This is without a shadow of doubt the most comprehensive (and accurately informative) how to play video out there for HeroQuest. I think becauee it cuts no corners and explains all those little things a new player learning the game needs to know (example, the throwing dagger is an item you buy or find.. not an intirinsic piece of starting equipment). All delivered in your usual fun, immersive, indomitable style.
I played HQ obsessively back in the day. Just learned about this new version -- great video. like a trip down memory lane.
Excited to hear there's an app coming too.

I never had the Advanced HeroQuest. Have heard a lot of negative things about it. What did you think of it?
I do hope they reissue Advanced as well with some updates. More plastic terrain, new monsters, new classes.
I would back that.
I've been watching this video for at least two or three times my version of heroes quest is coming in today and I can't wait to play with the kids I already had downloaded the app as well

You can substitute miniatures? Never! Stop everything and buy and paint more miniatures like a real hero

I'm so glad that you manage to mention at 11:50 if furniture does block LOS or not, I was trying to find that out everywhere but no one could know it or never mentioned it. But is LOS blocked even with small furniture like treasure chests (imagine something like a gargoyle behind a chest...)?
P.S.: The room must be monster free when searching for not only traps but also secret doors and treasures.

i think the heros start on the stairs not aroiund it but i only plied once yesterday and failed the first quest lol
Great vid! Just got back into the game. Haven’t played since I was like 14 lol I have a question about buying equipment. Is the equipment bought only for that quest & must be returned after that specific quest? Or does it roll over to the next quest?

Gear, equipment, weapons, etc.
Anything you have/get/find etc is yours! Unless a text specifically says something is one-shot or location-tied you have it until you get rid of it 😃

I need to ask , thoughts on duel wielding weapons . Really not explained in the rule book, ( so going from the top of my head) Lets say barbarian with attack if 3 die finds a staff weapon that will raise attack die x 2 so he then rolls 5 attack die???, or lets say elf starts with attack of 2 but finds staff then roll 4 die for attack? ( rest of the quests) if no what do u do with found weapons?
I believe that since some cards, such as the Staff, specifically state that a shield may not be used when using a Staff is because the staff, to be used properly, needs to be a two-handed weapon.
I also believe the rules do not address duel wielding because it is not in the rules. It is not part of the game.
It would therefor have to be home-ruled by each gaming group.
I think the original Advanded HeroQuest may have added a duel weapon system to their rules.
If so, perhaps an upcoming expansion might have a ruling on it.

Weapon stats don't stack. Broadsword (3) + Staff (1) does not equal 4 combat dice. You use either one or the other. You can duel wield a Crossbow and a Broadsword and switch between the two over the course of your turns though.
We have house rules where you can sell found weapons that are not wanted back to the armory for half the worth in gold.
But I have to say there are a couple of things: 1) if a wizard/elf reaches 0 but they already did an action in their turn they CANNOT cast a spell to heal (it would be a second action), they must only use a potion. But I wonder if I can cast a spell when a monster kills me... 2) the colour issue, the rulebook doesn't clear if when I run out of minis the substitute mini I pick actually proxy the monster I should put on the board, it just says to pick a mini of the same colour: are you sure it proxys the other mini?
Question. The rule book seems to imply that each character can search for treasure in EACH room... or am I misunderstanding that? I would have thought it should only be one treasure search per room - period. Which rule interpretation is the correct one? Thank you!

I have been under the impression that each hero can make 1 treasure search per room. I do not always do this myself as I never want to push my luck too much. A fair amount of traps and wandering monsters can be drawn from the treasure deck and it will nickle and dime your health to death.

I think I might be at about a 50 - 50 as to some rooms I search, some I don't.
I also feel the more/better gear you get/advance into the less need you have to search for treasure (or even but gear anymore).
Now, with that said there are some goals you do need to search for so be careful.
So when a player finds a trap, does the GM place the token at that time to mark the spot?
Yes, when playing with a GM the traps are not put out until either sprung or the party searches for traps. There is a double-sided token with one side for Zargon and the other side for Mentor. Use the Zargon side to show where a trap is when the search for traps to show the party where the trap is.
If they stumble into thr trap the trap isn't revealed until they stumble upon it.
Zargins minions cannot move until activated by player discovery
Correct.
Also, generally speaking, Zargon has no minions on the board until discovered by the players.

why does the dwarf not start with an axe to match the model and to further differ it
I think the design for all the miniatures is for pure aesthetics.
The axe is a more powerful weapon than the short sword so is an accomplishment to get. Gearing up is as close to leveling up as this game gets so it is important to start with the lower gear.
