This week I review the Pioneer DDJ SX2 DJ Decks using Serato!
Many people ask me what DJ decks or DJ controllers I have and what DJ decks I recommend. In this DJ tutorial, I thought I would start off by just telling you what it is that I love about my DJ decks.

I loved this video. It is very simple to understand and follow. Thank you for this! Although i have experiencing mixing vinyl, I have none with digital music and ddj's, so I'll be checking out the beginners course as well, just because I purchased the SX2 and Id like to familiarize myself with it more.

Well I’ve been using the Ddj-SB3 for almost a year now and I feel like the controller was holding a lot back.So after doing a lot of research and watching everyone of your videos and bought the tutorials. I ordered the SX2 last night. Thanks a lot for your help man. Your videos made it possible for me learn a lot from basically not knowing anything at all.
i've literally just bought a sx2 today after using the sb for 2 years but it has just broken, so time for a new one. How have you found the sx2?
This is a controller right??? So it controls the filter in the application, so obviously the filter sounds professional... they’re the same on all the controllers... the only way they’d sound different is if you switch applications is it not?

Lol try the sb3 or sr2 first
the filters are serato dj pro filters, the ddj sx2 just controlls the filter on the software, it's not the controller's filter

don't get either. Since you're a beginner buy DDJ-SB or DDJ400.
Is it just me or are the DDJ-SX, DDJ-SX2, DDJ-SX3, DDJ-SR, DDJ-SR2, DDJ-SZ and DDJ SZ2 all the same with very minor differences?

13:40 Don’t know why you wouldn’t use the feature...like when producing your own transitions during a set.
Just add a filter and you’re done...not to mentioned adds some flare. ;)
Question... can you use the XLR and RCA audio outputs at the same time i.e using active speakers through XLR and an AMP through RCA giving you more speakers and power?
Why do you and other tutor always say DJ deck are not for begginner I like to buy once I bought a sax I like selmer MK6 so I buy the New Ref54 I have no idea about DJ but I really like the DDJ1000 and I will buy once and learn on it, instead of buying and buying later, so the money on entry level controler is a waste of money. 300 is a lot of money which you cannot return to my pot.

Phil Harris Will do. I'll be working with the Numark NVII controller. Slightly different than yours but most of the functions are the same. I'll be using Serrato DJ software as well since it comes with the controller. You're really good at explaining with clarity and detail so, I'm sure things will go smoothly. Talk to you soon.

The SZ2 is a good controller but it is not worth the additional money. The only real advantage it provides is the larger decks. If you want larger decks you should be looking at the Numark NS7III.
What about the ddj 1000?

Can someone explain why serato dj pro would freeze in the middle of a song or set?
Hi, this month I'll buy a new controller, and I can't decide between Pioneer Ddj Sx-2 and Pioneer Ddj Rx.
For you which is the better? And why? (I use Serato at the moment, but sometimes I've already tried Rekordbox)

Hey Phil, been DJing for over a year now (mostly house disco and techno) and as am going to Uni in Bristol in September I want some new decks to hopefully start getting more gigs. So far I have DJed in a local bar and mix nigh on everyday using my Serato Mixtrack Pro 2's. Should I upgrade to a second hand set of these or a bit more of an investment in myself with the XR2s, so I can transition easier to using CDJs in clubs.

Oh sorry. Well I live these decks. You can easily transition from these to CDJ’s. I would highly recommend these decks. The XR2 are for rekordbox. That is the only thing to consider.

Hey Phil, would you suggest I use the Numark Mixtrack Pro (the very first one)? I am on a VERY tight budget. Is there another deck you would suggest for someone on a very very tight budget?

How tight is your budget? I am thinking of making a video on this very soon. These decks look basic but there are enough features to learn all about beat matching and different transition techniques. As I always say, the basics are 95% of DJing so I think you are good to go.
Preferably, under $75(I know that is almost nothing to work with, the reason I chose the Mixtrack Pro is b/c you can find it on ebay for less than $75).
my school uses the mixtrack pro in dj club and it works for all the dances. It's a great controller, nice big jog wheels and everything you really need.
It was my first one. I used it with vdj and it never failed me, it was one of the most reliable controler i had.

Hi Phil and thanks for your videos. I just got a used DDJ-SX2.
It's great except for the fact that I can't backspin for some reason. Is there a special fonction to hit before or something? I had a DDJ-Wego 3 and could backspin with it but with the sx2 the song won't even "rewind" a bit when I spin firmly the deck backwards.

Serato Pro running on Mac Mojave 10.14
I tried to update firmware but when I double click on the DDJ-SX2_UpdaterApp_v1.06.jar file it says that there is no DDJ-SX2 sx2 connected although it is.
Controller works fine besides that.
You need to sync up the effects and sample functions in Serato DJ Pro then it will work
My roll keys all went down a beat, like the top left one loops a longer time now, any idea on how to reset it?

Search Numark's controllers for decent budget models. Hercules controllers if you're broke but just want to start learning. Otherwise, I would recommend starting with a quality Pioneer DDJ-SB, even if you have to save up for it. Around USD$250, probably less.
Does anyone know another good controller that is similar to this one but uses rekordbox? Thanks.
