Near Death Experience On Bangladesh's Worst Bus 🇧🇩

  • As much as we did not want to, we had no choice but to take an overnight bus from Dhaka to Cox's Bazar.
After many a rough journey, this was the one that finally went wrong. Luckily, we survived unhurt, but we had no idea who or what we hit and if they were okay afterwards.
If you travel around Asia, avoid long-distance buses at all costs; it is never worth gambling with your life.

I can give you little inside why the driver didn't stop even after that incident. Becuase robbery happens in night in few place. Sometime robbers try to stop bus by putting blockers or other stuff so that bus drvier slow down and they can get in to rob everyone. And the incident that happened with your bus seems like the case. Because if they had actually smashed other vehicles , the other vehicle owner should have called the p0lice right away. Since they didn't bother to call the police, you can be sure this was a trap. This is probably the main reason I can think of why they didn't stop. I don't think sleeping cause the issue, there is a second incharge who sits next to the driver, if that happened, he should have caught earlier. But I do agree on the fact, that they should have checked with all to see everyone is ok .

Also keep in mind, majority in this country don't speak English. Many knows only basic words and sentence. As a result many prefer to avoid a long discussion with foreigners. With that limited knowledge of English I don't think they will ever try to explain the actual situation. This could be another reason why they haven't explained you anthing. I know its frustating but language barrier is really a big issue in this country. Take the train ride back to dhaka. Wish you best luck and looking forward for next video. Keep smiling.

Do you remember when you were in China, your bus stopped at the service area for a few hours? That's because China's highways prohibit buses from driving on highways from 2am to 5am to avoid accidents caused by driver fatigue. Although you may be disturbed by snorers and unable to sleep, but I think it's better than risking your life.

They actually took the responsibility to make sure you reach to your destination. Well what happened there is , green line has the most number of luxury buses. You took the economy bus . That's why they actually needed time to arrange replacement bus from the depot.
The reason anyone was not complaining is that , they actually think that accidents are the things that might happen any time randomly. Even after the accident they managed to drive it and reach the nearest station where you can have a bit of rest until the replacement arrives .
Just imagine spending night in middle of nowhere at midnight . Is it safe ? or the driver taking responsibility of each passenger on board and driving the bus to reach the nearest station is safe?
Everyone understands that , that's why no one was complaining about the situation. As the bus provider handled the situation responsibly.

I'm from Bangladesh, but living in Europe for half of my life. This is one of the main reasons that stops me from visiting BD with my kids and wife. We just don't know if we will come back alive or uninjured. Bangladeshi roads are death traps. There are a few reasons for the bus or any driver not to stop. If they do, there is a risk of the bus or car getting mobbed and burnt. This is also the negative side of our culture that in a situation like this, people focus on destruction rather than the safety of the affected. This is why no bus/car driver would ever stop after any accident until they find a safe shelter no matter what. The attitude of the bus counter staff members was absolutely shameful! Glad that you both are safe and hope this does not take away any positive experience that you have in Bangladesh. Scottish and Irish are my favorite people in Europe. Thanks for visiting BD.

So sorry this had to happened to you. Let me explain some things here, please don't get offended.
Why the bus driver hadn't stopped the bus?
FOR YOUR SAFETY. The bus was in the the middle of nowhere & stopping there would've been a huge risk of being robbed. So, the driver kept driving for an hour to stop at a safe place. Every vehicle on the road in Bangladesh at night is at risk of being robbed.
Why they didn't tell you this reason?
Because of THE LANGUAGE BARRIER. Please remember this while you're in foreign countries. You will face this again and again.
    What about Green Line?
This company is THE LEAST BAD bus company in Bangladesh. Have you noticed I haven't said good? They should've apologized to you & calm you down & even with the language barrier they should've tried to make you understand.
About you two - YOU'RE TOO NAIVE FOR SOUTH ASIA. Please, hire a guide from a renowned tour company if you can. Use everything premium, for example planes, 4 or 5 star hotels, cars provided by hotels(ask for it), get the information from officers or hotel manager where you are about to go & make them accountable, if you find a trustworthy English speaking officer ask for his contact number.
Really worried about you two guys. Hope rest of your trip in Bangladesh is safe.

First off really enjoying the vlogs alan and shannon. have fun and enjoy life to the fullest. Couple of things,
you guys should have opted out.for the flight literally less then hours and cheap, i get it you want the experience and all but not worth it as its dangerous and 100% tourist don't know that they are robbers and smugglers on the highways that try to block the bus to stop it so they can come in with guns and knifes and take all of your beloved belongings. So the driver did what he was trained for and made the right decision to keep driving and get you guys to the transfer center. knowledge is power yet this is something you wont get on a simple google search. anyways yall be fine and enjjoy your trip. waiting on the next vlog..

I am so sad to hear this bus accident happened to you guys, lucky among all the unlucky is you guys didn't get hurt, that's most important. I could understand you were so terrified, I will be the same if it happened to me, luckily so far I didn't experienced any bus accidents. The most furious is the driver didn't even bother to stop to check if he hit someone, he didn't even apologize and ask if everyone especially children on the bus are fine or not, his altitude was so unprofessional and the company was also not acting responsibly. You are right when travelling we should try to avoid taking long-haul especially overnight bus, even I wouldn't take those tuktuk taxis in South Asia. Anyway wish you guys stay safe and love from China.

I am a Bangladeshi atheist and that's not true. Even from a (mono)theistic viewpoint, believing in a benevolent divine entity *only* when one perceives danger would be insincere and perhaps not count to the supposedly omniscient God (hence it knows that the fear is temporary and the belief insincere). As for me, I don't need faith-based reassurance to feel safe - if it helps you, good for you.

So sorry you had to go through this experience. We had a very unsavoury experience with green line ourselves. They made a standard pit stop and while my wife and I were taking a washroom break, the bus straight up left without us, no call or headcount to check if everyone boarded the bus. We had to take another bus and ride for 30 minutes to catch up with our initial bus which had our luggage. They just laughed the matter off just like they did in your video. No accountability whatsoever. The sad reality is that most of us here in Bangladesh are highly desensitised to reckless bus drivers because we are so used to it which is why most of us will just shake it off.
I would strongly advice you to take a flight to cox’s bazaar even though it’s much more expensive. Hope the rest of your trip is safer brother, take care!

It's crucial that incidents like these receive widespread coverage in Bangladesh to raise awareness and prompt appropriate action from authorities. The safety of individuals should always be a top priority, and it's essential for the police to thoroughly investigate the accident and take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. i hope if you come to Hong Kong or visit Japan you'll reconsider the buses, both Municipal and the Highway buses are decent, and even overnighters in Japan are decent, with several highway pit-stops along the way to stretch your legs. although you'd still want to bring ear plugs from all the snoring. These two places should give you a refresh on the bus system being a decent way to travel around. I love the buses in Tokyo's outer areas, you see so much more because they drive through a lot of local streets. Same goes for Hong Kong, maybe a little less for Macau but it's still not bad there, especially for crossing the bridges between Macau side and Taipa/Coloane(aka Cotai) side.
