. The supreme court can then rule on the constitutionality/legality of that new law vs immunity. Considering we have an originalist supreme court, if there is a new law that explicitly states and outlines executive immunity they are likely to rule along those grounds. At the very least, it kicks it back to the court for another ruling to allow the courts to sort it out even more.

12:02 it doesn’t even work since the immunity is against crimes and not a ruling of absolute authority. This may seem similar sounding and it is nuanced, but there’s a difference. Going with his hypothetical proposed scenario, yes Biden wouldn’t be able to be charged with a crime for the official acts, but the Supreme Court would still get the final say on whether or not the president has the ability to bypass the the requirement of a senate confirmation, and the power to expand the courts is one held by the legislative branch. Because of this the court would be able to dismiss the 4 attempted judges to be added.
The ruling gave the president the authority to commit any crime he likes but it didn’t give the authority to legislate with absolute power.

How people can’t see how “official duty” is so broad and open ended and how almost anything in the executive branch can be interpreted as “official duty”. Honestly if Donald trump gets voted in, I just don’t think people care about being American or having equal rule of law. Like I’m just so shock and only hope that: 1 trump doesn’t get voted in, 2 or the ruling get changed quickly before anybody can take advantage of it. But honestly my hope is dwindling down

A ton of people still wanted a German empire compared to democracy which had much less support than authoritarian rule, many just disagreed on what type of authoritarian they wanted (i.e. the old monarch, a new monarchy, a communist authoritarian, a fascistic authoritarian of some variety, etc.) and before you know it they went right back to authoritarianism as soon as one of those authoritarian groups intimidated/persuaded the others to get behind their cause...

Jesus Christ. Hearing all my left-wing brothers and sisters trip over each other to use horrific dictatorial tactics heroically, so we can save our democracy is very depressing. So many times as I watched the MAGA virus consume American conservatism, I would shake my head and say, "Man, no matter what happens, WE would NEVER act like that. WE would never start to deny reality and justify things antithetical to our democracy and our most hallowed American values."
    1. If in order to 'win' this election and the larger ideological struggle, we have to literally adopt the tools and tricks of our political opponents that offend us the most, then how is that even winning? How is that not us just joining the MAGA movement, while telling ourselves that we're still the good guys?
    2. If dems did somehow decide to do the whole only-just-this-one-time gambit and managed to reverse-UNO the supreme court decision and also help dems eke out a presidential victory, I cannot imagine an America that wasn't utterly disgusted with our party. They would correctly crow about the depths of hypocrisy that democrats have sunk to. And in the next (presumably free and fair) election, democrats would be electorally punished in a red tsunami the likes of which we may never have seen.
    3. I think the procedural complexties of the dems doing this kind of anti-fascist pseudo-fascist ju jitsu are (IMHO) far more difficult and messy and likely to collapse or fail or be thwarted than any of these starry-eyed anti-heroes are allowing themselves to acknowledge. This is a sweeping and bizarre ruling that is both untested and unprecedented. How do dems cobble together an air-tight strategy to use it in a series of masterstrokes that are not derailed before this election happens?

People see Trump doing that as an inevitability, so in their heads, the only defense we have against trump becoming god emperor and executing people for making mean tweets about him is to have Biden abuse these powers first.

One big issue with the "only-just-this-one-time gambit" is that it's super easy to counter. The republicans just have to impeach all the democratic SC justices once they get into power.
Hell, they wouldn't even need to do that. They could just imprison all the democrats, make a new supreme court, and the have that new supreme court rule that all their actions are constitutional.
This idea that you can punch someone and then say "I made a rule that says you can't punch me back!" is pretty naive thinking.
