This Font Could Bring Down The Pakistani Prime Minister

- The humble font Calibri is now at the center of a Pakistani political scandal.
It all started with last year’s release of the Panama Papers, which identified three children of the Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as owning undeclared offshore companies and assets, including London real estate.
The Pakistani Supreme Court has ordered an investigation into the matter. One of the Prime Minister’s children, Maryam Nawaz, attempted to clear her name by submitting a document which says she doesn’t actually own anything, and that she’s just a trustee. The document’s dated 2006, and typed in the Calibri font.
The only problem is that, according to the court-appointed investigation, is that Calibri was commercially released in 2007, leading them to conclude the documents were forged.
Supporters of the Sharif family argued online the font was actually available in an early beta of Windows Vista in 2004, and the deluge of back and forth editing on Calibri's Wikipedia page led to it being locked down, and birthing what Pakistani social media is calling "Fontgate."

Vice's delay in posting this content for the CZcams audience makes them look like they are really late at reporting this. I think this is an issue of their seasons styled reporting which first releases on HBO in episodic format and then on CZcams. By the time it seen by the general public the issue being reported has already changed. For instance there has already been an election and a new prime minister appointed, Needless to say this a few months old news.
Nawaz Sharif and her daughter Maryam are in jail and his other two sons are on the run in UK.
