  • It's about time for me to do an update to my tools video. I have further refined the things I use. I have added now tools and stopped using old tools and I thought I would share where I am now. Plus a little bit of how I use some of my tools.

    Hey brother! Great video! I'm building my tool kit and found your suggestions to be right on par with fixing some of the difficulty I've had with my model builds. I agree that doing the Metal Earth kits are relaxing, and a great way to spend a few hours. Keep up the good work, and continue to post builds! Thanks again!

      Thank you. I've been doing videos on these models since 2013, so I guess I have some experience.

    You are awesome and so helpful. After watching your videos I have decided that I’m going to send back my kits. Too tedious, my eyes aren’t the greatest and I am having shoulder surgery in a few weeks. The models are awesome but not for me. I am 64 years old and I have bad right rotator and my left shoulder needs to be replaced. Again I am glad I watched the videos but after seeing them I am not sure I would have the patience. Thank You
    Keep on building
    PS- I have the San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge and the Mars River which I am going to send back
    Thanks again, very very helpful
    Gary

    I Mentioned in another video about " Shoe Goo " since you talked about locktigh I think you might try this product . it Is a rubber cement found in the shoe section of Walmart . It is a very aggressive adhesive and has saved me from buying several models . I enjoy your videos but your first one was the AT-AT and as I remember you where not that sure about it . LOL ! your videos help me out quite a bit thank you .

      That AT-AT walker was my third build, right after the Advanced Tie fighter. My first attempt at the Tie fighter failed. That seems so long ago (I just started number 147). I have learned since then, both about building these models and making videos. I have another AT-AT walker to build because I want to redo the video, but I have yet to get around to it. Thanks for watching.

    Gorilla Glue - White and Original are great adhesives for these. White is a little more visible but dries much faster than original. Neither is as fast as super glue, but they adhere to the shiny metal so much better than super glue.

    "There is no such think as absolutes" , is one of my favorite sayings it was nice to hear you use it, I don't hear it very often . I am planning on building the Wright Brothers Plane tonight, I don't see it in your builds have you done it yet ?

    Brad, give some thought to body piercing tapers I found at a local body piercing shop that I used on the P-51D Mustang "Sweet Arlene" model. Just my 2 cents worth of advice.

    Hi i was just wondering where do you get those black tweezers from and most of your other tools, thanks you are amazing with those builds

    • @animateorange
      @animateorange  Před 5 lety

      The black tweezers are Pixnor Precision tweezers from Amazon. There are about 7 tweezers in a set, I only use 3. Other tools like the pliers are from different hobby stores. I also have an array to 3d printed tools that I designed and printed myself. I sell some on my Etsy store and need to update my inventory.

    • @animateorange

    DO NOT buy the 'Metal Earth' brand 3 piece tool kit. Price equals quality and that should give you the biggest hint at what you are going to get. In my set, the nippers didn't even meet at the very end, so they were never going to achieve a clean cut. The long-nose pliers were badly forged and finished unevenly and the bullnose pliers never gripped at the very end. Instead, I use a good quality pair of plastic modelling sprue cutter nippers with a very fine point and they are perfect. For my plier selection, I use a set of Kinchrome miniature pliers. I have done over a dozen kits so far with no issues.
