The prototype of this press was was built for a customer who was a bookbinder and wanted to print his own covers. I thought that I would offer it to the letterpress community as there is no one (that I could find) that makes a new letterpress. It is made from the best cabinetmaking materials and is built to last. It will do small sizes as well poster sized prints, with traditional lead type as well as photopolymer. Carriage runs on heavy duty drawer guides and the 50 pound cylinder spins on heavy ball bearings for smooth movement. Cylinder is fully height-adjustable to about 2" so it opens up the option of using items to print that won't fit under a standard type-high cylinder.
This is a gravity style press, which means that it uses gravity to create pressure between the cylinder and the type, just like the old proofing presses.
I also sell a complete line of affordable bookbinding equipment and also a paper making press on the same website - Jak na to + styl
What an excellent demonstration of this new proofing press. It looks like an excellent way to print short runs. I'm familiar with the designer/manufacturer's bookbinding equipment. This press looks just as well made.
Your press looks great!
Wonderful job here
Thank you!
amazing work! great quality. if i had the money id buy this
This is a beautiful press. Would it work for unmounted lino? How about intaglio? Something like a copper plate, for instance.
This press does not provide enough pressure to do what you want. It takes a tremendous amount of pressure to print off of lino, intaglio and copper plates. That's why a lino press is usually used as it puts a lot of pressure over a thin line of the plate.
Would you recommend this to do blind embossing from a photopolymer plate? And do you know how much pressure is produced relative to your bottle jack press?
I don't think this press will provide enough pressure to do what you want. This creates a fraction of the pressure the jack press does.
It will do debossing but the paper needs to be softer and the packing just right. The jack press is definitely what you want for the blind embossing, which needs a tremendous amount of pressure.

2 questions...how much is shipping and can this work with wooden type?
Sorry for the late reply. Contact me through the website with address and I can give it to you from there.
Nice, but I rather use the Gutenberg press
So would I but then find one in working order at a decent price, and then there is the shipping costs...
This may be styled after a proofing press but people have printed
on presses like this for years. It's not meant as a commercial
press but for someone who wants to get started in letterpress without
breaking the bank.
