For clarity, You're explaining and demonstrating a Zeiss Ikonta 521, which is indeed a 6x4.5 camera. In the eBay listings you show, is a Zeiss Ikonta 521/16 which is a 6x6 camera. As a bonus, the 521 in 6x4.5 format is slightly cheaper than the 6x6 model. Ultimately, both are great and very portable medium format cameras.
The only thing to consider when choosing one of these cheap folding cameras, is that generally there might be a lot of problems with them which is why they aren’t so desired. First of all most of these come from the 50s and 60s so they will usually need some CLA as they’re just so damn old the timing on the shutter will almost always be off. Second they’re bellows cameras so there’s a good chance you’ll get light leaks or pinholes in the bellows as most people leave them for decorations folded out. Third these are mostly rangefinder cameras and as such will go out of calibration over years of not being used and will mean you don’t be able to tell if your camera is in focus until you get your negatives back.
Most are not even rangefinders but viewfinders only. And 4th point to bear in mind : their lens is often out of plane because someone dropped them and the metal arms are bent (making un unintended tilt/shift and making all pictures out of focus). So IMO better buy them in thrift stores / garage sales and inspect them good.
I love the pictures you took in the Japanese garden in Hamburg. I personally took one if my first medium Format pictures there on the same day I bought my Mamiya RB 67.
I randomly found a Franka solida record at a second-hand store for 12 €, it looks kind of similar. I have no experience with analogue, but I've got myself a film and am excited to experiment and learn!
Yeah, I’ve had a couple and the bellows are really bad unless you’re lucky turning your pictures into Holga style at best. That’s why they’re 60.00. Spent a couple hundred dollars on different ones because I wanted one so badly, and never got one that made photos anything like this.
@@joshuawahl290 it is the same size and takes, if you have the mask that comes with it, for 6x6 and 6x4,5 formats. The carls zeiss it has is very crispy. If you combine with a range finder like the voigtländer, is a super combo. Or you can use at 1/100 f:8 or f:11 and set the focus on 2,5 or 3m and you dont have to worry about focusing (always with iso 400 or 800). Search for welta weltax, there is varios model, from before war, after, with carl zeiss or othe lenses. ✌️👍

Agfa isola, Bilora bella, and Agfa isolette are also an alternative

love the zeiss folders tho only a few models have coupled rangefinder, everything else is basically guess focus

Keep in mind that the coating on the lenses on these cameras are often long gone

So is a medium format camera any camera still using some type of film rather than digital?
